EPTFor about four hours straight I single-mindedly searched for my installation cds, generally wrecking my house, turning over tables, knocking over stacks of books, unearthing dusty relics buried in my basement. I bought a new battlechest set probably two years ago, and I had my lasers locked on that bad boy. I WOULD find it.
I have about 10 separate stacks of dvds and cds, stockpiled, randomly laying around. I tried flipping through them individually. No luck. As I was reaching the ends of my stacks I felt a knot form in the pit of my stomach. It was becoming increasingly less likely that I'd find those cds...
But as fate would have it, I accidentally stumbled upon my dlink box. For whatever reason I made it a habit to stack all my important cds in it... although at random, so I had no idea whether I would fine windows cds, gaming cds, or backup cds. So I grabbed the box, I clawed it opened, feeling pretty excited, thinking to myself, "Imagine D players having to deal with mutas before they even have stim!". I had to wipe the drool off my mouth with my sleeve.
So I searched eagerly through the box and BINNGGOOOO. I found 1 of the 2 CDs I was searching for. SC1. With its cdkey printed on its little label.
I FELT as though I had seen the BW cd, well, EVERYWHERE. I checked in my desk's drawers. It seems as though I left it sitting there forever. I distinctly remember one instance when kerrigan's green face was staring right at me while searching for a pen in my drawers. How many days ago was that? Or was it months? Whenever it was it just wasn't there anymore.... It's crazy because I had the most certain feeling that if not in those drawers it was ontop of my tv, or behind my printer. I had seen it pretty much all over the basement because I had left it out in the open for so long and it would end up moving from one place to the other, one stock pile to the other.
But nothing..... WTFH. Suddenly, the most brilliant thought came to me. I had one more box that I hadn't looked in.... Or at least I HAD one more box that I hadn't looked in. You see, I bought this new ATI graphics card one day to replace my old ATI 7500. I was so excited to get it I tore open the box like a little kid on Christmas Eve. Finally, I'd be able to play new games, all my videos would run smoothly.
Imagine the nerdrage when I found out that my motherboard only supported graphics cards with AGP slots... This card was way too new for my computer. This card had a PCIE slot... tailored towards new computers, not 2003 shitboxes. I remember my blood boiling when I figured that out. Unfortunately, by the time I did figure that out the grace period for returns had expired so my spiffy new graphics card was fucking useless. It would rot in its box for an entire year and a half before I gave it away to my friend. I thought MAY BE, I had put my BW cd in there. So I called my friend and I asked him to double check the box. He said, "No it's not there, now FUUUUU, I have school in a few hours." I said, good night.
So again I felt hopeless.
But then... A miracle happened. Out of absolutely nowhere, like Gryffindor's sword, this object appeared to me when I was in dire need, when I requested for help. It was... an Atlantic pod.

It's funny. Sometimes, you literally forget that you own something. It falls so far below your immediate awareness, you literally forget that it exists. This is what happened with this thing. I got it for christmas in 2000. At first I used this little storage device for all my cds, but then after a while it became a little tedious flipping through the row of cds one by one. It didn't help that it was labeled by numbers alone... Great organizer. As its utility went down, so too did my awareness of this thing until one day it disappeared completely from existence. I looked at this bulky purple cylinder, probably every single day. After all, it sat patiently on my table all this time, a table I passed by every day. But it's as if it just didn't register in my brain anymore. It made me wonder how many objects like this hid in plane sight from me.
As soon as I flipped open the very first cd slot, an old, worn out CD-R popped out, labelled, "Warrior Madness' CD". And with it a flood of memories and emotion. These weren't just any cds.... These were childhood treasures. Lost treasures; objects and toys I was fond of, that I buried in my backyard and long forgot about. So now I was completely transfixed on this cd organizer. I sat their in quiet awe. I can't beleive this cd still existed! What would I find in it, and in other cds that might be hiding in this organizer? Who was I back then?
"CD-R Sony 650MB, Multi Speed 1X 2X 4X" So I ran to my computer and I immediately popped in the cd. "Read" was blinking feverishly on my cd drive, I heard the cd slowly speed up, faster and faster, and then slow down to a dead halt. After a little while my computer started to make grinding sounds, struggling to read the data on the disc. "Ahhh, finally!" I was able to look into the cd. To my disappointment, the contents on my cd was quite bare. But then I saw the 3 magic letters that had always promised joy and amusement. It always has. D....B....Z.... "Dbz" was where I hid all my porn. I opened it... Again I felt deflated. It really was filled with DBZ things. Mostly DBZ music videos. I looked through all of them, a smile growing on my face.
I popped in the next CD. Again, there was a folder named DBZ. And this time... it did not disappoint. This is it. This is exactly what I was looking for. My old porn stash. Porn straight from KAZAA. These weren't just porn clips. These represented an era. Y2K, Kazaa, napster, 56k modems, starcraft 1. Well, my porn collection certainly was full. "Anal Clip", "Monica Goth Pumper", "Teen fucked outside bathing", "francine dee tittyfuck blowjob", "Slovenian Big Titted Hardcore", it was all there.
So intoxicated with the promise of nostalgia and warm memories from the next set of CDs, I flipped the next slot open.
My mouth gaped open in shock. There’s a CD-RW. "Starcraft BrooDWarZ" was sloppily scribbled on the cd, clearly not my writing. Was this it??? Just like that??? It came down... to this???...... FUUUCKKKK YESSSS!!!!!!
My mission was finally over. I DDIIIDD ITT!!!!! Like I said I would, I fucking did it! I felt elated. I could hear my heart thudding in my ears. What were the chances??? It was fate. It was destiny. I could've die a happy man.
So then I pop in my cd. I install starcraft 1 without any trouble at all. So now it’s the moment of truth. The big reveal. Would this BW cd I found as if through destiny, actually work? I put in this 10 year old burned copy of starcraft into my cd drive. And the cd whirled. Again my computer started to grind, I could hear it struggling to keep the cd spinning. But then…..success, I felt that most supreme of pleasures you feel as the BW installation screen prompts, ceremoniously accompanied with that oh so beautiful, introductory sound.
“Install”.
So that’s that. I restart the computer. Put in the CD and click “play.” The cinematic starts to play but something is wrong…. I click single player, and set up a match against a CPU. My…. Screen is fucked up. Whhatt, theee hell? It’s like I’m playing the game through a FISH EYE LENS. Something is wrong. And then it dawns on me….Oh fucking Hell, does it DAWN on me…..
I found that thread that was “vaguely” related to the first time I suddenly felt an urge to play starcraft.

I know a technical problem hasn't been posted since late yesterday, but I need my starcraft fix. Okay so when I play starcraft the entire screen is stretched horizantally, that is, a good chunk of the left and right side is cut off from the screen (I can't see the minimap for example). I've searched around these boards and basically you need to use a "fixed aspect ratio" setting in your display driver. But I have a radeon 7500 and the only ATI catalyst version that allows for aspect ratio scaling (version 8.3 and up) is incompatible with my radeon 7500. SO, is there a way to fix this without buying a new monitor/graphics card/snarky replies?
