MSL Group Selection Raw Notes

Kim Dong Jun is back with the MSL team after a long hiatus.

He left on slightly contentious terms before, but it looks like he's taken his rightful place on the casting roster again. He also left before because of military service.

Kim Chul-min, Lee Seung Won, Kim Dong-jun together again, it's a reunion!



The standard MSL Steal-draft, for five years straight. Compared to OGN, they're not afraid to stick to a good thing,.
Though you could argue, OGN has always been changing it up to find something that's as good as MBCGame, in their own way.

First, the top 16 players are seeded into the bracket, two per group. Seeds 8-1 are immovable.
Seeded players 32-17 put themselves anywhere on the bracket.

Players seeded 16-9 can either change their own position, or switch their immediate opponent.

Players seeded 8-3 can make one player swap ANYWHERE in the bracket.

Runner up from last season can make two changes anywhere in the bracket.

Winner from last season can make three changes anywhere in the bracket.

Ceremony awards for players.

1st: 500,000 won gift certificate to ABC Mart.
2nd: 200,000 won gift certificate to ABC Mart + Mp3 player
3rd: 100,00 won gift cert + mini pmp

Best taunts: 300,000 won gift

Most suffering: 200,000 won gift

Talk king: 500,000 won gift

+ random award to best cheerful in the crowd, and random pick to anyone who tweets at them.


As a contrived mechanism to make it look like players have any sort of animosity towards each other, there's a "focus player" policy. Seed players 1 through 8 can designate a player they are focused on and that player wears a armband with the seed players's name on it. It doesn't have any effect on the actual on the group selection -_-.

Anyway, player entrances. Divided between guys who wouldn't humiliate themselves for a chance at prize money, and shameless guys.

Anyway, some old classic clips played, including Midas in a bear suit, which no one will ever beat. So what's the point of even trying

Picked some mellow k-pop piano shit that led into rap. Bore. In a drama, he'll be a "Boys Before Flowers" type of millionaire (T/N: What does 재벌2세 really mean?), and his female character will be Kim Ha Neul.

Some very mellow kpop ballad with piano and violin. They're asking some of the players "if you could play a character in a k-drama, what would you be, and who would be the female lead" In a drama, he would like to be a student and his female character would be Song Ji Eun from Secret.

#4: Jaedong
Some trendy k-pop track with a danceable beat. Doesn't do anything. He does the politician ceremony where you bow and wave.

#5: Kal
Mellow kpop ballad backed rap by epik high. Does nothing. In a drama, he would be a student, and his female character would be Byun Suh Eun (T/N: Who the heck is she? I couldn't find her with google search).

#6: Snow
Comes out to eye of the tiger, wearing a kangaroo suit and boxing gloves. Fist bumps all the casters on the waty to the stage. Midas was still better imo, because it contrasted better than his character. Roger Jr. from Tekken!

Came out to some metal sounding stuff, the most hardcore music so far.

#8: Calm
Comes out to Pink's U+Ur hand, the OP music from when he won his MSL. In a drama, he would be a Harvard student who studies well, and his female character would be Kim Tae Hee.

#9: Bisu
Comes out wearing "focus armbands" from Jaedong and Calm on his left and right arms. Comes out to some rock-ish music, which I imagine is from one of his multiple MSL wins. In a drama, he would be a millionaire, and his female character would be RuBy, which makes the commentators go WTF and laugh. I think his music is from GomTV MSL Season 2, but there's no link.

#10: Free
Comes out to some quiet music box intro k-pop ballad (IU). Lamest, lamest song. In a drama, he would like to be a football/soccer player, and his female character would be Kim Sarang.

#11: Flash
Generic k-pop. Random inlay screen with Jaedong. Normal Jaedong looks like he's angry about something. His song is from this show called "I'm a singer" which is basically a show in which different singers will come on stage and sing different songs, or something like that. In a drama, he would like to be a soccer player, and Suh Woo would be his female character.

#12: Sea
Comes out wearing Great and Zero's focus armbands. Only 2nd guy coming out to some foreign rockish song. The song is one of the theme songs for the MSL, I think.

#13: Light
He didn't even ask for specific music, allowed the director to pick any rock song. In a drama, he would be a billionaire, and his female character would be Kim Sarang (mentioned before),

#14: Fantasy
Has Hydra's armband. Some K-drama opening song. In a drama, he would be the CEO of a department store, and his female character would be Ha Ji Won.

A military marching song. Has Stork's focus armband. Military service prevents him from doing anything outside a respectful salute, but he's holding back a smirk for sure. In a drama, he would be a guy who was tragically separated from his female character Shin Min Ah. However there would be a happy ending.

#16: Ruby
A different military song. Announcers "FREE FBH!!" He chose his song because he was a cool guy, but Bisu already chose him to be his female character (lololol). In a drama, he would be a solitary genius in a particular area, and he would rule over his solitary domain, or something.

A muse song. At this point I'm sad we'll never hear the Pretender again , For some reason players start to be interviewed on the mic after their intro. In a drama, he would be a secret service agent, and his female character would be the enemy agent.

"I lost to Stork a lot in the past, and I think it would be good to play a Protoss, and he's a good player." His statement win for being totally illogical.

#18: Leta - Group C, vs Zero
Kung fu fighting. Wearing yellow bruce lee tracksuit, does some mock kung-fu moves, and does a backflip. Yay? His bulge is ridiculously noticable in his tight tracksuit, and he's pretty aware as he keeps tugging at his clothes to hide it. He used to do a bit of aikido, and in a drama he would be a rich progamer (not very creative there, eh).

"I picked Zero because I'm kinda good against him, and I think I'll win if I face him. Games are fun when I play against Zero."

#19: Hyuk - Group E, vs Free.
Same song that Fantasy picked, I wonder if they told each other beforehand. Dream high OST again.

"I wanted to go against Snow, but Flash was on the other side of the bracket.., so I was afraid."
So non-chalant about saying he was afraid of Flash. Very matter of fact and unemotional.

#20: Hero - Group G, vs Snow Song is from same place as Flash's song. In a drama, he would be Oscar from Secret Garden, and his female character would be Lee Min Jung

#21: Roro - Group F, vs Calm
Appears playing a an accoustic guitar, then smashes it on the floor. Also, he's wearing a skirt. I don't get it He did the Big Bang Tonight move where GD smashes the guitar on the floor, but did not intend to hit the guitar that hard on the floor. In a drama, he would be a rich guy.

"Wanted to play ZvZ.... I didn't really prepare for this so that's about it."

Wearing Snow's Focus band. Mellow as hell song again. In a drama he would be a businessman and have a workplace romance with Han Ji Min (ㅋ).

"Well, Snow was in the group so i went there.... I'm sure Snow will take me out of the group though." WHAT IS THIS LOGIC?

Omg, same song as Hyuk and Fantasy. "STX Coach Kim Eun Dong" as his answer for what his character in a K-drama would be. His theme song is Dream High OST, again, and his female character would be Shin Se Kyung.

#24: Shine - Group B, vs FBH
Big Bang Song. They throw the most obv bait question towards him to make him say he'd liek to play bisu. In a drama, he would be a businessman and his female character would be Lee Min Jung (see Hero for picture).

"I wanted to play Great because he plays entertaining ZvZ, but the spot next to him was already taken. If you can spare your seed right, I'd like to play a game against you."

#25: Really - Group H, vs Kal
K-punk rock classic by Crying Nut. The oldest song chosen, I think. He chose the song because Zero is called a black horse in Woongjin house for whatever reason. In a drama, he would like to be a student, and his female character would be Kim Min Jung.

Wants to play vs Great. They've had a war of wards in interviews in the past... "He'd be easy."

Bad k-idol shit. In a drama, he would be a prosecutor, and his female character would be Kang Min Kyung from group Davichi.

His goal was to "Finish ahead of Zero."

Comes hobbling out, looking so drunk. Drinking a bottle of rice wine (milk prolly). Acts drunk during his takl too. Wearing some red makeup to make himself look drink.

"Ugh.. it was so hard to get here! You know I got knocked out 0-2 last tiem right? Anyway, let's see who made it this time..." *opens list of players* "The hell, Taekbaengleessang. You guys are all still here? HOW HAS NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN A YEAR?" "God, my head.... Hey, 'taek' of Taekbaengleessang. You with the big nose! If you had played me this time around, it woulda been in the final match! You think of yourself as lucky. Hey, this time, I'm not gonna go out 0-2. Watch out, let's have a good fight." "VICTORY!!!!!"

Does a K-girl band dance to finish it off, and secure his 500,000 won. Twinkle Twinkle by Girl's Day again. The girl fan holding a Hyun sign was very embarrassed that day.

#28: Han - Group D, vs Light
Has Kal's focus band. J-lo song for some reason o_O. In a drama, he would be a prosecutor.

"I think might beat him if it's on air."

#29: Reality - Group D, vs Jaedong
The worst k-pop song ever. One royal road possibility. Apparently he was the player's pick for player to most look out for. In a drama, he would be a free-living person, and his female character would be Shin Min Ah (See FBH for photo).

Boring music yo. Another royal roader possibility. In drama, he would be King Sukjong from drama "Dong Yi", and his female character would be Han Hyo Joo.

MBC: Right, one would have to be missing from the group.
Sea: Yeah, so when I was talking with my teammates, I just thought it would be great as long as I'm not the one guy stuck with them.

MBC: There are a lot of champions in this MSL, does it feel different from other MSLs.

Ggaemo: I wanted to face Jaedong, but it's not bad facing Bisu either. I like ZvP, and I think I have to beat Bisu if I want to be able to beat the best Protoss players.

Sea: I got so much stress doing that ceremony before. I think I lost 10 games in a row after that.
Hyun: After contemplating whether to shave eyebrow or armpit, he decided to cut his hair. After seeing that, I realized that what he did was not something a human should do, and should just focus on practice.

Great: So you know, if you type my name in a search engine, you get Cha Myung Hwan, 2nd place MSL. But if you type Really, you don't get any results.

FBH: Eventually you need to go to the military, so don't hesitate to talk to me for advice and counseling. There's no way to avoid military service in Korea


Bisu: If I do a big ceremony, it's going to be aired all the time on TV. I'm embarrassed about that, so I try to avoid doing it most of the time

Ruby: No not really. All he knows how to do is to play greedy, and is a bit lacking in brains... I was so angry when I lost to Han on Empire of the Sun lately, I couldn't even sleep. I wanted to play againts him so badly, so I'll send him off with this opportunity.
Han: Just one thing. Ruby went to the army because of me! Just kidding...
Ruby: Han's grown a lot, and I don't mean his head. I'll take this this opportunity to bring Han into Air Force Ace.

Jaedong: Switches Ruby was GGaemo. Han vs Ggaemo <--> Ruby vs Soulkey

Ggaemo: I wanted to play against Jaedong, but Han was being so insolent to my superior Ruby. I will swap places with Ruby. I will cleanly seperate Han's flesh from his bones. Simply put, he will be owned.
Ruby: The military system is indeed very good. I think everyone should come experience it.

Zero says his teammates want him to help them out, but he thinks it's fine to just prevent teamkills. (Light has suddenly changed seats towards the MBCGame bench).

Really expresses fear about what Great might do to him, so he's just gonna refrain from challenging him.

Zero says there isn't much to change, so he's gonna pass his right to Sea.

Fantasy on saying Soulkey is harder than Zero. "Soulkey still plays with heart." Free agrees that Soulkey is a better player. Really also agrees.

Great: Most players usually dislike having to play against good players in the RO32, and I thought that maybe the good players should have a taste of that. Also, I think it would be a cool point of interest for everyone.

Bisu: We've already played some tough games against each other lately, so I'm tired.... But what can we do about it?

JD: We're fine with it, but the people who run the MSL....

Hyun: "Huh? What's this. You sure this isn't a dream? I think I'm dreaming... Can I get out of here?"

Grape: I don't wanna play here.

Great: "Well I'm gonna get Hyun out of there with my next selection..."

Great: "You know, Sea did say that he would respect someone who put TaekBaengLeeSsang in one group... So I wonder if he'll really respect me if I put him in that group..."

Sea: "I'd respect him... But not if I'm in it."
