I seen This topic posted on other forums and see people write about it. I was woundering what you guys had to say about it. So Will we see ProGameing Grow to the LvL it has in korea anywhere in world? I personal I Love watching it and hope it dose . I can see it happening just cuss there money to be made in it. Companys target teens to young adults the most dont they? Well that 90% of the what, 1 million Bw players? Its fun to watch So if it gets on T.V then i think Boxer will be whereing Nikes as They show him clicking away But im a newb who cant spell what do i know .

I think pro-gaming here will be just as big as it's in Korea, eventually. By that time pro-gaming in Korea will as big as football (the european/real version) is now.

the only real question is how long this will take.

I hope in my lifetime. Pro-gaming is getting bigger, but it is going very slowly. I remember N64 tourneys, and USA national video gaming team, from 10 years ago. You could win a few hundred $. I don't think much progress has been made from those days, at least in the USA.

It will take TV coverage, or some uber-game like BW in Korea, that most kids play, for it to move out of niche, eccentric, hobby status.

I imagine pro gaming will take off in Europe, but as for the USA, it's highly unlikely. Gaming in general is looked upon pretty poorly in the states... you can turn on the TV and watch some talk show host lambasting video games; saying they turn children into violent criminals. If any group decides to broadcast games, even midly violent ones parent groups would total freak out and put pressure on the sponsors, driving them away, causing the league to shut down (no sponsors = no funds = no league).

As for most gamers in the states, they're nearly all casual gamers, they're not terribly in tune with "hardcore" gamers let alone anyone who would be a "Pro" gamer. So even if this league does get off its feet I don't really see too many people making any sort of connection with the players in the league.

Pro gaming just doesn't (and wont) fit into American culture, so my advice would be to save your $$$ for something else, angel .

hey take it easy guys... I'm on your side! I'd LOVE pro gaming to take off in the US, but realistically I just don't see it happening .

Anyone is welcome to prove me wrong . Who knows, maybe in a few years attitudes here will change?

he's just kdding with you

I think you're right about America not having the attitude for pro-gaming as it is now, but I think that will change slowly (slower than Europe). I believe it's really just a matter of time.

america is to caught up in football(fake version), and how it defines competition. sports skillz and competition are easier to see and get involved in then in gaming. sports is also woven into the economy and education in america. big sports teams bring in millions for networks/cities. there is money in gamin, but not millions upon millions. the money from sports also supports many big ten schools. the only reason i think this is important, is becuase i think a gaming industry would cut into the prophets(not just monetary) of the sports industry. most people would want to stop this, the only people that would not are hard core gamers, and we just dont got the numbers;[

9 years after,
Progaming indeed became bigger outside Korea, but SC2, not BW.
And as a result, BW is dying, some say is getting killed.
