Palantir Technologies is hosting its Second Annual King of Palantir StarCraft II Tournament.
When? August 20th, 2011 from Noon until 9pm Pacific
Where? Palantir's Corporate offices in New York City, Palo Alto California, and McLean Virginia
How much? This event is completely Free to watch or participate in! Heck, we'll even have free food available as well.
Background Last year Palantir Technologies hosted an internal tournament, the first King of Palantir Tournament. This year, we've made things a bit more awesome by opening up a limited number of non-employee player slots at each of our offices (5 in NYC, 10 in VA, and 20 in CA). Not only that, but we've managed to convince Day[9] and Spanishiwa to come and commentate from our Palo Alto office! Spanishiwa has also agreed to play a showmatch against a yet-unnamed opponent.
Interested in playing or specating? Awesome! Head over to the King of Palantir website for more information and to register. Or head straight to our Eventbrite page. Registration closes August 13th!
Other information you might care about Some important things to note. This is a BYOC event. We will be providing monitors, since I know those are a pain to lug around and a bit fragile. Also, there is no prize money for this. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, as well as some general SWAG - but dont go expecting a big purse
If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Update: We have confirmed that the always-awesome Spanishiwa will also be attending the event. He will be either playing a showmatch, co-commentating with Day[9], or both! I will update the thread once we've got that settled.
|
Sounds cool! Anything Day[9] commentates usually draws plenty of attention, and the same can be said for Spanishiwa. It will be interesting to hear Spanishiwa commentate, he has an interesting view of the game and seems to "think outside of the box" compared to most high level players, and he seems to be a pretty well spoken guy as well.
Good luck with your event, I'm sure it will be awesome!

Thanks, I'm really hoping so as well. I just wanted to emphasize (since I'm not sure that I mentioned it above) that this event is completely FREE to watch or participate in.
I also really want to encourage folks around DC and NYC to sign up to play or come watch. We have a pretty good crowd coming to the Palo Alto office and I dont want our other offices to feel too left out
Also updated the first post to mention that there will be free food/drinks available as well

Apologies for 2 replies in one day, but I did think it was worth it to announce that Spanishiwa is going to co-cast/commentate the event, as well as play a showmatch!

Could you explain this a little more? I'm not sure I understand, the way I read it is there are 5 player slots in NYC, 10 from VA and 20 from CA? Anyone from TL would be a non employee obviously...
I can point a whole bunch of people to the VA office for this event thats for sure. :D
|
Absolutely. We can support up to 5 non-Palantir players in NYC, up to 10 non-Palantir players in VA, and up to 20 in California. Those limitations are just based on the office sizes and the number of folks we'll have available to help run things.
Does that make more sense?
I believe there are currently all 10 slots still open in VA - NYC is down to 2, and I think California still has like 16 free.
|
I will have to come and watch I think. It will be nice to have an event in Virginia for once (nothing ever happens in VA )
|
that's fantastic. If you are going to come watch, please be sure to register on the eventbrite page, otherwise security probably wont let you in lol.
|
Hmm, I'm flying down on the 20th, not sure if I'll be able to make it to play by 12 but maybe I'll stop by and spectate.
|
I've gotten some PM's with questions, so I thought I would toss out the questions/answers here so they can help more people:
Can I bring my own monitor? This is a BYOC event, however, since monitors are somewhat fragile, we will be providing them. Having said that, we wont stop you from bringing your own, under the caveat that we are NOT responsible for any loss/damage/whatever.
Will the event be streamed live? NO - sorry guys, we have run into some issues of a technical nature, and are not going to be able to stream this event. I'm sorry!
|
One less slot in VA now. I'll probably get knocked out first round, but I don't really care haha. The first thing about gaming is for the fun, right?
|
Awesome, glad to see someone coming out to our VA office!
Dont forget, registration ends on the 13th - this coming Saturday! All of the gamer slots for NYC have closed, but we still have plenty open in Palo Alto and McLean.
Another question that people have asked is if there are any league requirements. The answer to that is "NO" - we have some folks playing who are, quite literally, still in the Practice League, and we have a few Masters League players signed up as well. All are welcome!

Those are the guys who will get me....

Hey guys, I'm really sorry, but I'm afraid I have to announce that we wont be able to stream the event live. Obviously we all really wanted to do it, but there are some technical issues involved that we just arent going to be able to work out prior to the event.
Having said that, still please feel free to come out in person!
|
Man that's a bummer. Is Day[9] or Spanishiwa maybe going to go through the replays?
|
We're going to rig something up through our internal VTC system, so if you're in one of our offices you'll still be able to watch everything
|
open up more slots for the NYC tournament o_o
|
Sorry Buffalo, registration closed Saturday. The NYC office, being our smallest office, also had the fewest available player slots. Hopefully we'll be able to do another one of these in the not-too-distant future though, and hopefully with more slots as well
registration is still open in all offices for spectators, I should add.
|
Signed up for the CA one as a competitor : ) Will Day9 and / or spanishiwa still be coming?
