We will be using it as the opening map for all match-ups and rounds. + Show Spoiler + The map pool also includes: Xel'Naga Caverns, Metalopolis, Shakuras Plateau and Jungle Basin in an attempt to use "the most balanced" maps of the current ladder pool.
On request, some boring rules: * Participants who are not checked in before 5:20 PM will be disqualified. Their bracket partner will advance * Disconnects will result in a loss * Replays must be saved and sent to Polatrite after the games * Cheating will result in disqualification and a report sent to Blizzard
Hope to see you there!

Would love to join this, had a go in the last TL open (#6) and got stomped so bad it hurt irl. A tournament for us slightly less then awesome would be fun.

Yep, edited the OP to include that, thanks.

D'oh! Any chance you'll host a gold/plat tourney for the EU server in the future?

If you're looking to use the most balanced maps in the current pool I would strongly recommend not including jungle basin.

The current map pool is: Blistering Sands (2) - Disliked by Terran for mobility/defense issues, disliked by most players for general insecurity and 1-base play Jungle Basin (2) - Disliked by Zerg for having a difficulty 3rd to take Scrap Station (2) - Greatly favoring Zerg with a 100% safe fast expansion (even against proxy cheese) Steppes of War (2) - Disliked by Zerg due to the fact that a tank push doesn't actually require you to even build a factory, jury rigged spare parts can actually provide tank fire on the enemy base without it Xel'Naga Caverns (2) - Balanced! Shakuras Plateau (4) - Slightly favoring Zerg with a 90% safe fast expansion, but overall a solid map Lost Temple (4) - Greatly favoring Terran drop play Metalopolis (4) - Slightly favoring Zerg in 66% of spawn positions Delta Quadrant (4) - I absolutely do not like maps with rotational symmetry and >2 starting locations for tournaments, only for ladder play, as they can provide gross positional advantages
Given the above list, we're including Shakuras and Metalopolis which are widely agreed as slightly favoring (or favoring) Zerg in several spawn positions. We're also including Xel'Naga for being the most widely agreed upon balanced map. In order to balance out the map pool, we need to include a map that slightly disfavors Zerg - Lost Temple, Steppes, and Delta don't fit this bill. Blistering Sands is also considered to favor Zerg by greatly reducing the effectiveness of other race's wall-ins. This leaves only one map that provides slight disadvantage to Zerg but not outrageous disadvantage to Zerg: Jungle Basin. Jungle still provides a very safe expansion, whereas Delta, Steppes, and LT provide completely unsafe expansions and are definitely hated far more than other maps in the pool.
I only want to use one non-ladder map for the first iteration of this tournament.

How many players have joined the tournament thus far?
|
Ah, now i see why you picked Jungle Basin.
Good job on the picking, I'd say.
Hm the starting map I'm not sure if you should use, but it looks ok. Well I guess map makers need someplace to test their map to make good balanced maps for future use xD
Thanks for making this tourny! should be fun
could you provide more rules? like you have to be there within X minutes at the start of the tourny or etc. Unless if you think you can handle things "manually" you could say since it's only 32 people?

I tried not to post too much in the way of rules because I don't like sounding like an overbearing hardass on the internet.
That said...

Jungle Basin next to Scrap Station is the most favored Zerg map in the pool.

Now you're just trolling.
A safe natural doesn't mean it's Zerg favored, a safe natural just means it's easier to expand. For all races. Jungle Basin is NOT favored by Zerg due to the inaccessibility of a third and fourth base in a timely fashion.

Yay
omg really he must be a troll...
Btw, I disagree with Blistering being a bit Zerg favored, I'd say they are unfavored due to a hard third. Sure they can get on 2 base and abuse the opponent's backdoor, but so can the enemy.
But I think Jungle Basin is good anyways cus on Blistering, T>P (and P>Z and T>Z), while on Jungle basin T=P (or at least closer than Blistering?) while P>Z and T>Z like Blistering.
hype hype today will be fun

Only 10 spots left, hurry and sign up!

I'm also waiting for an email, and Polatrite to reply telling us how to "check in."
EDIT: If we're supposed to check in by adding Polatrite, Polatrite.349 doesn't work.

Polatrite.684 is the proper friend code, I filled the other one in at work and couldn't remember the right one.
Check-in simply by messaging me on B.net anytime between 5:00-5:20, I've already added most of you to my friends list.
Still looking for friend codes for Oliver and onpcp.
Now accepting gold players of any rank to fill the other spots.

How strict are you on the points in the Platinum league? I see two people already that have higher than 2,000... Not that it really matters all that much.
