Assigning picks has had reasonable success in other PYP games, however this game will be different. The high number of mafia and them being split into factions means that if we assign the top 5 roles they will almost certainly be killed off pretty quickly. Regardless of who gets Inventor, Assassin etc, there will be at least 2 mafia factions looking to kill them off. If there are a lot of mafia in the the top 5 this works out in our favour, but otherwise it just means that powerful townies die at the start. Something worth thinking about at least.

I have another idea, haven't really thought it through completely but I'd like to hear some feedback on it. In my head it works

If we all take pro-town roles that mafia have no interest in, and let mafia juke it out for the anti-town ones. They haven little/no incentive for taking the pro-town roles as said above, as its too much of a disadvantage vs their rivals, This will probably end up with a much higher chance of mafia overlapping on picks and means that we'll have a much higher amount of good town roles in the game.

Variant: We make out a full list of picks and leave all the anti-town roles out of it. If mafia want to take one of them, they have to lie about their pick which we may be able to pick up on later. This relies on everyone cooperating and means that townie's roles will be exposed (mafia can/will lie and pick elsewhere). It makes it a lot easier to catch mafia out however.

Thoughts?

Ideally we want a good scumhunter as Mayor. Don't forget that even if that person is mafia, they will help by hunting down rival mafia members. Of course this is a worst case scenario and having a town mayor is much more preferable.

As of now, I don't feel comfortable voting for someone high on the draft list, as having a mafia with a powerful role as mayor is a lot worse than having a vanilla mafia as mayor.

As such, I'm putting my vote on Radfield for now.

Honestly I find it weird that at 3 of my strongest scum reads are voting him right now. Either Radfield is a townie and some scum are tying themselves to him, or he's scum and they're trying to get him into office.

I have no idea why kenpachi is voting him though. Kenpachi's just weird I guess.

Has greymist even PMed me?

I've played games with Radfield before and I know he's a good scumhunter. I know mig is good too, however I haven't been impressed with mig's posts so far. He seems to be out of it a bit. On top of this Radfield is the only mayoral candidate who took the initiative and PMed me. That was enough to give him my vote.

I haven't a clue who greymist is and his entire campaign is 'Everyone else running is bad lolz' I know you think radfield is scummy but you honestly think he's a better candidate than mig? As far as I can tell he's just some nobody so no way am I voting for him. Never seen him play a game before so why should I vote for him. He has done nothing to convinve me of anything.

It seems like a good way to relieve suspicion on himself; as scum that's a great way to get yourself into office.

I also don't doubt that Radfield is good at scum seeing as he completely convinced sandroba he was town in LoTR through PMs.

Electing Radfield into office is basically a gamble. We gamble that he's town and he potentially gets protection, or that he's scum and so we get him off the candidacy list. I don't think we can be sure of Radfield's alignment this early in the game and so we should go with the two candidates we CAN be sure of, GreYMisT and Mig.

Mig is really transparent and obvious town, GreYMisT is a relatively new player so I'd find it extraordinarily unlikely he's scum based on the things he's said and done both in thread and in PM.

This is a much better post. You should have started with this. However:

-I don't find it suspicious, I expected Radfield to run for mayor no matter what.

-I disagree that mig is really transparent, I'm pretty suspicious of his play so far. I would expect him to be scum much more than radfield.

-Thats not enough for me to elect greymist. I'm not going to go by your word that in PMs he's super town. Similarly his posts in thread haven't done enough to convince me to vote for a newbie.

Wow I thought I would have a load to read up on when I got back but today has been really quiet. I'm surprised no one has called for a vig shot on Foolishness, he's very obviously scum at this point especially as Node flipped scum. The rest of the people trying to get greymist elected should be checked, especially WBG.

Never said he wasn't. Node and Foolishness were hardcore lurky and supported his campaign when they should know better, thats why they are scum. I even said it to you on IRC before Node flipped.

I haven't played with WBG so I before won't say he's scum for certain, but he definitely deserves a check, as does anyone who wanted greymist elected.
