You can have the best players in the world, but if you don't have the ball, it almost doesn't mean anything. If anything, I think Spain's mid-field possession is looking stronger than ever. Actually, in Euro 2008, Spain by far looked stronger than Germany, but people still doubted Spain because of their underachieving/choking tendency. Beating Italy in the quarter-final was probably the turning point/breakthrough for Spain imo.

agree, in 2008 spain was clear favorite in the finals vs germany, and also they didnt lose or draw a single game in 2008.

I usually consider penalties after 120 minutes a draw...

Italy didn't look convincing at all in their group stage, but somehow, they were the closest to beating Spain, all without Gattuso and Pirlo who were suspended.

I really hope that Germany goes far. In my opinion, they play football in a way that it is actually quite entertaining to watch.
(I'm swedish, so the football I am used to is devoid of counter-attacks, attacking in general and filled with aerial passes home to the defenders)

Damn. Only caught the second half of the game last night, but did anyone else get some serious Chelsea vs Barcelona vibes? Lol. Ronaldo was really good though.

Nice write up good sir. This is really the best international soccer tournament I've yet to watch, almost every game has been fascinating.

I can't really take your opinion on football seriously when you predicted England to beat Italy. Absolute madness.

Before it was quite common it will be a close game. I think everybody thought England would be better than what they showed.
In the end it was decided by penalties only even thought Italy was a lot stronger.

England vs Italy might of been a bit of poetic license coming through in my prediction, but the other games i had right (ish) I had correct results for 3/4 ties, with one perfect prediction of Spain 2-0 France, scoring a late second to wrap it up. That was the hardest game to predict minus the England game, and i gave reasons for saying it, and well it was going be won 1-0 if anything so i can't say i was that wrong. I don't mind being criticised, it comes with writting but i don't like to be criticised without any formal argument, you have just put basically "i dont agree with you therefore your wrong and i cannot read this" in one game i was wrong out of all 4000 words i think it was, about 100 of it was "wrong" therefore you dislike the whole opinion of the tournament :S
Anyway, not here to argue just to ask for a bit more positive criticism please, im only trying to get more football awareness on TL :D

It's pretty self evidence from the game why England were going to get outplayed. Anyway, I called you out on Portugal-Spain because imo Spain are by a mile the best team in this tournament and they're get to roll everyone and probably not even concede a goal. So we can see there who's right.
It seemed really obvious to me and others that Gerrard (a player with zero positional skills but a lot of talent) and Parker (a player with no talent and mediocre positioning) were going to get annihilated by an Italian side playing 4 central midfielders. Not to mention England have looked woeful going forward all tournament so chances of them scoring vs the Italians of all teams was pretty slim.
