I'm confused. Why exactly was it even a joke? It wasn't framed as a joke. There's no punch line or twist. And he immediately regretted expressing it. Unless my English comprehension is not sufficiently bad enough to understand why it's even a joke in the first place calling it a joke is just an excuse for a crude comment. The only reason people are saying it is a joke is because the person he was talking with didn't take it seriously either, but stephano evidently did while he expressed it.
