[TSL] Casters and Maps

We are excited to finally announce our casting team! Each is a pillar of the community, and we are happy that they will be gathering under one virtual casting booth for TSL3. The four featured casters will each get an opportunity to cast with one another -- all main caster combinations will happen!

Featured Caster Introductions

Blake "Chill" Muzar is a long time face of the TSL. His casting roots started in making strategic commentaries three years ago, and from there moved on to hosting Team Liquid events TL Attack!, Liquibition, as well as the two previous TSLs. Known for dry Canadian humor, he has a no-nonsense style of casting that hits the critical issues of any game.

Sean "Day[9]" Plott is truly a man needing no introduction. For StarCraft: Brood War, Day9 casted the TSL2 and the WCG Grand Finals three times. He hosts Day[9] Daily and has done commentary for nearly every major StarCraft 2 event outside Korea, including MLG, IEM, Blizzcon, and Dreamhack. Day9 brings incredible energy, strategic analysis, and offbeat humor to every event he attends.

Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham is a long time commentator of many competitive video games. He has done casting for Blizzcon, MLG, and WCG World Finals. Wheat hosts the popular programs Live on 3, Weapon of Choice, and Kings of Tin, and brings professionalism and experience to any casting team. He is also currently training his son to be the future SC2 bonjwa.

Mike "Husky" Lamond started casting games of StarCraft: Brood War over YouTube. Since StarCraft 2's release, Husky has since grown his channel to not only one of the largest in the Starcraft world, but anywhere on the internet. With a passion for the game that few are able to rival, he is also making it big as a SC2 musical star. Known for upbeat, humorous casts he has the rare ability to make any game interesting and entertaining.

With special guest commentator:

Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski is best known for casting the GSL and denying high fives. Artosis was a top American Brood War Terran who moved into casting for events such as Blizzcon, the WCG Grand Finals, and the first two TSLs. In 2009, Artosis moved to Korea and gained years of experience covering events with IEG and the eSTRO progaming team. Since StarCraft 2's release, Artosis has become an important figure in the community. Currently a caster for GSL, he is known for his deep understanding of Starcraft 2 and ability to give strategic insight. Artosis will be taking a few days out of his busy GSL schedule to cast some TSL3 games.

TSL3 Day 1 has been announced, everything kicks off on Saturday, Mar 19 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00).

Get ready!

A month ago we announced the candidate map pool for the TSL3. Since then we've gathered opinions of players and fans and have finally reached a consensus. We are pleased to introduce the maps what will be used in the TSL3 main event.

Each player will be allowed to thumbs down one map in best-of-three and best-of-five series. Maps will be randomly chosen and ordered of those remaining.

Map Modifications

Shakuras Plateau has been edited for diagonal position play only, and Metalopolis has been edited to remove close land positions. The bottom of ramps have been modified to prevent easy walling with buildings. Our Blizzard ladder maps are the same as those used in MLG, and the GSL specific maps are the same as those used in the GSL. Special thanks to MLG's Lee Chen, and to Xeph and superouman for helping out.

We have published results and build order hider versions of TSL3 maps on the NA and EU servers. To play on these maps, simply search for "TSL" on the NA or EU servers. If you see a bug or issue while playing on these maps please let us know immediately through PM on TL or email.

This TSL is sponsored by PokerStrategy.com, the world's largest poker school and community. Love the Artosis pop-up.

I know this is going to be a broken record type of thing incredibly fast, but can we hear why Artosis is only a guest while Husky is a main caster? Unless I passed out during a TL Open the other four all have precedence by having casted the qualifiers. (Edit: I also say this because when I heard Artosis talk about applying for this he seemed to be saying that he was going for the main casting gig rather than a guest role. Do we not have all the facts? I don't want to be one of those guys who just spouts off random shit without actually knowing anything.)

Regardless, I'm SO excited for this! Great maps, great players and great casters. Oh hell yeah.

Awesome!! Can't wait to see the matches. I applaud the decision to only use metalapolis & shakuras cross, it should make for some better matches on these maps.

Love that you guys got rid of scrap station as a map. I also appreciate the no close positions on metal and cross for shakuras. We should see some beautiful macro games from these amazing players. Thanks for being awesome.

EXCELLENT map pool decisions.

No major complaints about the commentators. It's not possible to have every great commentator for the TSL, so I think they made good enough choices under the restrictions at hand.

I wasn't expecting Husky, but I can understand it.

Yay husky is casting! While Day9 is the man and great at analyzing, Husky has great passion and knows how to make even less interesting games fun.

Artosis has casted every TSL we've had and we'd love if he could cast every weekend. However, he has time commitments for GSL and simply cannot cast at 4am KST every weekend without impacting his schedule there. We mentioned in the post that Artosis is taking time out of his busy schedule to cast some TSL games.

As for Husky casting the qualifiers, we tried to have him cast one but the schedules didn't work out. However, he will be available for the TSL3 main.

Epic!! Can't wait.

As much hate as Husky gets from some members I really enjoy his casting.. And considering that he will be paired with (who I think are...) more knowledgeable casters, it should work out great!

Very happy Artosis is involved too that guy is *the* pillar of non-korean starcraft.

I am so excite! AHHHHH

This sounds awesome, the casters seem pretty good, and I'm curious to see how Husky does casting with some of the more analytical casters.

The map pool was awesome too, my first thought was, "Are they using MLG style for Blizz maps?"

And then I read:

Shakuras Plateau has been edited for diagonal position play only, and Metalopolis has been edited to remove close land positions.

The map pool can't make me any happier right now! :p

So are a set of casters going to do Day 1 for example and then another set Day 2? Or are you going to have multiple casting teams for Day 1? Just curious since I didn't see it mentioned in the main post.

Everything sounds great so far.

YEAHHHHH, Best Casting of ALL tournaments by far! (just missing tasteless)

So happy to see Husky casting, just an all around great guy that seems to be bashed for doing something he loves.

Maps: WOW! A+ TSL, this tournament is going to be just amazing.

Edit: And for anyone wanting a preview of the TSL casting. Just wen't to Huskies channel looking for an announcement on this and found Day(9) and Husky casting together, they are actually have great synergy!

Husky is a passionate, entertaining commentator who rarely makes grievous errors in casting... don't understand why he would get hate. His humor is sometimes offbeat but it usually works. Good options imo.

THIS IS GOING TO BE EPIC. But I'm kinda doubtful about Husky, haven't watched his casts in a while, but he never seemed to have good game knowledge or that exciting casting, IMO.

Ehh, I guess i'll wait and see, alot of people like him so i'm prolly just hatin. Also why no kelly, she is so cute =<

I'll be the first to say I am unhappy with some of the decisions, but hopefully my concerns are unfounded. Just one person's opinion.

All I ask is that Wheat and Husky have the analytical support of either Chill or Day9 while casting.

Very nice line-up. Here is me hoping for a lot of Day9/Chill combo. I loved them during TSL2 and also loved the one qualifier they casted together. By far my favourite casting-combi.

Very curious about Husky also, I have never watched him casting a game besides Liquid 2v2v2v2 or FFA games.

The artosis gif is the best thing to ever have existed.

In slightly more related posting, I love the map pool, the blizzard maps have the right changes in my opinion. Also looks like a good mix of casters.

I really wanna see Chill get involved with MLG or NASL or WCG, something where his casting ability can be on full display. I like his style a lot and want to see him on the big stage. Plus, him and Wheat make a great team.

I personally think Day9 is a bit longwinded in his dailies, but he is a superiour commentator; 2nd to none, but maybe equal to Artosis.

DJwheat really has got THE voice, I would like some more "umph" from him, but he is really really good, one of the absolute best..

And I have nothing bad to say about Husky or Chill, Husky comes with enthusiasm and Chill wiht gameknowledge.

All in all, with the exception of tasteless there really arent any other casters that can compare to these. Maybe Catzpyjamas.

I love everything about TSL, it is truly the best of the best of everything starcraftrelated. No effort have been spared. So thank you very much for all the effort your all putting in, these comming days well be some of the best SC2 have seen yet.

Just another noob

Excellent choice of casters, though I'm slightly disappointed to not see Tasteless thrown into the mix. Oh well. The Tastosis casting archon has casted enough games in the GSL to satisfy me many lives over.

I don't care what the naysayers say, but I feel that Husky is a very entertaining caster and definitely a huge asset to the casting lineup, especially with his huge fan following. I think TSL will be a very good opportunity to introduce the Huskateers to the true world of competitive Starcraft.

Also, I can't stop laughing at the Artosis pop-up. After watching him cast the GSL quarter-finals while high on painkillers, I can definitely say that Tastosis under the influence of drugs is pure comedy gold.

Seriously, Artosis needs to cast more under the influence of painkillers. The comedy potential is infinite.

I also love the map pool. Nothing controversial about it; just good things all around. Honestly, I would internet-punch anyone who complains about this map pool since there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I always liked the Chill+Day9 combo... but lately Chill+djWheat was also good... pair them anyway you want, the casting will be great
I think that nothing stays in the way for TSL3 to be the gratest tournament ever

What do you mean "Dry Canadian humour?" Chill is freaking hilarious. I'll laugh at Day9 and Artosis casting, there will be so many cheap blows at Tasteless during the cast.

Awesome commentator combo, I was hoping Artosis would be a main caster, but I guess that's too much to ask with his schedule. Are the casting duos going to be fixed like in TSL2? I was hoping for some Chill & Day, but if they're fixed I guess it has to be one caster and one analyst per team.

Probably the best caster pool possible without somehow bringing back Cholera.

I'd like it if the caster teams were switched up once in a while. Like one week is Chill + Wheat and Day + Husky, and then the next week is Chill + Husky and Day + Wheat. And then the next week Artosis shows up.

Have you seen Tasteless involved in the community in any way since he started casting for GSL? I doubt he'd be interested to cast TSL with his busy schedule.

Hmmm, haven't heard Husky in ages. Hopefully he'll do well. The other guys I know are great^^
I like that you took out Scrap station, however what's this bottom of the ramp business? Doesn't that mean T can't wall their own base on low ground also? Heard mlg is doing the same, seems strange to me.

Considering that everyone will be talking about Husky anyway... Although I am yet to hear him do a quality job as a commentator, it is always good to add some diversity - no matter how good Day9 is, we can not have him do every single tournament. There are three proven commentators apart from him, the risk for him ruining the tournament for the viewers is relatively low. And if he does well, great.

However, TL is going to need another batch of banlings to take care of the fanboys vs haters clashes that are going to inevitably ensue. I don't envy their job, it's going to be as tough as it gets.

You guys need to stop the Husky bashing a bit. I am not a big fans of his cast but if you can't see the reason why he is in the casting team, you need to open up your mind. Having Husky cast the TSL will bring a ton of views and will make realize some of his viewers that they are a lot more casters with different styles out there.

And I would suggest that some of you go watch Husky/Day9 dual cast (I think there is 5 if I'm not mistaken) uploaded on Husky's channel. They are not bad and actually quite enjoyable. You don't need to hate as soon as you see Husky's name.

Anyway great choice on the casters and map pool, glad close pos is gone. This is going to be great!

Glad Husky is involved too, The pax showmatch series was really good with Day and Husky, made for an entertaining showmatch.

How epic would Day9 and Tastless be for casting duo, if only.

Please, please, please say Husky will be casting IdrA's match.

I know the guy is a bit hyperactive and doesn't have the most depth, but he's the one who pulled a lot of people into the scene back in beta (including myself), and as others have said his YouTube popularity is going to bring in a massive viewership.

Hiding the build order is a very nice touch. Protecting the strategies of the players.

Does that mean replays will be released only after the whole tournament is over if at all?

Best news ever!

I hate wanting to mute commentary, and there are some commentators I feel I have to do that for. Either just their voices, or the inane quality of their casts. These 5 however are just awesome, insightful, passionate. Looking forward to this so much.

And love that maps too ^_^

It's true Husky is the Internet Explorer of SC casting, but the sheer amount of exposure he can give to the TSL is invaluable. And to be honest, although his lack of analysis, his energy as color commentary is quiet decent.

Im a huge husky critic, especially for youtube casters in general, but I don't think I mind husky at all casting tsl3, huge following, really brings in the largest audience, and when you do hear him cast with day9 he does just fine. He's no artosis but he does his job to entertain. Thats just fine by me.

Also, this really shows the difference in Artosis and Tasteless i believe. We always see Artosis regularly release content for the community and he lives and bleeds blue dragoon goop. Seems like Tasteless is just going about to do his job and advance his career, which there is no shame in doing and I have absolutely no complaints about, just interesting to see the differences there.

It truly is a treat to have Artosis cast for TSL again, I think among people who have no opinion based on past casting, people really do seem to like Artosis the most, he relaly is knowledgeable and cares about the growth of starcraft, and has a wonderful voice for casting these games. Can't wait.

Most hyped for his casting. djWHEAT is a pretty good caster, although I'm less enthused about him from the perspective of strategic insight / history.

Disappointed to see Crossfire in the lineup. Would have preferred Scrap Station or an iccup map over it. Still, great maps, great casters, great prize pool, great lineup of players... Definitely looking forward to TSL kicking off.

Wicked map pool. Good to finally see an NA based tournament taking out scrap.

Not too much a fan of Husky's solo commentary but I like him in a team of two. It's really good to have him in it to expose TSL to the youtube-only audience.

Oh man, Artosis popping up in the image keeps cracking me up. Excellent list of casters, definitely lives up to the player list and scale of the tournament.

Can't wait! Going to be awesome. Map pool is decent, other than kind of tilting towards the Koreans since they exclusively practice on these maps way more than most of their european and american counterparts I'm sure. Would have been nice to see some white splashed in there, such as iCCup Testbug or something to keep the Koreans on their toes and have them also being forced to practice new maps as well.

Just my thought.

Ever since I watched the Day9 story, over the top of footage from WCG where Day9 won, I can't read
"Day9" without getting all emotional and gooey.

VERY glad to see Husky up there! The guy gets a bit of flac from the HARDCORE SC2 viewers, however without him, I have no doubt that the scene wouldn't be as big. Glad to see him get some credit!

I better warn the misses that Ima be out of action in a week.

Day and Husky have really good chemistry, not a fan of Husky's solo casts but this should be excellent.

I've actually really been enjoying this series. Husky is casting way better than I can remember him doing when I actually followed him (which, mind you, was beta and early, early launch).

I think the SC1/BW comments in the second video might soften peoples' hearts, lol. This mixed in with the rest, though, made him seem much, much more knowledgable with the game than I can recall. He's clearly put more effort into this than everyone is giving him credit for. It's so great to see that he's living up to that subscriber number.

Finally, thank you for your response Hot_Bid! I was only confused because of how I thought Artosis had been talking about it. Just miscommunication, I guess. ^_^

idk husky and day9 are 2 guys who love to talk and i feel like they dont complement each other caster-wise at all. i honestly didnt enjoy that co-cast at all; i think djwheat/day9 has more synergy where wheat is the casual friendly caster rather than husky obviously. i missed that tyler jinro game when it first came out and i ended up muting the video halfway through, the casting just felt like it wasnt natural, and they were just talking for the sake of it at times whilst not rly saying anything useful.

People should watch that video, he is quite a decent commentator, I think people just jump on the hater bandwagon too easily. Also, he is the reason why people like me are on this website, even though I have outgrown him at this stage in my SC2 development.

i think that most people will agree that hes fine as an entry lvl solo caster but thats where it should end, imo.

Nice to see TSL hasnt tried to make its own maps, or try something new, just gone with the GSL map pool (map for map i think?), which lets face it is the best map pool in the world atm.

Casting team looks awesome, you couldnt not have day9 for this, dj wheat syncs with day9 really well, Heard a bit of chill and like him. Artosis is, imo, the best caster in the world atm. hes funny and knows the game inside out. and while i dont think Husky is on the same level as the others in terms of knowledge and casting skill, his popularity will be very good for the TSL viewer numbers, happy to see him there.

TSL setting the bar high for the other western tournies of 2011. nice work

This is going to be awesome. Love the map pool. It'll be nice to see Artosis and Day9 cast together because I have never seen them cast together before. I think their combo can potentially be better than Artosis and Tasteless.

Chill and djWheat both great commentators and as for Husky I've actually never watched his casts before so I can't comment on that.

Want to reiterate I'm so happy that Artosis can commentate for this. I just went and looked at the GSL schedule and Code S finals are also on March 19. What dedication this guy shows for the game finishing up there and being a special guest at TSL.

This is probably the wrong thread for it but is there a schedule out yet? Just so I can plan my work schedule around TSL3. Thanks.

Ugg, Husky has 420,000 subscribers, and 160 MILLION hits. He arguably has done more to popularlize SC2 than ANYBODY. It makes so much sense to include him.

I think Artosis, Chill, DJ and Day[9] might agree with the late/great Cholera when he said, "I don't consider it a compliment at all when people put-down other commentators to build me up or when they say that they like me much better than so-and-so."

You like the elite commentators? I bet they'd like you to treat Husky with respect too.

I like that they included Husky. I don't like it when the community is divided because of casting preference. Honestly, just enjoy the game and appreciate the casters. I'm sure all of them love SC2 and are doing their best give the community a great show. I'm so pumped for TSL3!

I'm a bit surprised HD hasn't been mentioned as a caster, let alone in this thread. Is he simply not good enough?

Awesome, huge fan of Artosis and Chill. Artosis for obvious reasons, guys is arguably, and in my eyes, the best SC commentator/caster/whatever and Chill for his awesome BW commentaries that I used to love watching, and the guy was epic in the various grudge matches, TL VS other sites series, and of course the previous TSL's. Lots of respect for both of these guys.

I'm sorta cooling on my enthusiasm for Day9, not as big of a fan as I used to be, and DJWheat I'm sorta whatever about, Husky is as many have said, a great initial commentator for new players and beginners, but I'm not the biggest fan. Either way, its not like any of these guys are horrible, so it should be pretty awesome.

Love the casters.

Maps... for the most part yeah, but... removing horizontal positions on Shakuras? Really?* GSL maps and no close positions on meta... forty minute macro does not fun make. Just because a game is long doesn't mean it's interesting to watch. I know I'm in the minority (the reason for these maps is everyone's complaints about close positions and yadda yadda, stuff that I never minded), but I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to see players just build up and rely purely on two base timing pushes

*maybe good to do because of zerg imbalance, but I think if anything the zerg race would need to be fixed, not the maps

Anyway... this is going to be so awesome. Sooooooo many good players! Go TSL3!

This line-up looks really awesome (but I didn't expect less)!

Chill is one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to TSL3. There's way too little Chill casting going on (in general), great to see him casting a big event!

Day9, well, wouldn't be a proper tournament without him

djWHEAT is great as well and for Husky, this may very well be the breakthrough in the "serious" starcraft community, props to TL for having him (despite him being not overly popular here).

And Artosis is in my opinion the caster with the greates (and most up to date) game knowledge, really cool that he also has a part in this!!

Loving the choice of casters. The special appearance from Dan is a nice surprise as well. But actually I totally agree with Shindigs, get this thing produced into a high quality DVD. Throw in some additional content with the DVD like replays (qualifiers and the actual event) and interviews.Id totally buy it.

One comment on Husky though: Although i really am not a fan anymore , i kinda hope that he does very well(i hear hes improved a lot) and this could be a bridge between sc2 communities maybe? Anyway, look at it positively!

Keep the hype up! I love it. I love the map choice, definitely shouldn't be too many (if any) games that are so strongly decided by map positions =). And of course a legendary casting lineup for an equally legendary tournament. (not sure how I feel about husky. I have nothing against him I just don't think him when I think TSL (not that anyone can compete with chill, wheat, day, artosis, ....))

but nonetheless!!

I'm pretty interessting how the big maps change the playstyle.

We have published results and build order hider versions of TSL3 maps on the NA and EU servers

i don't get it

This means that these maps show neither build orders nor the results when being played over battle.net. Which is great, because that way the results won't be spoiled by the players' match histories!

Now for those complaining about Husky, go watch the PAX-games he casted with day9. They can all be found on day9's blip page.

I was never a big fan of Husky before watching those games but they acually got me to change my mind. Also concidering it's the first time he and Day casted together I thought they did very good.

Various caster combos should make for a grand old time. I hope the audio quality/mix is up to par.

The maps are far better than the Blizzard 1v1 map pool, that's for sure, BUT, I feel like they give a heavy advantage to players living in Korea, who have been practicing and playing on the GSL maps for months. I just think it's too heavily GSL based. I would have preferred "Shattered Temple" to "Crossfire RE". At least then your ratio of "everybody plays" maps to "custom maps" would be 4:3, instead of the other way around. The Americans/Europeans sheer lack of map experience is going to give them a heavy disadvantage. I fear that they're gonna get clobbered on the GSL maps, and that's a real shame, because many are looking to TSL3 to get a good sense of how the Korean scene compares to the foreign scene.

Frekaing nice job with the casters and the far better map pool then on the ladder.

I'm sure TL have their reasons, but I think only including large maps and editing out close positions on the few maps that have them is kinda lame..

A varied map pool is better than one full of only 'macro maps'. Terrans will also be disadvantaged by these changes.

The ultimate casting combo. We have everything, analysis, snarky humour, "slapstick" humour and all-round general awesomeness. Maps are all HUGE, very very pumped to see how this will reflect on the tourney's metagame.
Damn, this is gonna be better than GSL.

Excellent map pool and great casters. The only improvements I could see is removing metal for shattered or typhon, but thats just a personal preference. With the line up of players already announced this TSL should be awesome.

Umm he was saying husky is underrated. He was casting with day 9 and hence is on day9's archives...

This makes me super excited, although I would love to see Day9 and Tasteless cast together. Being the Starcraft nubile that I am I must inquire as to whether or no that has ever happened. Inquiry: has it?

This should be a great tournament. The map pool looks great, especially with the modifications for metalopolis.

personallly i don't really like husky casting pro starcraft leagues like this since he's really good at making the game entertaining but not as much in depth analysis like day9 and tastosis. Anyway, hope it is going to be a good tournament since it has many top koreans.

Pretty cool map pool, although a part of me had hoped for Testbug. I just love that map.

Casting team seems very good as well. Not sure about Husky since I usually don't watch his videos/casts, but I guess his passion and e-fame will attract a lot of viewers, wich can only be a good thing.

I was very very shocked to see Husky in the caster pool, but it honestly doesn't matter too much since he did pretty well when casting with Day9 in the recent Liquid showmatches.

Feeling very optimistic about it!

Yeah people really going over board with the"eeeehh Husky??" Shitfest I dont like his solo casts, because he is all over the place, but put him in a duo, with a pro player and it works great because he is on track. I loved him on the MLG and also the HDH casting was great.

He puts energy and the funzzies in a cast.
I am gonna get so much flak for this, but he is perfect for the Tasteless role in a casting duo. The funny guy with some game knowledge. [I know, I know Nick used to be a pro player]

Really good to see Husky not giving up on the TL community

good casters. Including husky was a really mature and intelligent move by TL.

Map pool i like slightly less. They're all fucking huge maps except XNC. One or two more XNC size would have been good i think, possibly shattered temple or something similar.

The map pool is kinda meh. While the maps may be good (except for Crossfire , which I don't think is good at all), it's just so Korean biased. EU/NA players will have such a hard time competing on the GSL maps against Koreans who trained these maps hardcore for over a month. Would have loved to see one or two iCCup maps, or maybe Shattered Temple or Typhoon Peaks just to make it fair.
I fear that because of this EU/NA players will get roflstomped and we will not find out how skilled they really are compared to Koreans.

Other than that I can't complain of course. Nice casters and sick lineup, should be fun to watch.

I am really happy to see Chill on that list, he is not one of the big names when he it comes to commentating but I must say he is really good at it. I disslike having Husky in there though. Husky might be good at making funny vidoes etc but his casting/game knowledge is pretty terrible and it does not belong in TSL in my opinion.

Many ppl here to TL might not like him he is for sure one of the most popular caster out there.

It's a nightmare...
Am I the only one thinking that the map pool is totally unfair for players from US and EU server?

Ciara, ThorZain, Strelok, Adel, qxc, White-ra, Morrow, Goody, HasuObs, Nightend, Fenix doesn't train 10 hours per days on these map like other are doing....

They will be crushed lol, it will be a pure massacre... Kind funny for viewers and commentators, kind weird and very sad for players that spend a lot of time trying to qualify for TSL3.

I was thinking to myself "sweet commentators and nothing too exciting about the map pool, save the amazing Terminus RE, but its as good as it could be I suppose...."

Then I saw this "Shakuras Plateau has been edited for diagonal position play only, and Metalopolis has been edited to remove close land positions. The bottom of ramps have been modified to prevent easy walling with buildings. ", and I almost cried with tears of joy! Not spawning close positions is going to have to become standard, its such a ridiculous situation to be in. Even more pumped now!

The candidate map pool has been known for a long time, so I really don't think you can say its unfair because if you really care about the biggest foreign SC2 tournament to date you'll find practice partners and get the practice time in..

If the players don't know how to play on these maps they only have themselves to blame.

Khaldor and Ipp from Ragequit TV are also very good casters i wouldn't mind seeing them cast 1 or more series . So shakuras is basically a 2 players map in this tournament ? I'ts going to be interesting . I hope all the players get informed so that some players won't have a scouting advantage over the other .

Husky being a main caster bothered me a bit at first, but then I thought that if paired up with a more knowledgeable caster they could probably make a good combo. And he's probably going to double the popularity of the tournament.

Incredibly hyped by this point. TL doing what TL does best and shows everyone how it's done.

This tournament could be all bronze league players and still be good because of the commentators.
This is going to be epic.

I like Husky he is one of 4 casters and the people at TL realise that he will add another personality and dimension to their tournament, cant wait for it to kick off

whose idea was it to employ husky here? If I wanted to get yelled at by a moron who has no idea what they're talking about, I'd visit my grandparents in a nursing home. looks like i'm out for the TSL. a shame, too. I was excited

If that's the sole reason you won't watch the whole tournament then I guess noone will care, at all.

I like the choice to include Husky in the caster lineup, not that much of a fan myself, but it will draw much more attention to the TSL and he also just feels like a good addition to the other 3 awesome casters

Husky is pure fun and silliness. He is an excellent choice to get some life into it and he rounds the team. And he will never cast a game alone. And his screaming is way less annoying than the screaming in the clash of the titans showmatch.

But Haters gonna Hate. Go Husky !

I was never a fan of Husky but him casting the PAX series with Day9 was actually pretty good so I'm not bothered by the idea of Husky casting nearly as much as I would have been had I not watched those 2 series.

yeah, tbh, I highly doubt I will watch if I have to hear husky's voice. I like analysis from my castings. I much prefer to listen to a caster who can provide insight and depth to the game, rather than just narrating what is happening on my screen, which I can see with my own eyes. I really can't stand husky at all, considering he was the only caster i knew of for quite some time, primarily because when he does analyze the game, it's usually broad, overgeneralized statements about 'x hard-countering y' or something to that effect, when the game is not that simple. give me a caster who actually understands the pro game, please.

I know this was said earlier too, but the dualcast with Day9 and Husky for PAXEast showmatches was really enjoyable. If you are a Husky hateboy, go listen those and rethink your opinion. He even got some stuff in cast that Day9 missed, making the dualcast cover the game better than solocast.

Personally I love the casting team, and most likely all the permutations of casters will do justice to the games played.

NOTHING wrong with Husky and Day[9] dualcast I think (and most will agree) that they did an awesome job.

I dont think people have to worry about EU/NA players lack of practice on these maps, I just checked map history of these players and they all mass games on those maps:
EmpireKas, LiquidTLO, qxc, DuckloadRa, nAni, ESCGoOdy, SjoW, PraeThorZaIN, mouzMorroW and ONECrunCher

Wow fantastic line up of casters! Husky usually isn't my thing but he's been improving a lot lately and is definitely a community favorite so his addition is definitely a good thing.

Also the map pool is perfect. Metal, Shakuras, and XNC are the three best Blizzard maps and close positions were the only things that made for bad games on these maps.

Gonna be an epic tournament! Between the players and casters, we really have the tip top of the SC2 community involved in this tournament. So excited!

Not sure any of the new ladder maps are good enough to belong in this map pool. Maybe Typhon Peaks...but it's hard to know with so little player experience on these maps. Metal and Shakuras have been around forever, and XNC was a hit as soon as it showed up on the ladder.

Backwater Gulch and Slag Pits are garbage. Shattered Temple is ok, but kind of boring. These are the right maps to go with TL couldn't have done a better job.

The perfect caster team would be Day[9], Artosis, Tasteless and Chill.

No matter how you shuffle the pairs, its always good combo. Too bad Tastosis is too busy with GSL.

Husky?Seriously? Thats pretty disappointing stuff folks. We are talking about the best thing ever happened to online gaming that is tsl, and you created it. Who cares about the 500k subs or w/e is the number, tsl was always about quality. Its not like there are not casters, there are tons of them

Nice! I'm even more excited for the TSL now after this announcement. And I am happy to see they have invited Husky to come and cast. His game knowledge may not be top tier but his enthusiasm for it is right there up at the top. I also look forward to him bringing his fan base along with him for some good education (If you think his game knowledge is lacking reading the youtube comments is even more... wow). It took me randomly finding this site to really start learning about the game (and still learning) so hopefully the addition of Husky will add even more pathways to learning for many more casual fans of the game.

Hmmm i really dislike husky's casting... he has really nothing of value to add to casts imo except for random sillly crap that has nothing to do with the matches. However, he will probably bring thralls of noobs to TL to catch the games he casts so that's pretty great. Probably will just skip his casts regardless. All the other casters Im fairly happy to see, Chill and Artosis XD nerd chills at the thought of such epic and well versed commentators. Map pool is really good looking , as well as the mods that were made to the Blizzard maps. All in all I am very excited for this tournament and hope TL gets some HUGE HUGE numbers on the streams.

Actually it started with Husky long time ago, but I agree that the whole song and dance is old. If you don't like watching them cast then just don't watch, I'll download replays Husky, HD cast, and mute code A VoD's. Easier then bitching to nobody. Plus I'm sure TL will post replays for the tournament eventually anyways.

Husky is a little bit of a surprise. Then again, the guy will draw in all of his peeps. So, I guess it really isn't. It's a trade off more than anything else.

Good exposure for TL and himself.

How can people honestly expect Artosis AND Tasteless to cast TSL. Have you not heard of a little thing called the GSL? Common sense people!
I was surprised myself to see Artosis being featured in the lineup, but I guess it's just thanks to his pure dedication to SC2 that he has taken some time out of his busy schedule to help out. Extremely grateful for that.
Also cool to see Husky in the lineup. I didn't even think of the possible extra exposure Husky might bring to TSL, I just thought 'oh wow that's cool!' - it'll add a bit of extra fun to the casts. Also, I too am a big fan of the Day9+Husky combo. Looking forward to it!

The whole husky bashing is getting really old. He gets along just fine with all the other casters and has dual casted with day9 a few times already.

Every time someone even mentions husky a few people just freak out and start acting like kids arguing about which console is better or PC vs. consoles.

Looking forward to the matches, hopefully all the contenders will give us a good show along with the casters.

The real problem with Husky is that he talks way too much, once he starts, it will take like 1 minute for him to give a chance to the co-caster input his thoughts.

I hope he improves that, otherwise TSL games casted by him will be really annoying to listen Husky talk talk talk;

No offense but having a lot of energy and passion does not change the fact that he knows very little about the game and the fact that he is overall a bad caster. Like I said before, Husky is great for the community and he is good a what he does (making videos, promoting stuff etc), casting isn't one of them and in my opinion a tournament with the best of the best should have the best casters.

That is the first time I heard of him as well. He did the "expert" roll with another co-caster (what was his name?). I remember his mic was bad and he had a dog barking in the background. That tournament was amazing!

Artosis casting is ungodly. Best caster of all time. No one can compete....at all.

Good thing it says "and the first two TSLs" and not "and first the TSL". It also doesn't say he "first moved into casting".

Good thing there isn't a definitive list of what makes a good caster. On my list, having a lot of energy and passion are number 1 and 2. On yours they aren't.

I dunno why people are freaking out about Husky. Since these games are being dual-cast Husky can do the play-by-play while his partner does the high level analysis. I'm not even a fan of Husky but all the whining about casters is getting old. Here's a solution: press the mute button.

Really excited to see this list. Loved the Husky/Day9 pairing a few days ago; would really love to see a Husky/Artosis and Husky/Chill pairing.

Would also like to see an Artosis/Day9 team cast a ZvT so that they can taunt each other mercilessly about the Broodwar days =)

Great choices all around by TeamLiquid.

I just watched the Husky/Day9 cast of the Jinro vs Tyler game. I really don't think he is as bad as everyone is saying. Yes his knowledge of the game does pale in comparison to Day9 and Artosis. But like so many other people have stated all you need to do is pair him up with a knowledgeable caster.

I don't think that people should really complain about the casters. And if you are not going to watch the TSL just because of Husky I think that is your loss because this tournament looks amazing. Everything about the tournament is top-notch. The best players from all around the world, good map pool (but I agree there should be one more Xel'Naga sized map) and amazing group of casters. The only thing that will ruin this tournament is my work schedule

I think everyone complaining about Husky should realize that he probably has the biggest fanbase of any SC caster right now. While i understand that people think he isn't a deep analytical guy, that's why they have Artosis and Day9. If you enjoy Starcraft at all you should't complain because Husky casting will bring a vast number of "husketeers" which will give even more exposure to TSL3 (not that it needs it).

Plus, how could you not like his enthusiasm? It's infectious.

Ofcause it is to get more viewer but you make it sound like thats bad...? Thats what a sponsored tournament is all about.

Well I don't like him much as a caster as well as many other TLers. And to be honest I really didn't expect him to be one of casters.

On the other hand if it brings more viewers, that means sponsors will be happier, that means potential for other big tournaments in future. So it's probably good thing.

Great map choices. I think we'll see awesome games. We have a good mix of casters who bring different personalities to the game. Looking forward to the TSL3!

Also, can we stop with the Husky bashing? People should see his recent casts with Day9. He's improved a lot.

Husky have gotten better and better.

While i dont listen to his casts frequently, i'm very happy that he is able to have this chance so he might become even a better caster. <3

The real problem with YOU is that you're uninformed, and just assumes thing because you have seen him dual cast almost a decade ago (slightly extravagated). Again, watching the pre-mentioned Haypro versus TLO game and Tyler versus Jinro showmatch would be a good start for a good judgement. I'm getting so sick of people critizing someone because he was performing in a certain manner some couple friggin months back and not even listening to somehting more recent to update your judgement.

Why do you think I'm basing this off some old games Husky dual-casted?

I admit I don't watch any of Husky's casts, so I don't know if he is improving or not. What I said was based exactly on Jinro vs Tyler games when very often I found myself wishing Husky to hurry up his comments so Day9 could have space to talk.

I'm not saying Husky is a bad caster or have little game knowledge or anything like that. I'm just saying he could leave to his co-caster a little bit more of space.

I dont get u guys, Wheat is great comentator i would put him over every other caster on the list. I know it kinda depands on what you like and need. I for example dont need anyone to explain me whats going on in game, therfore i prefere someone who will keep me entertained, like TB or Wheat.

The most important thing to me is camera movement, who will be in charge of this? One of the casters, someone else? Apologies if that was answered earlier, i must heve missed it, if thats the case.

More space? I personally was under the impression that Day9 wanted to talk a little bit too much at times..

I think it's just that you like hearing day9 more and just want other casters to talk as little as possible :p

And, my bad insinuating that you based it off old videos, but your post made it sound like you did.

I'm glad for the mixture, I prefer casters that entertain and commentate more on the action. So there 's for everyone a bit . TotalBiscuit or Khaldor would have been nice...but well, even so: HYPE!

really liking the map pool. it's good that we're not going to have the issue of imbalanced maps or spawns influencing the outcome of the tournament. and since you're removing close spawn from metalopolis, why not use shattered temple and remove close spawns from there, too?

and super super surprised by husky. it's a pleasant surprise. sure he may not be the most analytical caster, but he doesn't pretend to be. it'll be fun to have some of that fun, obnoxious husky humor and enthusiasm thrown into the casts.

man i'm looking forward to this. a major sc2 tournament that i don't have to pay/stay up for.

Why would anyone care? Husky has an enormous YT following for a reason. And yes, those BW elitists who can't stand anyone who doesn't follow all Korean events and stuff will always treat those who enjoy his casts as "worse" kind of SC enthusiasts. Again, who cares?

I really feel sorry who are delivered awesome free content and are still only able to find flaws in it. While we enjoy the casts they will have to resort to watching it with sound off or not watching at all.

I am extremely excited for this tournament. I love the format, the players, the casters and the overall organization. The only thing that prevents me from fainting from joy and anticipation is the thought of which server these games will be played upon. Sadly, server plays a big deal and I've seen examples of games marred because players are significantly hindered by lag. I hope this doesn't become the case for the TSL and we get to see the best players play to the best of their abilities.

I'm sorry but what's wrong with Husky? I just listened to him at day9tv cast a match with Jinro and Tyler. He didn't seem to be lacking in knowledge or any of the other complaints we've been receiving. In fact, he seemed to be more than holding his own. I mean even in terms of the play by play, he seems to be able to say a lot more than tasteless, if that counts for anything.

Superb map pool. You guys really stepped it up by making such intelligent modifications to the ladder maps. We're definitely going to see some epic macro games. With the greatest commentators ever we're definitely going to be entertained.

So excited for this. Thank you TL.

For anyone doubting Husky, check out his commentary with Day9 on the Pax Liquid showmatch. They work great together.

I can't wait for TSL3. Its easily gonna be the best gage of how foreigners do against top Koreans. I think we are in for some truly epic matches.

loved to see Husky in the casting crew, this shows the great recognition hes getting from the SC community. I also liked the day9/husky casting in the liquid showmatches.
So I think this will be awesome
Can't wait for this TSL!!!

Why did husky get brought to cast tsl3? and not someone else like HD or another caster? is it because hes got a larger fanbase on YT to help spread the word of TSL3?

IMO, watching tournys are supposed to fun and educating, not just 'fun'. i watched the showmatch between Tyler and Jinro but i didnt like it much. Games were good but it seemed to be dumbed down. But its just my opinion.
TBH it surprised me when i saw who was casting it.

Maybe because Husky has done more behind the SC2 scenes helping out the other casters then anybody else And because he can make an absolutely boring game a magnicient sight to behold.

Very excited about all of this. Great lineup of casters which will surely make this one of the best tournaments for Sc2 to watch, if not the best.

I'm glad to see Artosis as a guest caster as well, I think it would be pretty awesome if we could get Tastless to do some guest casting as well just because of how awesome that would be to possibly have Tastosis guest casting some of this. But regardless, any combination of the main casters is really going to be something amazing to listen to. Can't wait.

I'm pumped for this... but these maps are making me starting to hate the TSL......

Metal with no close positions: /highfive
Xel'Naga: Always awesome map.
Shakuras with only cross positions: ???? I suspect this might give some good games, but games where both players blind fast expand, with no fear till the 10 minute mark.

/rantmode
4 GSL maps: Ok they are possibly good maps... but FOUR of em? For anyone not in Korea, this means that you pretty much have to play Metal, Xel and Shakuras... While trying to practice for 3 other maps outside of korea... Seeing the current status of in house training outside of Korea, we might as well roll out the carpet for the korean invites.

Are any of the Blizzard maps much better? Probably not. But if I was a European or American player qualified for this tournament, I'd be sitting at home praying I invested my practice wisely.

Awesome work TL - Husky and Day9 make a really good combo and then Chill and Wheat; why so gosu TL!?

And the map pool!? Awesome; with the modifications as well; it's awesome to see you guys taking some initiative to try ensure the better players wins.. The GSL maps provided some epic games which can hopefully be recreated in this TSL

We all appreciate Artosis's effort

Have to agree with this one.
I would rather prefer Shattered Temple + ICCup Testbug instead of Crevasse and Terminus RE.

So pretty much the MLG pool. (I like Scrap Games as well)

I also think that all the map modifications will be favoring Zerg too much. In addition to the recent buffs for zerg we have the larger GSL maps (good for zerg) plus no close spawns and no wallin bottom of ramp. That is too much rebalancing at the same time.
LosirA won Code A, zergs owned at Assembly + IEM. TSL could be an even bigger zerg ownage.

Excellent choices. I could complain that the map pool is kinda boring, but that's not really much of a valid criticism. It could have Jungle Basin and Steppes in it, which would make it a shit map pool. So it's anything but. It's a very safe map pool, which is probably the best choice.

This casting team is dirty, just dirty, its probably good they don't also have Tasteless because if they did it would be too perfect and every SC2 nerd's brain would explode.

i always looked at it as if artosis and day9 provide the analytical commentary while husky and wheat provide the color commentary, with chill falling somewhere in the middle of those 2 groups. just how ive seen it at least. looking forward most to artosis + wheat combo though, but overall i think most combinations should be interesting as they have shown in the past.

I saw the Day9/Husky cast and my view remains unchanged, not a fan of Husky's. Chill, Artosis, Day9, and Tasteless are my favorites.

Haven't heard enough casting by Wheat to form much of an opinion yet.

Also, to those saying "Husky is being picked to bring in his viewer base" I would say that's not a good enough reason to bring him on board. Klazart had a fairly massive number of viewers but TL would never bring him in to cast a TSL. I don't think Husky is as bad as Klaz but the point still stands, the number of viewers a caster has shouldn't influence his/her selection for TSL. Their casting ability and knowledge of the game should be the sole factors.

I am SO pumped for this. The best and most known players in the world, nailbiting brackets, a formidable and fair mappool and to round it all up, fantastic casters.
I mean it's a perfect blend if analytical and entertaining casters, which makes it educational and funny at the same time.
Thinking about the Wheat/Husky duo still leaves me with a big questionmark over my head, but I like being pleasantly surprised.

Like everyone else, I double-took at "Husky."

...But I just watched him cast with Day9... Yeah he doesn't have the knowledge, but honestly, all a caster really needs to do is have a solid voice and be able to talk about what's on the screen.

Day9 provides the necessary analysis, Husky does the Tasteless-style "this is what's happening." It works. Can't hate.

Even if he was picked just off his viewer base its a very smart decision. He has over 400k subscribers. He makes one video announcing TSL3 and promotes it in his casts leading up to and throughout TSL3 and there are going to be a ton more viewers. No doubt about it. You can't ignore that.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Day9/Husky cast, they worked extremely well together, shared their talking well, each was able to see things the others didn't to keep us informed even if the screen wasn't focused on it. Plus Husky said the right things. There wasn't anything too in depth from him, but what he was saying was correct.

Not having Husky cast TSL3 would be a huge mistake by TL because he is one of the biggest faces in the scene right now, whether you like it or not.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pls no husky:S

I hope he will cast as few games as possible, cause i have to watch those without sound:S
Although i know he has a lot of fans, i'm pretty sure he has a lot of haters as well. I mean, all the other casters are like: a lot of ppl love them, and maybe a few hates them, but Husky has such a stupid voice (imho), and I should have never seen how he looks like IRL :S (although i constantly try to forget it )
Seriously, why???
Wheat is ok i guess, other 3 are awesome.

the husky hate is pretty funny considering most of the criticism comes from people who started watching sc because of him, and now half a year later they're all pros on the game and husky's commentary sucks all of a sudden/it's for nubs.

L O L, only it's quite sad to see such disrespect, regardless of husky's arguable shortcomings or overgrowth of his casting style by spectators.

husky is a superb choice, since he brings the necessary entertainment value to the casting team, and to be frank, for pure entertainment value there's only tasteless and husky to be had, yet a. tasteless is a pretty busy man, and b., even if he wasn't, it's too much homegenity since he's been casting with day9 and tosis everywhere they had the chance.

chill and day9 are pretty funny too, but they're very analytical. wheat is pretty boring, though very professional.

the tl guys knew exactly what they were doing, and made an amazing (pr) choice, bringing a very popular caster, and bringing much needed diversity on the casting side to match the diversity on the player side

Exactly what are you basing that on? Think before you speak.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of Husky in any sense of the word and rarely do I find myself talking about him. I'll have you know, Husky has no influence on me with regards to what I choose to watch. BW reached it's holy grail before Husky came onto the scene. It's foolish to speak for others when you have no connection to them whatsoever.

I've been here since day 1. It might be a whole different story for you, but that's mine. Speak for yourself, not for everyone else.

'most', which is a very well defined pronoun: for those who agree with the user, it means "all the criticism", but if someone disagrees, it means "a high percentage of the criticism".

In short, 'most' in that sentence was just a diplomatic way of discrediting everyone who disagrees with him.

Btw i watched a few Husky commentaries in the beginning of the beta, cause i had no account. And at first it was decent. My problem was, that when he got a ton of subscribers, he became cocky, and irritating.

edit: important fact - i do agree husky's not among the very best commentators out there, but i believe his selection for the tsl was a very good decision, even though i personally am not a fan of his, and there could have been 1 or 2 better choices to put up against chill day and artosis (who are the magic trio of awesome). my argument wasn't about that

i said -most-, and this has nothing to do with bw, and yes, while i didn't specify 2 when mentioning starcraft, i think 1. it's pretty self-explanatory since we're talking about a sc2 caster, and 2. a fuckton of people picked up on bw coming from sc2 so ye, the guy has had an influence on that too, albeit indirect

what i base it on is the 200k subs husky and hd had before almost all other casters ever hit the scene (ofcourse, except the big guns of bw) combined with most of the haters here being around 10-500 posts, which is sc2 beta and onward join date of teamliquid, do the math. that's about a solid a data pool one can get to gauge caster influence on the scene

i'm a bw guy, and husky/hd have never been my cookie (even though i did use to watch casts of theirs pre-release mostly), and i've been following the sc2 scene hardcore since day 1 as well since i got a beta key, and i joined tl on the new wave even if i've been aware of this site for years, so i get your feeling perfectly.

however, people need to show some respect for the huge contribution husky and hd brought to the popularizing of the game and growth of the scene [+ add my previous post]. criticism is ok, individual taste is everyone's right, but you'd think tl's philosophy would be clear enough for people to be able to see the line between flaming and productive argumentation and not cross it so shamelessly, especially when the hypocrisy of a large segment of those people is blatantly obvious just by looking at the numbers and gauging probability. the argument should be clear now ?

ps specifically for startstruck, since his reply bothered me:
+ Show Spoiler +
you need to relax and stop taking things so personally, and note repeating 'think before you speak' in the context of your tone and of the subject at hand expresses not pathos but patheticism. i respect others' points of view inherently and i made no (intentionally([this post should clear up the confusion] offensive arguments in my previous post, so you might want to reconsider being so laughably snobbish in your expression next time your emotions get the best of you

I'm kinda disappointed with the choice if the casters :/ (well, with one of em)
it would of been cool if they got a pro that didnt make it in to cast. or mabye even artosis, that would have been the highlight of the year, but whatever, qualitiy's not gonna be as high as I expected it to be, too bad :/

SC2 players are some of the whiniest people i have encounterd on the internet, if there was 99 top notch casters for TSL and 1 "bad" caster, then people would still cry about that 1 caster instead of realising there is 99 good ones. Stop being so greedy, you cant have everything you want and the world is not perfect and never will be.

Amazing lineup, however (my opinion only), Husky feels out of place here a little bit.

I am not trolling or being mean, I just mean that I have a hard time listening to a caster that doesn't have qualifications in my book. Qualifications mean that you have to be on the level of games that you cast and commentate on. Husky is a low diamond player himself, and a few videos of him (complaining infested marine spam is unstoppable?) degrade his image in my eyes.

I just feel like the long awaited TSL3 is of much higher caliber.

Maybe others feel differently, maybe being a good vocalist of a commentator is reason enough.

When the 1 bad caster can easily be avoided that's when people complain. I don't like Husky's casting but that's not gonna stop me from watching TSL3. I'll just mute it when he's casting like I'm sure the majority of others that don't like him will do. I understand from a "marketing" perspective why they got Husky since his subs "should" generate more eyeballs on the stream. I don't blame them one bit for that. It is what it is.

Gretorp for example, or Incontroll, I'm sure there are people who have both indepth knowledge of the game and are decent at commentating. I can understand why TL wants more popular commentators (DjWheat) over others which would possibly provide a product more appealing to a crowd of people that is above average in terms of "skill", but really, why did you guys have to pick Husky?
I've admittedly only heard him cast once or twice, maybe it's due to my preference of a calmer style of casting, but the impression I got was that he's a beyond awful caster.

this is the best map pool I've seen for a tournament this sounds spectacular, caster choice is also, in my opinion, the best that you guys could choose. husky draws a lot of flak from teamliquidians, but hes a good caster, if maybe not on par with day9 or chill, and he will draw in a lot of additional viewers. I'm even more pumped for this than I was before, and I didn't think that was possible!

all the folks here acting like you need to be in top 200 to be able to talk about the game... think about the other sports, the caster is there mainly for general information and to entertain the viewers. i love all the casters invited to TSL

btw Chill what's your ladder rank ?

I really don't understand the Husky whinery. It almost seems that some people don't like him because he has too many subscribers, or that he is too mainstream or whatever. And nobody even seems to have valid arguments to support. Please watch the Day9/Husky dual cast for PAX and tell me honestly that it is bad and that you would rather put it on mute.

Why are some of the TL people acting like elitist spoiled children ? And I don't say that everybody should like Husky, but if you are going to not agree with the choice, please bring some evidence instead of the usual "uhuhu Husky no knowledge".

I apologise if I didn't sufficietly clarify that my post only displays my opinion on the matter. TSL is going to be great no matter what, I am merely of the opinion that it could be even better and hence voicing my concerns about something that, in my opinion, could be improved.

Husky and DjWheat will tell you that they don't have the game knowledge of the other casters. However, is it really necessary for all of the casters to have in-depth tactical knowledge of the game? In just about every sports cast on the planet you have the play-by-play(Husky, Wheat, Tasteless) and the color commentator(Day9, Artosis, Chill). Why is it with starcraft, there is this need for both casters to play both roles? Personally, I find that if you have to two analytical casters together, it can often lead to a rather dull cast. That balance between entertainment/excitement and in-depth analysis creates a better production.

Great map pool and casters that cover just about the widest spectrum of casting style I could think of. A+++ event in the making.

Husky has too little knowledge. But that doesn't have to be an issue per se. The issue is that he rambles too fast, to the point where it's almost impossible to hear what he says. And he thinks it's the 'husky show' instead of sc2 commentary. There are much better options available.

Watch Husky and Day[9] cast the Jinro vs Tyler games. Husky knows enough to commentate the game and he's good at giving Day[9] enough time to analyze the game (even if Husky doesn't do it purposely )

Thousands of people seem to paint their opinions like it was the only one, weird.. Maybe it just isn't? Maybe for a good reason?

Husky is known for being bad at the game and lacking game knowledge. He's also known for his bronze league viewership and his rivalry with IdrA. The majority of TL though, as far as I can tell, has got quite a decent level of play and would prefer quality casters over bullshitting casters.

Sure there are people that just want to relax when watching a replay, but that's not worth inviting Husky and hence ruining the TSL for many people (at least for me it was quite an upset). But seriously, they can watch other stuff if they're not interested in high level stuff anyways.

You say you don't need great ingame knowledge to make an entertaining cast. Now it's you painting your opinion like it was the only one. IMO you do need excellent game understanding to be entertaining. For me it's not entertaining listening to stuff like "He's pulling probes off the line!!!" or "Currently there are 2 medivacs flying across the map" - saying "uhm" would contain the same amount of information given that you are not blind.

And about the stuff with pros casting. You did watch gsl 2 (I think it was), right? Where Tastosis dropped out and they had some korean guy casting together with some pros like IdrA etc. Those casts were amazing, although they've never cast before.

TL made the wrong decision in my opinion, but I guess I will just have to put up with it. Too bad.

I doubt you have watched a game cast by Husky in the last few months, except possibly Jinro vs Tyler. Husky will draw in more viewers, which is good for the scene. Besides this, even if his game knowledge isn't on par with Day9, Chill, or DjWheat, he has cast enough games to get a respectable amount of game knowledge. Its not like your listening to Husky cast every game by himself in any case. More than enough people have expressed their opinions of Husky, why not discuss the maps or something else related?

Did you just try to discredit Husky by talking up a cast with Jason Lee? Jason Lee never even played the game and was perfectly able to run a good cast. Just unreasonable hate imo.

Did you just try to discredit Husky by talking up a cast with Jason Lee? Jason Lee never even played the game and was perfectly able to run a good cast. Just unreasonable hate imo.

Jason Lee tried to be good at it, though. And people also knew he was just standing in for Tastosis so it wasn't that big of a deal, because eventually we'd get the better casters back. The guys he had with him, the pros, made up for the lack of game knowledge.
Out of the 4 casters you picked only one, Day9, got great game knowledge so I'm not sure how you gonna arrange it so that everyone feels satisfied. We'll see.

it would of been cool if they got a pro that didnt make it in to cast. or mabye even artosis, that would have been the highlight of the year, but whatever, qualitiy's not gonna be as high as I expected it to be, too bad :/

Like who? You're suggesting we get someone who is good at the game, but has never casted before, to cast?

Gretorp for example, or Incontroll, I'm sure there are people who have both indepth knowledge of the game and are decent at commentating. I can understand why TL wants more popular commentators (DjWheat) over others which would possibly provide a product more appealing to a crowd of people that is above average in terms of "skill", but really, why did you guys have to pick Husky?
I've admittedly only heard him cast once or twice, maybe it's due to my preference of a calmer style of casting, but the impression I got was that he's a beyond awful caster.

And there are people who don't need indepth knowledge of the game to make an entertaining cast. There are also people who don't need to hear indepth knowledge of the game. You prefer Gretorp, I prefer Husky.

Don't paint your opinion like it's the only one.

Why did we have to pick Husky? I'm not the TSL organizer, but I would assume they chose the 4 who they thought would give the best overall product.

Too bad.

Husky isn't known for any of that. He is known as one of the most popular casters in all of eSports. People complain about his game knowledge and skill. His game knowledge is much better than he gets credit for. And about the bronze league viewership, one its much wider than that, and two, can't people in the bronze league watch the TSL3? I mean, isn't that a good thing, to get them interested in the pro scene? Maybe it will inspire them to be better, or to come to TL and join, or just get into the scene by watching more pro tournaments.

And what the fuck is he supposed to say when he's casting when probes get pulled off the line? Every fucking caster says the same things. Do you know the job of a caster? Have you watched any sport before. Guy strikes out in baseball and you here Joe Buck say he strikes out. Then they add analytical stuff in.

You don't need to be great at the game or have incredible game knowledge to be a caster. Was Joe Buck ever a great baseball or football player? Nope. Sure his knowledge is pretty good now after years of being in the booth, but he got there because he knows how to cast.

Wow.
You can't be serious. Having 1 out of 4 casters whom you do not like is ruining the TSL?
Fuck. I hope you're not this demanding in real life.

Ruining the TSL, how much of a joke is this statement. Like some kid at christmas, receiving 4 gifts and disliking one of them, then claiming that christmas is ruined.

I think the casting team is great and well-chosen. People need to realize the TSL is more than a tournament - it's also a show, and in order to keep a show exiting, you need entertainers. Chill and DJWheat are fantastic analytical casters, then they selected Husky for entertainment value, and Day[9] because he's probably the best all-around caster on the scene right now in terms of providing both fantastic analysis and great humor.

I'm not gonna lie though. I was really hoping for Stargirl T_T

I'll admit when I saw the options I thought Husky was out of place, but then after watching the Tyler vs. Jinro showmatch he did with Day9 (I haven't watched him for a long time), he seemed like he had improved somewhat on the OHMYGODEXCITEMENTTALKINGFAST front. Apart from a few times he kind of went off on a completely unrelated tangent, I think he did pretty well. Great team of casters overall, really excited for this TSL.

That is a very good post. Husky has improved drastically from a couple months ago. You can see it in his casts. People are calling him out for things that he said months ago. He clearly has put a lot of effort in to improving his game knowledge. Its still not amazing, but its much better and his observing skills have gotten better. He worked really well with Day9. I was impressed.

If you can only play with all four gifts at once, then the gift you dislike is pretty much going to spoil the experience.

It's funny how people complain about how casters have more fans that players and that the emphasis needs to be on the players not casters, yet complain and say the casters are ruining the TSL even though its some of the best players in the world playing. I thought the emphasis was supposed to be on the players? Hmmm

You are probably right.
Maybe Husky can somehow win me over, it's been a while since I last watched him and Chill and djWHEAT are decent casters anyways and day9 is dayJ.

I love that Husky is in the lineup. For one he does a great job as the entertaining half of a casting duo. But even better, it is going to force the haters to actually watch him in action.

I. CANT. WAIT.

Also, I really like Husky, just because he's so exciting. Artosis, Day9, Chill will be plenty enough for analysis, but TSL's just gotta have some pumped up energy. So glad TL picked him up for this.

This times one thousand.

Also will be interesting to see how many of husky's subscribers will tune into the live cast considering the majority of them are casual VoD viewers. My guess is maybe 1.5k.

Shakuras Plateau has been edited for diagonal position play only, and Metalopolis has been edited to remove close land positions. The bottom of ramps have been modified to prevent easy walling with buildings

I can understand why close-positions Metalopolis has been removed - far too much cheese/all-in play, but why remove back-door positions from Shakuras Plateau? With two sets of destructible rocks and a comfortably long run distance, the only units which can really abuse the back-door are Colossi or blink Stalkers, and only in the mid- to late- game. Is that enough to make back-door spawns Protoss-favoured, or is there something I'm not getting here?

No Tasteless?

Still looks like a killer line up and I can't wait to see some amazing games. I would have been a little worried about Husky being one of the main casters, but the games he recently casted with Day9 were just great and I think they can be a pretty good pair for the job.

I think husky was a great choice. My only main criticism of him before this was a seeming lack of knowledge about the meta-game and correctly talking about what was going on in terms of players builds, but he seems to have fixed that really well.

Actually, Artosis first moved into casting for the long-forgotten Ascension tournament (never completed).

Good thing it says "and the first two TSLs" and not "and first the TSL". It also doesn't say he "first moved into casting".

If he was already a caster before he casted those events, then he wasn't "moving into casting" for them. But not worth fighting about.

Disagree a little bit with the Shakuras modifications, but meh, whatever. Not a huge deal, nor do I really care.

TSL gonna be epic, I will say!

For those whining about Husky, he's better than he used to be. I initially didn't like him at all, either, but things have taken a turn for the better and it's really a good fit for the rest of the casters.

Can't wait for TSL!!

The casting team is really balanced, actually.

djWheat and Husky for entertainment and enthusiasm.

Day9 and Artosis for game knowledge.

Chill somewhere in between.

All can articulate their thoughts on the spot and are well-spoken (well, more or less), so definitely no complaining from my side.

well husky isn't going to spend the first 5 minutes of every game talking about himself during a tournament, so it'll probably be ok.

also think there should be ONE rush-able map, no? oh well (flame me, i'm terran)

the only reason why they picked husky is to cater to all the noobs who like his stupid casting style.

The only people who are deserving to cast this IMO are day9, tasteless and artosis. Maybe chill, but IMO he has to be a little more charismatic. Only people who have been in the starcraft community for a while and know what the hell they're talking about should cast this.

This is gonna be awesome no doubt im really surprised by what husky is doing in all this to be quite honest it didn't see that coming i guess this is a proving ground for him.

EDIT: Lucid is totally right, i think only people who have made a decent impact and have been around the scene for a while should cast, compared to people who still seem very new.

Kudos to TSL for inviting Husky...very good caster and if he advertises his appearance on TSL to his 400k+ subscribers this will be a huge boon for TSL.

Don't get the argument that you have to be an elite player to be a good caster... Some of the worst casters in professional sports are ex-all stars, while some of the best sports casters were either marginal players or didn't even play the sport.

Would have been nice to see HD get an invite...

As for Day9, I'm surprised he is as popular as he is... He exaggerates his vocal inflections which makes him very difficult to listen too, he repeats things a lot, takes a long time to say a little, and his humor just doesn't work for me... I think he could improve a lot if he stopped trying to be cute and just used a more 'straight to the point' style of casting.

Would be cool to see Artosis and Husky do a co-cast.

I think I'm one of those noobs that are mentioned so very often in the last 26 pages - aside from the fact that I'm not bronze leage, heck - I don't even play SC2.

As esports reach out to a wider and more diversified crowd, you'll have the viewer ranks filling up with people like me: pure spectators, that have maybe tried playing once or twice, maybe not, that are enjoying to see the pros at work in well cast games, and happy with doing just that.

(while of course it would be amazing to be awesome at Starcraft (or any computer game, really) and play insane games against the best of the best, these musings are on par with daydreams of me scoring the game winning point in a soccer match or whatever - a daydream, albeit a fun one.)

What drew me in was a youtube vid of the HDH Invitational during the beta - well timed, just as the tournament was unfolding - and the thing that really made me stay was the very fact that it was cast with passion, real, seemingly touchable passion, sort of like south american soccer commentators.
So yeah, the noobs might not be as deeply embedded in the scene as the aspiring diamond league player, and they might not be too enthusiastic about hour-long breakdowns of just how a certain timing push has to be executed to get it just right - and for those the charged outcry of "oh, a drop coming in from the south!" might actually be more than just stating the obvious - so I for one am very happy to see an interesting and well selected field of casters, sharing both expertise and charisma.

Can't wait!

I like Husky. I like anyone who supports Starcraft, helps it grow, and makes it fun. All the elitists are just that.

As for the map pool, I have to say this:

I think Crevasse/Terminus AND Tal'Darim are a bit of an overkill. I think, if you took out one of those new colossal maps and put up Lost Temple I would have been 100% satisfied. Seems like they went TOO overboard with the new maps before they are completely proven, and LT is such a HUGE piece of Starcraft history- I would have loved to see either that or Shattered Temple as one of the choices.

I came to post that, but had to comment on Husky, again. Don't be jelly y'all haters. Lord. Just allow a brother to do his thing.

So it is in vogue to hate on Husky, is this a new hipster thing? I hate hipsters -_-, anyways this is really looking great I can not wait to see Chill and Husky commentate together that should be very interesting as I have seen all the other team ups.

As far as maps go I am a little sad at least one of the new Blizz maps did not make it in but I understand they are still relatively new so maybe players who have been not played them a ton would have a disadvantage.

I find it very funny that people are calling non-Husky fans "elitists." A lot of the previous posters have stated they don't like him because he lacks the game knowledge that the other casters do and that isn't any more elitist than saying I'm not a fan of x random B-teamer because they aren't as good as Flash or Jaedong. Wanting the "best" is not elitist in this regard.

I certainly don't dislike Husky for being too "mainstream" as someone insinuated.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding precisely why some of us dislike Husky as a caster for TSL3. I personally watch casts primarily to get better at the game and entertainment is secondary. People like me want to watch the best of the best play so we can potentially learn from the best. It makes sense that someone watching to get better will prefer someone like Day9 (who says all the time that one of his goals is to improve viewer's skill) over someone like Husky. I would imagine a fairly large amount of posters on a site like Teamliquid value getting better at the game pretty highly so we want the in depth knowledge in our casters.

So, for viewers like me, we'll take someone with amazing game knowledge who doesn't freak out and shout as much like Chill over someone who's game knowledge is limited and who's primary strength is trying to inject more excitement into the cast like Husky. Of course, it's a win win situation when you have someone like Day9 who can do both. I was a big fan of Gretorp for the same reason.

Love the map pool, and psyched for all the commentators except for Chill, no offense to the guy but he's lacking a certain... energy that the rest of the commentators listed have. He's certainly got the game knowledge though.

If only NASL had a casting lineup like this, then I'd be more excited for that.

Really happy about the Husky thing. Especially cause of the fact that his casting has gotten a lot better as of late. His casting with Day[9] was actually very good not to mention his huge subscriber base that he can promote TSL3 to through his YouTube.

Super excited about TSL3. :D

Casters play a much more important role in SC than they do in sports or anything else where everything can be on one screen and easily seen and understood.

So I know I'll get banned but I have to say that TSL3 will be much less enjoyable with Husky casting. Depending on whether he acts like he's knowledgeable about the game or not during the tournament I may mute it or watch something else. I mean, leaving aside his generally leechy behavior unlike casters like TotalBiscuit, he even gives out false unit statistics. It shows not just lack of knowledge but a complete disregard for the SC community. I don't say this to flame Husky, but as constructive criticism for you who are trying to build more interest / respect for your tournament.

I know I'm FAR from alone. And unlike the Husky fans who'd be watching anyway, we're passionate enough about the issue that it may change our decision to watch. I mean look at how many people are willing to give up their posting rights just to stand up for the issue. I will miss my TL posting rights.

For all the ones bashing Husky, take a listen to the PAX Liquid showmatch series. I am the biggest Day9 fanboy out there, primarily because Day9 gets so deep in the strategy and predicting what will come next. IMHO, only Artosis can match Day9's depth of analysis. However, Husky stayed with Day9 in every game, offering his own predictions, analyzing strategy very well, and he had a good rapport with Day9. Husky has always been entertaining, and I think he is really rounding out well as a caster. I think the caster "pool" is great! Thanks to Artosis for giving the time he can!

Also, thanks for limiting Shakuras and Metal spawn positions. Good choices there. You can rush any map, just have to be creative in the way you do it. Look at Haypro nydus'ing Tyler in the Pax tourn on a HUGE map!! Not exactly a rush, but still. . . .

Have a question and a suggestion for our awesome TSL cameraman.
I'm wondering who the cameraman is. He's doing a really good job, and even pointed out some things that the caster's took awhile to get to, like pointing out food count during game 2 lonerprime/ra game.

I do have one suggestion though.
+ Show Spoiler [Game 1 Huk/Hasuobs] +
During game 1 Huk/Hasuobs, the cameraman had a zealot selected, but I was really curious of the HP of the cols, which is arguably what the battle will hinge on.

That said great camerawork! very smooth and you're getting all the action

He (Husky) has been around for ages on youtube casting broodwar at least 2-3 years ago. He has been involved (maybe non-TL stuff though) in SC community for a while. He has arguably single-handedly brought more people (the post above called them noobs) into SC2.

Isnt this being elitist? He may appear to be "new" to you, but arguably more people know of him than any of the other casters because he has developed their passion for SC2 with his videos. There is a reason 400k people subscribe to him on youtube even though almost all his vids are SC2 related (remember SC2 not mainstream atm)

In short, stop talking bollocks. Everyone can have an opinion, but uninformed opinions need to be put down.

Just watched Husky and Dj vods. They did AWSOME! Analysis was spot-on, enthusiasm was high, no akward moments. You anti-Husky babies need to find someone else to bash, cause you always need someone to undermine. So insecure?

Can't wait for more vods!

I worked through the second day of TSL, and tbh, I don't know if I would have watched or not. I would have loved to watch HuK and Jinro play, but I seriously can't stand listening to Husky for the shortest amount of time. I know everyone will point me to his videos with day9, but I've already tried those, and I had to turn it off after 3 minutes. I love day9, but husky's attitude, voice and overall casting style just gets on my nerves. I give him credit for bringing players to the game and all that, but he's just not for me. If you're a husky fan, that's cool. I just don't see what the appeal is. at all.
In theory, practice and theory are the same. In practice, they are not
