Update September 20th, 2010: Tracker working again There were some issues with the tracker because the user streams page was changed. All is well again and I made two tiny changes to the program.
--- I strongly recommend that if you like using the StreamTracker that you update to the new version that can be found here: http://streamtracker.vandergeer.eu/app/TLStreamTracker.zip
Simply update by overwriting the old application.
Changelog: - Stream title now shows the actual title of the stream instead of the name of the user who owns it. (Like with Cancella's stream actually being CellaWeRRa's stream. It now shows the right title). - Temporarily disabled the option to view the stream on LiveStream.com since it (obviously) didn't work for streams that don't use livestream. As soon as I find the time to implement the option for all the available stream provider's (ustream, justin.tv, etc) I will enable it again.
Original post: ----------------------------------------------------
Seeing that lovely Retdetector gave me the idea to create a stream tracker that can monitor multiple streams and alert you when they come online.
So, last weekend I decided to waste some of my spare time on the TL.net Stream Tracker. And here it is:
This is the full TL.net stream list ripped off the website. I've actually created a script that rips it and outputs it to here: http://streamtracker.vandergeer.eu/streamlist.xml The application then only (to minimize bandwith & cpu time) loads that list. It doesn't do any of the ripping itself.
From there you can add streams (one or multiple at a time) to your watchlist. Whatever is on the watchlist will be checked and will notify you whenever it comes online
So this is watch the watchlist looks like. The options at the bottom will allow you to enable or disable certain events. For example, if you only want the popup uncheck the tooltip checkbox and vise versa. (See last screenshot for what those things look like)
Ofcourse you can remove streams as well.
And this is what happens when a stream on your watchlist comes online. It's not intrusive at all (atleast i don't think so). If you do find the popup annoying, just disable it.
If you feel like trying it out you can download it here: http://streamtracker.vandergeer.eu/app/TLStreamTracker.zip
It requires .NET Framework 2.0 (or up) to be installed. Version 2.0 can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
Let me know if you like it (and if it actually works properly) and if I should spend more time on it to improve it a little or call me a douche for wasting my spare time on a piece of crap like this.

This IS huge. Man, great job!

Nice job, but when I first saw it in the side bar I read it as "TL.net Starleague" and got super hyped for TSL2.

EVERY SINGLE TIME.
(I even thought that the announcement for TL-wiki was actually TSL2).
WHY MUST YOU TORMENT ME THUS
(P.S. Bring back TSL!)
|
|
|
can you still name it Retracker ?
|
Stalking taken to the next level. Well done man!

Why you should chose Retector over TLStreamTracker?
- Retector has been developped in VB6, a 10 years old programming language just like Starcraft - Retector size is only 40ko which save you ~12ko on your Hard drive, nearly the size of this picture + Show Spoiler +. - Retector has Ret in its name so it's automatically way more cool.
and many more...
Just think about it.

THIS is what i wanted on the retector. :D Awesome job

How often does this poll, and does it hit mogulus or TL?
|
The application itself polls once a minute. The XML list is also updated once a minute. So if you're really unlucky you will be a minute behind.
It directs you to TL..
|
What's the user agent string it uses? I want to see if this could impact TL in any way if sufficient people start using it.
|
You don't need to worry about that. TL will never get more requests than once a minute. No matter how many people are using the application.
The requests from the application are made to my server. My server hosts the XML file which will update the application and that XML file is only updated once a minute.
|
On July 09 2009 03:27 R1CH wrote: What's the user agent string it uses? I want to see if this could impact TL in any way if sufficient people start using it. Doubt it R1CH, it should only be one extra request per minute regardless of how man people are using it (since the program only reads the xml file off his site, not off TL)
edit: beat

Thanks a lot, this is incredible.
A true asset to the community. =)

Disco: I think something nice to add is a popup window that says when a stream is online. :D EDIT: with a little sound on it ;D

Err, it does that. Doesn't it?

Um, i have it minimized and i dont see it :p
|
Do you have the options enabled on the watchlist tab? It should pop up as it does in my screenshot on the first page. That's actually the whole purpose of the program.

What operating system are you on?
I've just minimized and restored a dozen times without issues. Will try on different operating systems. Thanks voor reporting.

zatic probably could've made this a lot easier for you (assuming he didn't already). :p
http://www.teamliquid.net/video/userstream.php?mobile=1 may also be useful to some people. I made it for a friend who wanted to be able to check for live streams from his phone (will have a shorter url for that eventually )

Win XP. It just happened to me when i was doing some other stuff, then double clicked, or tried right click first. perhaps its the right click that fks up?

Yeah i've been wanting to change that in this version but I forgot. Will be fixed in next version.

Is there anyway I can make it so that when I click the go to stream option it opens a new tab in firefox instead of opening up IE?

It should open in whatever your default browser is. Opens up in Firefox for me!

I actually meant the message you get when trying to start the streamtracker. Nevermind though, I can kinda guess what the message is, I'm just surprised that you would get it.
I've uploaded the application unzipped, can you try and download this and see if that works?

Hmm, that's weird. Maybe it didn't unpack properly. The ZIP file seems to be fine. Anyway, I'm glad it's working now.

thanks for the update

Updated the ZIP archive. Seemed to be some issues with this dowload. Anyone who had issues downloading the application, please retry.

StreamTracker not working atm. Apparently the update script seems to be timing out when trying to scrape the stream page. I'm trying to fix it.

Hey, I read the OP and only scanned the thread, but I was wondering if it's possible to add streams that aren't hosted on TL to this? I like to watch other streams that aren't to bw/sc2 and I haven't seen anything like this anywhere else. Again, sorry if I missed anything regarding this.

It also only checks TL to see if streams are online, so adding streams directly would be useless. Maybe i'll change it somewhere in the future.

Besides TLStreamTracker.exe, do any other programs need to be granted internet access for the program to function properly? I ask this because your program doesn't work when I have ESET's firewall enabled, despite having an application-specific rule to grant it access on all ports.
When I disable my firewall though it works perfectly. Great job and thanks!
Edit: I troubleshooted by checking what programs were trying to gain access. "TLStreamTracker.exeamTracker.exetreamTracker.exe" - no idea. o_o Works now though.

Only that application needs internet access, and only on port 80.

i've got ALOT of problems with this :X
this needs registry access to save config and its always saying it has no access to the registry when i'm computer admin.
I'm currently on Windows 7 x64 ultimate.
Thanks and hope u kinda fix it or put the settings on file instead of registry.

That's weird, I've never heard of that problem before. It does indeed use the registry to save some settings. I might change it to a settings file. What happens when you right click on the app and choose "run as administrator"?

such a good piece of software however recently it has stopped working, it no longer shows offline users, if you save users to your watchilist it randomly takes them off and no bulletins come for when your watchlist is online. I can only assume this coincides with tl.nets changes to the user stream section .

It indeed has to do with those changes. I will be trying to get it fixed wih a little help of Rich.

awesome awesome news thanks, you have no idea how great this programme is for me and others :D
|
Alright, I'm waiting on a reply from R1CH. He was kind enough to provide an XML file with all the streams to make it easier for me. Sadly when the userstream page was changed, that file changed too for some reason. I doubt it's intentional. Hoping to hear from him asap.

awesome :D if you need any help or theres anything i can do let me know, also when it comes up post a new thread in the sc2 forums, people need to know of this software, its kickass

If I knew about it, yes. R1CH made an XML for me though, which works fine as long as he doesn't change it ;-).
I doubt he even knows about it, seems like it would have been useful to mention.
