We 'Get It!' This week the Rundown brings the community, what could be, the most intense Rundown to date. The current champion, Sleep, could be the first player, besides viOLet, to win back to back Rundowns. For Sleep to reach the finals though he will need to defeat some very hefty skill. Newcomers Demon, from the Good Gaming Team, epidemic's boyo and Aurora from Team Legion will get their first taste of the Rundown. Last week's runner up, enDerr and STX from it's Gosu will also have something to say about a Sleep repeat. This event is not an 'experiment' and the results will not be leaked! The Rundown is LIVE and packed full of more skill in an 8 player bracket then any other online event. Join us this Thursday night for all of the action!

+ Show Spoiler [Project Statement] +
The Cyber Sports Network (CSN) is proud to bring the SC2 community a fresh look at StarCraft II competition. The "Rundown" is a weekly eight (8) person, single elimination invitational Cup with commentary by Garrett "Gwin" Perchel.

As always, the Rundown is FREE to watch and we honor the MLG Gold and Silver Memberships. If you currently have either of the MLG memberships, you are welcome to join the chat live and for free on stream. Silver members must chat in 'slow mode' for the first 30 minutes, while Gold Members may use all of the Twitch features.

  • Rundown #12 - Thursday February 23, 2012
  • Event Page and Brackets
  • Pregame Show starts at 00:00 GMT (+00:00)
  • Matches start at 00:30 GMT (+00:00)

Due to CSN not charging $50 to watch, we must warn you that we will be running ads on our stream. We may also need to cap the number of viewers this week to 1000. We hope this is not an inconvenience to the community.

Each week Gwin provides the Nerd Ballers of the StarCraft II community with indepth nerd analysis and a live camera feed to show off his tailored suit jacket.
Garrett "Gwin" Prechel is a relative newcomer to the esports scene. A self proclamed "Nerd" (with a capital N) Garrett brings the RTS knowledge as a skilled player of both Brood War and Starcraft II. Also in E-Sports, Garrett acts as the principle caster for Check Six Gaming's Starcraft II Division. Outside of E-Sports, Garrett works as a freelance voice actor and singer for film and TV.

Team Statistics will be completely automated following this week's Rundown and will be updated ASAP. Due to not being able to charge for viewers, we have been forced to layoff 2 1/2 staff members.

I actually have a serious question for the community. I am very interested to find out what the communities thoughts are on how we can increase viewership of this event. I want to make it clear though.. this event and CSN is not concerned about having 10k viewers and making a few pennies from it. Our business model to be sustainable will take time an we understand this. We know the importance of building relationships with communities, players and teams.

However, as packed with skill as this event is.. it fails to reach the masses. There is no other NA weekly or daily event with as much skilled packed into one bracket. I love the playhem stuff.. but this is a different kind of event. I understand that many of these players are under exposed and do not have a huge fan base.. but this is the idea of the Rundown. The thought of helping teams and players grow and get the exposure they deserve is completely in line with how CSN sees growing eSports (see our Training Camp for viOLet ) There is a reason why certain teams will not send their players to the Rundown.. losing to 'scrubs' as they are called at times.. is embarrassing and ruins their twitter following.

So.. what sort of things can we do for the Rundown that will help increase the awareness and get more viewers? There are a lot of people on these forums with very good insight into the community and who have great ideas!

If you would rather message me personally with your thoughts on the event.. please do. I am all for constructive criticism.

I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

Be more selective with your players, I have yet to hear of these players and so it doesn't sound super appealing. maybe have some sort of public selection of players so we can be more involved.

Interview the winning player or make a highlight video for each rundown.

I think the best way to connect the players with the community is to show people how good these players really are. Make it known that these guys competing in your events have the potential to become one of the world class top players someday.

Thank you very much for the feedback. We have interviewed the winners and losers and usually have an interview with a team manager and player prior to the event.

As for not knowing the players.. I think that falls on the community a bit more. We are trying to get these players the exposure they deserve... but amid the glitz, drinking on stream, twitter followers and T-shirt sales.. it is difficult to get known in this community. My biggest gripe with the direction of things now.. although I do see some good things happening (see IEM World Championships).. is that for most of the last 6 months.. its been all about popularity. Here is an event in which it's about unseen skill. Two weeks ago, TheMista ran the tables of the event and beat some more 'popular (and perceived to be better skilled) players on his way to the Championship. I love catZ.. and he is very popular and always is supportive of our efforts.. but he is 0-2 with no maps won in the his 2 rundown appearances.. and that is against players that 'no one has heard of'.

What SC2 needs more then anything is a true structure for competition. Enough of the media blitz, twitter pimping and T-shirt sales.. lets put structure in place to create real growth from the grass roots. As the FXOboss pointed out in his thread regarding the $$ earned from the media side of things.. it's just not there. There needs to be a structure in place to build on and a model that is sustainable.

Sorry.. rambling now.. great stuff and thank you all for the support!

I will contact you both!
Rance is pretty much way too busy now .. so we are stuck with GWIN! Good thing though.. we kinda like the guy! We are continuing to tweak and update the show each week and plan on having a Rundown World Cup soon.. but I will save the details on that for later!

No reason this event should have less than half a thousand viewers.

Rundown has always been the "vIOlet beat up everyone" show, which is a feature but also a curse. Unless there're one serious contender each week, the lack of uncertainty do make the result less interesting.

A lineup similar to this week - two contenders, two lesser but known pros, and four relatively unknown but strong players - seems like a nice balance between your objective of showcasing new talent and viewers' preference to known figures.
Thank God and gunrun.
