why are you talking about torres being the sole 1man army up front? Just read today that Fabregas seems to have recovered and is villa injured?
...Yes Villa is injured, and Fabregas doesn't play up front like a striker he is dangerous around the edge of the box but not an upfront threat. You can look up their squad at any point to see their euro team.

Who can score vs them?? ..... I'm not really sure why people are writing us off, and saying we're on the level of Sweden or Russia or whatever. We still have proven world class players in Gerrard, Hart, Terry, Cole and Rooney. Welbeck, Walcott, Young, the Ox and co are somewhat unknown on an international level, but have impressed in the premiership. Furthermore our international record over the last year is impressive, with wins over Spain, Belgium, Sweden and Norway and a narrow defeat against the Dutch. Our defence has been rock solid recently - I can really see us getting somewhere this summer.

I thought we already have a Euro 2012 thread, which is incredibly detailed? might as well use that instead. Anyway I think Spain will win, or maybe Holland, safe picks but Germany recently got thrashed by Switzerland and Holland were scoring for fun vs Northern Ireland. England however, don't have a chance. No attack to speak of and so many injured key players.

I also agree that England is certainly not code S material and arguably not even code a. My top picks are Spain cause spain and a surprise in russia.

Where is the poll? I hope Germany will win.

Spain is the favorite to me. I have to agree with this. Germany did look far from solid in their last matches, have problems with key players coming back from injuries (Mertesacker, Klose) and mental setbacks (Bayern players - actually, the only starting XI players having had a moderately successful season are the Real players and Klose) and have a key match to start off the tournament. Lose against Portugal - can easily happen if Ronaldo scores early and/or very late and German offensive doesn't have a good day - and they're basically guaranteed their tickets home. Favourite to take it would be Spain, followed by the Netherlands and France - all of them can control a game through powerful offensive, yet Spain has the most solid defense out of those three. Both France and Spain would have to choke incredibly hard to not make it out of their groups, too, while Group B is anyone's game depending on first playday results.
Agreed. I think the Netherlands has to truly focus on D to win it. Arjen Robben needs to score in more ways then driving down the right wing, cutting left and shooting. I think they are my favourite to win though.

Unless van Persie brings his A(rsenal) game I don't consider us to be any where near close to Spain or Germany. So my bets are on Spain.

The last time the England team looked this bad, we lost on Peno's to the eventual winners in a game we could very easily have won. And this time we don't have to deal with Gazza using up a starting place.
I really feel as though a lack of expectation should help us out.
In all seriousness though, I can't look past Spain. They'll miss Villa, but anyone who saw Llorente in the Europa League will understand that he is more than adequate as a replacement.

Psst, we're supposed to count England out for a change so they can surprise everyone and win it.

Germany with again "surprise surprise" easy group should come fast. Croatia with killer Group and Olic out...argh
I think france will do it

My guess is Deutschland for reasonable winners. They were the most attractive squad in the 2010 World Cup, and the core of that team remains. They score, they pass beautifully, and their defense plays very well into the counter-attack. Ozil is a known quantity, and between Klose, Podolski and Gomez, they've got an embarrassment of riches up front if they need to go for broke.
I must confess, though, I'd love to see Croatia make a deep run. I've enjoyed their play over the last 8 years or so. Mandzukic could have a real coming out party and their squad has a lot of depth despite the country's size. Supporting Spurs too, I'm partial to Modric, Kranjcar and Corluka. My only regret is that there are no Turks to rehash the Euro 2008 badassery that those two countries provided!

SPAIN torres? Who cares? Xavi, Fabregas, Iniesta, Alonso, Ramos, Casilias.
|
i think netherlands can do it, then spain, then France, then Germany
But we will see a France - Spain or a France - Netherlands in 1/4 so one of those 3 bigs will not pas trough.
I'm worried about that because even if we have a good team and good teamplay our defense is one of the weakest we ever had, with a catastrophic and idiot patrice Evra who most of the time plays higher than Ribery and is one of the worst defender on the planet skill wise. He just does things you cannot see at a professionnal level, he's not a defender.
And our central defence is slow, slow, slow and even slower, i think we will take at least two goals from england if Blanc doesn't let Koscielny play instead of Rami.

I agree, I too think they are the dark horse of this race. I do think Germany or Spain will take it, with the Netherlands as a close contender, but if those russians get that amazing football going; surely they can beat anyone on their day.

italy is actually gonna win this

Spain and Germany as favorites, but I think most people feel that Holland and Italy could pull an upset. I have a feeling France will win it all - hope Germany will prove me wrong :D

Spain. Germany has had some issues lately and a group they can easily be upset out of.
