Saturday March 26th 18:00 GMT (+00:00)

It's been a long week. Since the opening weekend, I think it is safe to say that everyone has just been waiting for the next Saturday to roll around. The first two days were stacked with amazing games and top players. Expect nothing less when you tune in this weekend. In fact, I would say that the players lined up for Saturday and Sunday are going to make for even better games. A strong statement, I know, but on Saturday there are two GSL champions playing against foreigners, Qxc vs. Genius, which is going to be an epic clash of styles, and a match between top Europeans. We could very well see another upset. But whether our brackets get blindsided for the second time or not, I can't wait to see what happens.

[image loading] [image loading] IM.Mvp vs. Mill.Adelscott [image loading] [image loading]

[image loading][image loading]

In his interview, Adelscott humbly said that PvT is not his best matchup. Unfortunately, this is probably true. Of all the matchups, Adelscott has lost to top players the most in PvT. He lost to Thorzain in the 12th TL Open and Strelok knocked him out of two tournaments in February. It's tough enough to be matched against someone many call the best in the world. To have it be your worst matchup is just bad luck. The good news is that this is Mvp's worst matchup, too. That said, this is Mvp, so take "worst matchup" with a grain of salt. Since his infamous loss to Squirtle in the February GSTL, Mvp has gone 3-5 in TvP. In the GSL Up-Down matches it was two Protoss, Alicia and Genius, that knocked Mvp down to Code A.

Adelscott has good macro. As Chill said about Adelscott in a TL Open game against Thorzain, "it actually looks like he's cheating, how does he have all these units!". Good mechanics are not enough to beat Mvp, though. At times Adelscott tries too hard to finish the game in one attack, and gets crushed or crippled when he loses everything. This is odd coming from a player with strong macro, and makes me think he is lacking good transitions or strategies for the late game. Another thing about Adelscott is that he likes to use warp prisms. While entertaining, Adelscott likes to use them in the mid-game. Even if it catches Mvp off guard, after the first drop I don't think they will prove significant.

Bracket Contest: Like Liquid`Tyler, I actually give Adelscott a good chance to win this series. However, my liquibet is still on Mvp because 1) he just got knocked down to Code A and is most likely pissed off and out for blood 2) he said, like Adelscott, that he was tailoring builds specifically for his opponent, and 3) Mvp is happy on 2 bases, which should negate early pressure from Adelscott.

Bracket Stat: MVP is picked to win in 96% of brackets (3124 to 144).

[image loading] [image loading] FXOqxc vs. MVP_Genius [image loading] [image loading]

[image loading][image loading]

This series is going to be very interesting. In his interview, Qxc said that he was going to focus on his "own builds and skills" which leads me to believe that we will indeed see the standard Qxc style. If so, Qxc is going to have to push his aggressive, harassment heavy play to it's limit if he wants to break Genius. I think, though, that it will ultimately prove ineffective. This series might be a repeat of Sen vs. Fenix - one player trying to crack the other with offensive builds and the other holding out while macroing. Genius said himself that his weakness is that he "plays too safe". Unless Qxc wants to donate units, this does not bode well for harassment based strategies. Fortunately for both he and the spectators, there is more to Qxc than tactics. Above all, I would call him an adaptive player. One of the reasons his games are so exciting to watch is because he has no qualms with trying something new or jumping at opportunities. How far this will take him, we will find out.

Bracket Contest: Larger maps suit Genius very well. I think that Qxc will be hard pressed to force an early gg, which is his best chance to win. I'm predicting this series to go as expected, and for Genius to take the win. Qxc's mechanics and late-game macro should not be taken lightly though, and he could very well prove me wrong.

Bracket Stat: Genius is picked to win in 67% of brackets (2241 to 1022).

[image loading] [image loading] IM.NesTea vs. ESC.GoOdy [image loading] [image loading]

[image loading][image loading]

Love him or hate him, you can't deny Goody's skill. The Top Dog of March has some serious talent. His long practiced transitions into mech armies are well oiled and his pushes, even from cross positions on a large map, are strong in unit composition and catch many off guard. This should prove especially effective against NesTea who has "no information" on Goody. However, Goody is a slow-rolling Terran who likes to build up and I can see a Kyrix style of aggressive being particularly difficult for him to deal with. NesTea is not adverse to early aggression and once he sees the opportunity to push a bit harder, Goody may crumble before his death machine gets out of production. Nerves may be another issue for Goody. This is a big tournament for him and there is a lot to be had for beating NesTea. Many players have faltered and fallen from stupid mistakes in their biggest games. I hope Goody won't be one of them.

Bracket Contest: Goody is going to win this. NesTea has certainly seen mech before, but maybe not from a player who plays it so consistently and successfully. NesTea will try to use mind control and mass muta to win, but Goody has dealt with that many times and will barrel through it. If I were Goody, I would be worrying about baneling busts and all-ins.

Bracket Stat: NesTea is picked to win in 97% of brackets (3153 to 105).

[image loading] [image loading] dignitas.NaNiwa vs. TLAF-Liquid`Ret [image loading] [image loading]

[image loading][image loading]

Naniwa is on a PvZ hot streak. Just coming off his GCPL, semifinal ACE match win over Idra, and a close 2-3 loss to Sen in the finals, Naniwa is looking very strong indeed. 28-14 against Zergs in March, Naniwa is looking to end the month by making it into the Ro16 in the TSL and carrying his momentum over to April. Naniwa is approaching this series with confidence. Though Ret defeated him at Assembly in February, in his interview Naniwa said that Ret "isn't nearly as good as I thought he was". For Ret, he is excited to play this series and feels that Naniwa has "gotten better recently." Ret has taken all that he learned in Korea back to Europe with him and I have no doubt that he is practicing hard to both figure out the new maps and ready his build orders.

Bracket Contest: Naniwa and Ret are two very different players. Naniwa is admittedly micro oriented while Ret, of course, is the perennial drone farmer. This is my most anticipated series for the weekend simply because I have no idea who will win. I do give Ret the edge though, reason being that both players have had ample time to practice solely for this series and I know that Ret, from his Brood War days, knows how to seriously train and polish his builds.

Bracket Stat: Ret is picked to win in 74% of brackets (2391 to 859).

Cheerfuls !

Great writeup not much of a huge Korean bias between Qxc v Genius. Nestea expected to just dominate Goody, I'm surprised that got up to a 97% favor for him, as I expect that to be a pretty great matchup. So hyped for the games to start up again!

You are sure of Goody beating Nestea, that is interesting. Not entirely unlikely though since a korean cuold definetly be caught by surprise by Goodys style. Of all players I would say that Nestea would be the one who would adjust to it though. But hey it would be really cool to see the panzer general roll over Nestea and the koreans would be like "the fuck is going on here, how can one win like that?" It is the game I look forward to the most and as much as I like Nestea I will cheer for the panzer general as well

I am really looking forward to the Nestea vs Goody. Someone pressing almost pure mech vs zerg is something we haven't seen exacuted very well, (save maybe zenio vs SlayerS_Boxer). I don't have anywhere near the confident Xxio does in Goody's chance to win (nor does Goody it seems) but I think it should be really fun to watch.

NesTea is going to destroy Goody. Goody's macro is quite terrible, from the replays I've seen he gets supply blocked 2-3 times a game.

Don't the koreans have like 2 second delay when playing? How is that even playable? Hopefully the games won't be as disappointing as Boxer vs nightend where all they do is turtle cause they don't want to risk microing with early game pressure..

I think saying Goody will take down Nestea is ballsy to say the least. I think Nestea is a stronger player in pretty much every conceivable aspect of sc2.

LOL

the only minor upset i can see happening is qxc beating genius, genius hasn't been great recently, but qxc is lacking on practice.

I'm honestly a little surprised more people voted for qxc than for Naniwa.

People are over-estimating qxc and underestimating Naniwa imo. I think Naniwa's going to play so good it won't even really be close. And Genius, while maybe not the best in the world, IS code S. AND recently beat MVP in a Bo3. qxc is absolutely nowhere near the level of Genius, I have a feeling it's going to be pretty bad.

A lot of Starcraft comes down to public relations. If you don't follow the Starcraft scene intimately, then you vote for who you've heard of and assume they are better.

Exactly what chill said. I voted for goody and with high convictions not just fanboyism. His style is just so unique. In the terran world in europe you have mech players, bio players, biomech players and then you have goody. Its not just the full mech, he HAS a style with very specific timmings and harrassments and defences. He's played like he does for hundreds of games which makes the matchup not a zvt or pvt but a zvgoody or pvgoody. If one guy can mess up your mind with a different style that's him.

Getting matches where the koreans get 97%of the votes make me laugh quite a bit too. In some cases its justified, in others no. Popularity + country flag > analysis of actual skill and gameplay. But eh most people dont have the time to really go deep in that stuff so i cant blame uninformed guesses or votes.

My predictions:

Genius < qxc
- Genius beat Mvp, yes, but is historically bad against Terran. Now look at the Terran he HAS lost to... Rain, Rainbow, and DAVIT. All cheesers and/or Harassed based Terrans, exactly what qxc is, exactly what Mvp is not. So what I'm getting at here is that Genius is weak to harass and cheese, not weak to a Terran that tries to go macro against him (cough Mvp), so I think qxc, the always agressive harasser, will take this.

NesTea < GoOdy (could go either way though)
-Like others have been saying, NesTea is not preparing at all for the GoOdy style, and I think that will take him off guard. It's like playing against ActionJesuz for the first time, NORMALLY, you would know exactly what's coming at you, and plan accordingly, and that is where GoOdy probably loses the most, when his opponents know exactly what he's going to do, and plan accordingly. But for a first time playing against GoOdy, you might not know what to do against the Panzer General. That said, it will all come down to how NesTea reacts to this. He is after all, probably the best Zerg in the world, so you have to think that he would respond better than any other player who's playing in the dark against an extremely unique stylistic player. So this one is really hard to predict because it all comes down to how NesTea reacts. But I will go with GoOdy, because that would probably put me in first for Liquibet :p, gotta have hope.

Ret > Naniwa
-Ret won there recent meet-up, Naniwa recently lost to Sen, and although Naniwa recently beat IdrA, Ret is going to no doubt study about why and how IdrA lost to prevent that from happening to him. To be fair to Naniwa, he will be doing the same thing with his own recent losses to Zergs, but I think his 28-14 record this month is inflated because a lot of those victories are over mediocre opponents. Also, for Ret, he hasn't lost to a Protoss in a Bo3 or over since January...... and that loss was to MC (at Kapersky). Other than losing to MC, he hasn't lost a Bo3 since 2010, at MLG where he lost to Tyler (however he did lose to Minigun and Kiwikaki both each once in Bo1s since then, but still in January). Ret takes this.'

Mvp > Adelscott
- I always have felt like, that Adelscott's losses come from him making mistakes consistently, or throwing away the game, and his wins are when his opponent does the same. Not to be harsh of Adel, but that's just what I see. That means that ever-solid Mvp is a HORRIBLE opponent for Adel. Mvp did lose to Genius and Alicia recently yes, but they are world class (S-Class) Protoss, Adelscott is not. Also in the GSTL Mvp + Show Spoiler +
redeemed himself by beating 2 of TSL's finest Protosses, only to lose TesteR
And as Xxio pointed out, Mvp has obviously been practicing/getting his "blood boiling" against Protoss, so I don't think Adel can win.

Have a feeling Nestea will win, but I'm warming to Goody surely enough; most eagerly anticipating this one! Now, I am off in search of paper towels to clean up the coffee I spat at my monitor after seeing that Ret poster.

in a bracket contest lop-sided vote results are too be expected. Its not that people think that he has a 97% chance of winning but just that 97% of the people think they have a better chance to win the bracket contest with that result.

Goody has trouble with one of the most basic aspects of going mech . . . not getting supply blocked by the bajillion thors that you're making. He has fairly terrible mechanics and multitasking.

I think that Nestea is the clear favorite.

But you have to think, because NesTea has a better chance of getting to the finals, that people are going to vote for NesTea, because in there opinion if they guess NesTea, that can possible garnish them 5 correct match-results, where if they pick GoOdy to win this and then just roll over and die in his next match, that is going to get them less points in the overall bracket.

I borrowed a friend's korean account and played on their server and it's really not that bad. I didn't feel like there was any additional response time compared to NA servers.

If you watched GSTL, you'd know MVP has been doing pretty good lately. I'm not to worried about him. ^^

A lot of Starcraft comes down to public relations. If you don't follow the Starcraft scene intimately, then you vote for who you've heard of and assume they are better.

That's pretty true, I just assumed people here did follow stuff closely.

Actually, my brother had qxc to win in his bracket because he didn't know Genius either. Guess I can't blame casual viewers on picking qxc, he definitely shows up more than Genius.

Picking Goody to win this round doesn't mean they have to carry him through the brackets to the finals.

I have Nestea winning against goody, but losing in the Ro16. Just because you pick a player to win a match, doesn't mean you think he's winning the tourney.

Goody over Nestea? Really? I like goody, but nestea can abuse mutalisks as good or even better then idra, which is the bane of mech builds.
Ret vs Naniwa is going to be an amazing series

My head is going to explode if Goody really wins over Nestea. His mechanics are horrible for a progamer and if Nestea realizes that the guy usually has sub-100 apm he can just run circles around him.

hmm even though NesTea said he had no information on Goody, he ALSO said that one of his biggest strength's was the preparation he puts into each game, he say's he cant play as much because he's older but that means he has more time to analyze... I'm sure he's fully aware of Goody's style by now.

Seems like Koreans are really whining about the latency though, and considering how insanely good their internet is over there, its probably a legitimate handicap, and that could really hurt him..

I really don't think NesTea will lose to Goody. Having a different style might catch you off-guard for one game, but NesTea is known for scouting and inferring what his opponent is doing very wll from the information he receives. He'll know that some really different style is in play, and he'll be able to win. APM isn't everything, but there's a clear difference when someone whose apm is in the low 100s (I read this somewhere, correct me if I'm wrong) plays against a GSL champion. He simply won't have the multitasking to keep up with NesTea.

Ret versus Naniwa should be an unbelievable series. I'm predicting Ret takes it with a dramatic every-base-mined-out macro game.

They are exagerating a lot and blame it far too much on lag. It is also usually the whiners who post the most and the only comments that you can actually take serious admit that the Europeans played very good. Jinro's loss did not come because of lag and I think neither did FD's (or Huk's).

How big of a factor is cross server play in SC2? FPS games are virtually unplayable if you are trying to play from Europe or Asia to the US. A top tier player will be reduced to that of a upper-mid tier player.

I'm asking this question because most analysis I have read about TSL seems to disregard or downplay the latency factor. If this were a Quake Live tourney, a player playing in a US tourney from Korea would be considered to have little to no chance of success regardless of how good that player is.

It's a bit funny how people jumped on the ''Nestea is going to get caught off guard'' bandwagon. The guy is known to scout alot. He's also known for Muta harass and Doom drops. It's fucking Zergbong bitch, not JoeZerg who'll macro for 20 minutes and then get crushed by a push.

Though, I'm starting to think that Naniwa has an actual chance against Ret. Even if TL's flying dutchman is the superior player, the metagame seems to favor Ps against the Zergs,,,,or not.
Ret is known for being weak in the early game, and each time i saw the Swede play, he was being very chessy. Still voted for Ret. Always backing Zerg players.

Has for QXC, i think his reputation got him his votes more than anything else. He seems truely off form these past few months. On the other hand, Genius is starting to look like the player he once was. Both players have a lot to prove, but Genius won against MvP, so i don't think QXC will be much to deal with, sadly. As for the MVp game, i think it's gonna be very one sided. Very very one sided. GL to everyone though. All these guys deserve to be there.
Real mens play Zerg.. Startale fighting.

"If I were Goody, I would be worrying about baneling busts and all-ins."

Is this serious? How many of NesTea's ZvT's are baneling busts and all-ins? I'm curious as to how the writer came to this conclusion.

Edit: did they (or he/she) confuse NesTea with July or something?

I'm hoping Nestea will drop a map vs Goody. But Nestea is just so solid. I know Ret's a monster, and while Naniwa is too I think Ret's got this. Qxc is a bit of an oddball though. He's my favourite player, and his micro is like my brain in game. But I honestly think Genius will beat him. MVP and Adelscott is even more weird. Both players weakest MUs, but with MVP being at least top 2 terran with MKP I think he'll win. He has miracle macro, can scrape together an army with nothing (See IdrA vs MVP on Artosis's channel) and is just a solid player.
Never argue with an idiot. They will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Maybe we should name him "GoOderian", after the german General Guderian. He was the first considering "Panzer" not as Infantry-support-unit, but as independent fighting force - leading to the creation of Panzer -Divisions.

I cheer for him - as always:

I cannot WAIT for qxc vs Genius or Ret vs NaNiwa, 22 more hours =)1!!!!
It's not like I just one day DECIDED to play Terran. I was born that way, and there isn't one thing I or anybody else can do about it.

Also, hope MVP is out of his slump....

If you watched GSTL, you'd know MVP has been doing pretty good lately. I'm not to worried about him. ^^

I am not undererstimating Naniwa... (not that I ve ever heard of him before) but

I KNOW RET, The best motherfcking Zerg in the World. Hes going take tsl3 ez. He and Mondragon are going to battle it out. In the finals.

take my word.

2am Start for me here in Western Australia.....

Which means I wouldn't see Naniwa v Ret until maybe about..... 4? am...
I don't think there will be too much competition in our first 2 games, to be honest. Love an upset, but maybe I will set my alarm
Play the games!
