So many players, so little time.. I feel like a moron now, thanks for the correction :D And I agree. Spain's weakness is they are just so predictable. Good game plans are the key to beating them, in my opinion.

I agree with your Quarter Finals picks, the score can be capricious as shown in the group stages thought. Pretty weird Euro anyway.... so many upsets, surprises and generally subpar play from favourite/strong teams. There is nothing abnormal. I keep harping on the fact that the Euros have no genuinely weak teams, everyone who made it can play. Even Ireland being whipped was them performing below expectation, they are a better team than they showed. Nothing particularly upsetting about how it pans out and no different from any other Euro. Everyone who got out of their group deserved it, thats why they are there. We may not like them or their brand of football and the neutral casuals in particular enjoy kick and rush but unless there was some externality not involving football I dont see how anyone can complain about who did and didnt deserve it. As for the op Good effort on the writeup though, seems like alot of work put in.. The Portugal Czech Republic game pretty much hinges on who wins the midfield. I think Rosicky is vital there otherwise they'll get ran at from the flanks all day and they dont have the defense to shutout Ronaldo and I expect Postiga to get some looks if it goes that way. Especially with Nani playing as well as he is and the rest of the team being generally very very solid. And yeah Karagounis is out so for Greece if anything it depends on wether the likes of Gekas and Samaras can get any ( if at all )purchase out of Germany because we know how the games going to go defenssively for them. Ofcourse if they show up like they did against the Czechs it might get really bad really quicky.. Spain is going to have a field day with Mexes, Edit: seems like hes suspended. Might just work out reasonably well Koscielny can actually defend. I dont think he should have tooo much trouble slotting in with Rami, but it will be hard no doubt. France is a decent matchup for them most teams (hell even Germany in 10 after all their blitzs earlier) play way to deep against them even when they do have the quality to keep the ball and play. Italy did it really well. France will likely do the same just not aswell and perhaps more flair going forward. Italy England cant say, its a Woy team vs a pretty Italian Italy.

Rooney looked shaky (understatement), Ashley Young just doesn't deliver consistently, Milner is the same but we need him to cover our defense etc. I think its telling that our best player has been the mighty Stevie G! How do you think we should play? I would drop Young, I really haven't been impressed with him so far this tournament at all - maybe bring up Oxlade Chamberlain (I am bias being a massive Arsenal fan), but I feel he can bring that injection of enthusiasm/youth that we lack so much right now. To be honest our biggest problem is that we have absolutely zero link between the attack and defence. Milner, Parker and to a certain extent Gerrard, really don't offer much going forward most of the time. This puts Rooney and Welbeck in a pretty difficult situation, and Young has completely failed to bridge that gap. Maybe switch Carroll with Welbeck, seeing as we seem to basically just put the ball in the box and hope. He and Walcott can also offer some good pace off the bench later in the game.

I really agree on the Young front. I think he has so much talent and is excellent for United, but he just doesn't cut it internationally from what I've seen. Same with your comment about linking up our defence and attack - we have a great defence, and a very good attack, but we lack options in midfield. Can't fault Milner/Parker's work rate, but I don't know. We'll see what happens. I'll be going gaga regardless no doubt. Really looking forward to it.

One minor point though, in 2004 Rooney set the tournament alight with 4 goals in the group stages but against Portugal he broke his foot and had to come off. It was in the WC in 2006 vs Portugal that he got sent off.

First of all they are all born in Germany beside Podolski and Klose but those two grew up here and Klose has a German father (recognize his name?) Boateng, Khedira and Gomez have a German parent, mother or father and are born in Germany. I ask you to not post something like this again because it's very disrespectful. Portugal vs Czech Republic Germany vs Greece Spain vs France Italy vs England I think England "Chelsea"ing their way to the championship is bullshit because of one player: Petr Cech. That guy saved Chelsea countless times, and I don't see England's keeper up to par. I still stand by Spain winning the cup. Even if it is a Spain vs Germany rematch, I can say that Spain can still win it. In both the Euro and the World Cup, Germany looked the stronger team (as always), ripping through teams like nothing. But when they played against Spain, you never saw that German machine you're used to seeing. It's like they hit a wall, like a wrench is thrown in engine. You can have the best players in the world, but if you don't have the ball, it almost doesn't mean anything. If anything, I think Spain's mid-field possession is looking stronger than ever.
