UPDATE (Working Method!)
+ Show Spoiler +
Okay guys! I figured out a way to get this thing working!

Basically the way Blizzard games work is that you can drag and drop or copy and paste and any game's directory (Say Starcraft 2) to another location or computer. When you do that and try to execute the game, it should still work.

Using this knowledge, I transferred the entire StarCraft 2 directory from my second computer which had NOT yet been upgraded to phase 2.

I placed the tranferred directory into C\programfilesx32. (My actual Starcraft 2 which is fully patched to phase 2 runs off C\games).

From here on out, to get phase 1 replays working, all I had to do was load up the newest version of SC2manager, and tell it to execute off C\programfilesx32 (The transferred Starcraft 2 directory).

Keep in mind that the directory you transfer from another computer MUST NEVER be patched to phase 2 if you want the ability to view phase 1 replays.

Hey guys,

For the past couple of hours I've been kind of frustrated with this issue I'm having: Watching old replays from phase 1.

Now as you all know, patching Starcraft 2 today meant that the game wiped all previous versions (patches) and installed a fresh new patch. This new patch (Called Patch 16) is basically now patch 1, and all old patches have been deleted.

Now in order to watch an older replay, (say from patch 15) you need to have these previous versions and SC2manager. So today, in an attempt to access older replays, I decided to install another copy of Starcraft 2 in another directory, and manually patch it using the method found in this thread:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=132276

Using this method, I found that if you stop at patch 8, loading replays with sc2manager works just fine, but once you manually patch to 9, the sc2manager fails to work. Going all the way to patch 15, SC2manager never regains functionality. I have tested this about 5 times now.

It seems there is something wrong with manually patching from patch 9 onward that is causing an inability to view old replays using sc2manager.

Most of you probably don't care much to watch old replays, but it would be a shame to let all these old games go to waste. Maybe somebody out there can help me regain access to replays from beta phase 1?

I figure there MUST be someway to still view replays using manual patching and SC2manager.

Thanks!

I'm sure someone will come out with some kind of launcher eventually. At least, that's what I've been counting on.

In a blue post on the official Blizzard I've read they won't support beta 1 replays anymore. If you update to the current version, you won't be able to watch old replays. It's more Sc2 related and not Sc2manager related problem.

And probably once Sc2 will be released on July 27, you won't be able to watch Beta replays anymore.

I made a backup copy of my full StarCraft II directory before the patch came out. I haven't tried using sc2manager with it yet but I did try to drag a replay onto the .exe to watch it and it straight away told me it was going off to update the .exe file.

StarCraft is like WoW .. you don't need to actually install a second copy in a specific location .. just copy your folder there and it will run quite happily. If I gte a chance later I might try sc2manager - I never realised the .exe was still checking for updates when I used the drag and drop method before

So maybe it would be a good idea of trying launching the replays without an Internet connection? Just a thought.

I am trying to do the same thing, I had a backup of my SC2 folder so I have a phase 2 folder and a phase 1 folder. Can't get it to work on the old version though, looks like some sort of blizz appdata error :/

That is why he is trying to keep a downgraded version of the game to watch old replays.

HD, I tried manual patching on a fresh install when I made my new computer and I also was never able to get anything to work past patch 8. I posted on the tech support forums, but I never got a response that helped. Hopefully someone at TL knows, otherwise you might just be out of luck. :-(

you only need the right version files in order to do so
i'm sure in every region there are some ppl (like me) that backed those files up (as well as all old replays) just in case

if now somehow a launcher would use those files and the matching replays, it should all work fine
(at least for offline purposes)

We need people from each region to upload their full backup directories. (which i think should be legal, because you still need a valid key to even install it in the first place, you won't be able to run it otherwise)

Try this link for manually installing patches. That maged.maged guy is apparently working for Blizzard or something b/c some blue posts said you can trust him.

http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=24702265260&sid=5000

Info from link:
It's not the greatest work-around, but you can also force a patch to load. Please note that this is DEFINITELY not supported. It may or may not work, and can easily break your install. If you do this and continue to have issues, you'll need to reinstall before anybody can provide you with further support.

First, you need the patch files. You'll likely need to grab them from a mirror. See the above post for a list.

Now for the tedious part!
Make sure you do each patch in order.

For each file in each patch, do the following:
1) Move/copy the file to the Support folder in your install folder.
2) Rename it to sc2-patch.MPQ
3) Run Blizzard Updater.exe
4) Delete sc2-patch.MPQ.

It shouldn't matter what order you execute these files within each patch version. It's VERY important, however, that each patch is done in order and that you don't miss a file in a patch. If you don't know what you're doing, make a post in the forum about your issue. We'll try fixing it some other way.

If you are having issues understanding this, please check out this video by MightyTor:

how do you get the custom-patched (to patch 8) sc2 to stop saying that you need to update to patch 16 to view replays?
