(T)Flash: “(Z)Perfective making 3 kills is an even bigger present”

KT Rolster’s Flash was sent out as the first player for the first time in the 10-11 season, but was stopped after making only 1 kill. Before the match started, Flash wasn’t able to keep his promise that he would do an all-kill as a birthday present for Manager Lee Jihoon, but his junior teammate Perfective making 3 kills is proof that KT is getting more and more stronger as a team. Flash, who has been worrying over the state of his wrist since it has not fully recovered yet, said, “I’ll be looking forward to and anticipating a better performance from my teammates in the individual leagues while also doing my best to recover my wrist.”

Q: It’s been a while since the last time you were sent out and got a win.
A: It’s regrettable that I was only able to make 1 kill, but even though I lost, since our team won in the end, I’m happy about it. I always have the basic mindset of making 2 or 3 kills, so when I lost, I was anxious about what to do if our team lost, but by seeing (Z)Perfective get sent out after me, make 3 kills, and earning our team victory, I was also happy by his performance.

Q: Since it has been a while since the last time you were sent out, it seems disappointing that you were only able to do 1 kill.
A: Since it was already arranged for me to be sent out as the first player in today’s match last week, I prepared hard for it. But (Z)Calm played too well, so I lost. If another opportunity comes next time, then I want to take on the challenge of getting an all-kill again. Truthfully speaking, I told my teammates today that my games didn’t go well. The 1st set didn’t go the way I liked it, but in the 2nd set my hands were loose and moved smoothly. But I lost to my opponent’s mind games, so it was too late to recover from that. I completely lost to his mind games. [T/N: Braaain Zerrrrrrrrrrrrrg~]

Q: It seems that in practice, you didn’t know what appropriate strategy to go out with.
A: I didn’t predict correctly which player would be sent out on “Benzene”. I thought that (P)Kal would definitely come out on there, so I practiced for that. I excluded the possibility of a TvZ and used a build I had prepared before in the past. Even though I didn’t practice for TvZ, I had a past strategy that I had prepared up my sleeve so I was boosted by confidence, but in the end, I lost.

Q: Even though you lost, KT won.
A: After seeing that the players who regularly don’t get fielded out have been continuously rising, it gives us hope that our team will also do well in Rounds 5 and 6 and really encourages us. Now we don’t even have only a 1 win difference with SK Telecom in 1st place. After making continuous wins, I want to defeat SK Telecom again at Gwangahnri in the finals. [T/N: Hahaha Flash, you have a great sense of humor~ Such a funny player with lots of personality!]

Q: Since your teammates are doing well recently, there haven’t been many chances for you to be sent out. We’re seeing a similar pace with (Z)Jaedong now.
A: Recently I’m focusing on the recovery of my wrist. Since it’s continuously growing worse, I’m fussing a lot over it. I have to make a complete recovery when the next individual leagues come, so I’m doing my best to recover. Truthfully speaking though, I haven’t really been able to watch Hwaseung’s matches. Hwaseung has also rose to 2nd place in Winners’ League. [T/N: Remember, this interview was taken before Hwaseung’s match yesterday vs. Woongjin. Hwaseung is currently in 3rd place now.] We were both at the bottom of the rankings, so I was cheering for them to rise again, but if they start to catch up with us, then I want to tell them that our team is going to win it all in the end (laughs). We have a match with Hwaseung next week, so I want to win without fail and show the fans that our team is the stronger team. [T/N: Ohohoho, things just heated up now!! You can always count on Flash to spice things up!]

Q: How are you treating your wrist nowadays?
A: I’ve been going to a traditional medicine clinic and have been doing hot compressions on it. Since there haven’t been any huge improvements or progress, the manager is also worrying a lot. It’s not a hindrance to me when I practice, but when the individual leagues start again, I’m worried about the state of it. That’s why it’s a relief to me that I haven’t been sent recently so that I could take a little break from our matches, so I’m thankful to my teammates that they’ve been doing well. I have a lot of worries about the second half of Proleague though. My wrist does hurt, but I have confidence that I’ll continue to do well, and since my teammates are doing great as well, there are no big problems.

Q: Any last words you want to say?
A: Today is our manager’s birthday, so I told him that I would do an all-kill as a birthday present for him. But since I made only 1 kill and then lost, it was regrettable, but I think that (Z)Perfective’s performance was a great present to our manager. I haven’t been able to be sent out that often lately, and seeing that I was only able to make 1 kill today made my fans most likely disappointed, so I will do my best to show an even better performance in the future.

Perfective

You were the backbone of the team with your 3 wins.
I feel like I could fly. The biggest thing I want to say right now is thanks to my teammates. The ecstasy I'm feeling right now can't be put into words.

What was going through your head as you went out to play?
I thought Flash would AK, so when I was picked to play second, I was beyond nervous. As he passed by Coach Kang Doh Gyung, he gave me an encouraging pat on the back, so a lot of my pressure evaporated.

Thoughts on your game against Calm?
To be honest, I had more than enough opportunities to finish him off, but the game dragged on in spite. However, I had calculated that I could win.

Against Frozen, you used an unexpected wave of speedlings to bring down your opponent at lightning speed.
It wasn't actually my own idea; it was a suggestion from the coach. Frozen's response was also within my predictions, so I took the game smoothly.

What about your match point game against Kal?
I certainly intended to bring him down too. To tell the truth, our team's protosses are extremely fierce, and I thought Kal couldn't be much better, so I was confident I could put up a solid fight.

What's your favorite of the three matchups?
I like them all, but I'm most confident in vP. I like the feeling of winning with a wall-in break or a direct attack. [T/N unsure]

Action's on fire right now. Do you envy him?
The team giving me a chance to play shows that they want me to develop my condition. It's not something that can be simply studied. Hoejja's been setting a good example for me, and I've learned a lot from him.

Do you prepare a lot for all your games?
This is just three wins. Come the individual league prelims I'll be working hard for sure, and I hope I can make it out of the prelim stages.

Do you envision yourself starting to accumulate more wins from here on out?
If the coaches have confidence in me, it's a good possibility. As long as I work hard in practice, I'll make superhuman strides of progress..

Anything else?
My parents have been paying close attention to my games, and they've always supported me. I'm very thankful. I also have to especially thank the friends who encouraged me. They are my biggest motivation. In addition, I'll present today's win as a birthday president to our coach. Last but not least, I wish to thank my teammates for practicing with me as well as Coach Kang and Hoejja for mentoring me.

Hoejja's good and has talent, but he just can't show it in televised matches. He's still a good player in practice. If Roo can learn from him, I don't see why he shouldn't.

Sounds like Flash's days as a progamer are numbered since his wrist is still hurting. Really sad to see given how young he is.
