I have decided to update this thread after my ladder matches each day with not just a replay pack but with my own notes and thoughts on ways I could improve. Anyone interested in also leaving comments are more then welcome to because i am interested in become better all around as a player. I will start today with only 1 replay because I just recently started saving replays so I don't have many replays.

I was at a crossroads whether or not this was a blog or not but it is hard to say as i am providing information.

I just finished a lesson with this guy. It was kind of nerve wracking because I knew I was being streamed so I couldn't play my best, but it still helped a lot. He knows his builds well and he taught me a few tricks that make play much easier and not as micro intensive (while making it harder for the opponent). If you ever thought about lessons I think you should try it out.

I'm not as reluctant to play ladder since I can build on my weakest matchup now.
That's what she said

I just finished a lesson, and was happy with it.

A lot of my mistakes came from nerves on my part. As a student, I kind of went into monkey see monkey do mode, where I would miss something if it wasn't said to me explicitly. Case in point, I didn't make a queen on time, overlord, etc.

I think one thing that would of been really helpful is to see the build before hand so I knew what I was trying to do.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the session though. If only I didn't have such stage fright
I plan to live forever, so far so good.

Really enjoyed my lesson with him, answered a ton of questions that I was having trouble with (difficult to find a person as good as he is to do Q&A and asking someone who's worse than you would be unproductive) A lot of helpful tips but a lack of standard macro game relying on surprising strategies will give you less knowledge on the standard tactics to coach (my only tip for you). Really nice guy, and looking forward to asking you more questions in the future

Great lesson, very knowledgeable on ZvP and it's great to talk to someone who has a different play style. Really great stream as well, I look forward to tuning in in the future!

(Also I hope USC gets to play your team in CSL :p)

This guy has motivated me to register and make my first post! Woot!

anyways, heard about some practice coaching sessions Ardonn was offering over on reddit and thought I'd give it a shot. As an sc2 player I'm breaking all my teams to diamond and am damn close to breaking out of plat in my 1's. But other than having a good friend (T) I play teams with, a competitive War3 player, just yelling at me to micro better I've had no other 1 on 1 coaching.

So then came Ardonn, probably couldn't ask for a more patient, laid back, and competently knowledgeable guy. We went into the lesson last minute and all I had was a single 1v1 replay on the computer.

We got right into the map/opponent and general "what was your motivation for" X timing/build. My micro was decent so we didn't spend much time on that, my macro on the other hand needed some time. We went over some good rules of thumb for increasing the efficiency of my build.

I wasn't going into this looking for any particular help in one area, Ardonn did his best at locating the weakest area and explaining the way and logic behind correcting my game play w/o going too far out of my league. We talked about general pro strategy and he demo'd a build order fit for my current playing style.

I never thought I'd be the type to sit down with a pro and do the skype coaching bit. But now, I look forward to bugging Ardonn with questions and sending him better replays for feedback. This one post wonder approves of this fellow.

Additional comments: I would have really like to have a "live" coaching during a game, going over the only 1v1 replay I had (I've been working on mostly team play lately) made me realize I was unprepared for the lesson.

The short - Ardonn is a good coach looking to better the community while improving his skills as a coach atm. He can handle a general replay/feedback with the best of them, but it seems he'd like to also focus lessons on more precise objectives. Check him out, probably be worth your time.

He seems to be on at least a nine hour coaching marathon today :o

The lesson
- confirmed my suspicions of me overdroning most of the time, leaving me with virtually no defense, instead of making units.
- taught me little signs to look for when scouting.
Also gave me general tips here and there. (like when to put down evo chambers)

Would recommend having a very specific thing to work on however, as it will probably give him a better idea of what you need to work on.

Enjoyed the session with him overall

Just had a quick lesson with him. Definitely knows his stuff; works well as a coach.

I'm trying to make the switch from protoss to zerg and saw his post on reddit so figured I may as well get a few pointers. Definitely confirmed some of my suspicions about my play and showed me a few other mistakes I was making. Most importantly though he showed me a few situational builds and gave pointers to go along with them.

I might have been a little tough to deal with because I didn't really have anything specific I wanted to work on (just need to get a general feel for zerg) but I may very well come back to him in the future when I notice myself running into specific roadblocks.

I did a one hour coaching session with him, and will most likely do more.

It has made me more confident on the ladder and more knowledgeable about the game.

He has been very kind to answer questions I have while off the clock, and is very good about following up via email.

I do think coaching can lower the learning curve of starcraft 2. I am 30 years old and this is my first RTS.

I view it the same as getting a chess coach. The info is free and on the net, but having a good player personally helping you reach goals is very nice.

Note: my session was not one of the free sessions he offered over reddit. I in no way feel obligated to give him a good review. Bottom line I paid the man for his time, and to me it was worth it.

Bump for this guy, hes really got a good grasp on the game and is pretty encouraging. Much of value to be found here, and that's coming from someone who got help from the guy and is in Masters already. Which says a lot in my opinion.
