Fact is when it comes to criticism or straight up heckling respect is going to be garnered by one who can roll with and dismiss it. No one gets banned for scumbag steve memes when those are tbh criticizing one's character a lot more harshly for no reason at all. Those actually had relevancy and were funny. We have holocaust jokes in there too. But anyway, my main point is comedy shouldn't be censored, because just blanketbanning people for criticizing Kelly isn't going to do anything but create more hostility albeit quieter. I know my first thought was Oh I guess TL is whiteknighting.  No one was making fun of her for anything other than what her JOB was. The pics weren't saying she was a gaptooth hippomouth (read that one in the gom chat) or how she had no tits. It was just relevant and lighthearted jokes at her Singaporean accent. | ||

PM the mod please. Second, if you really think that we are "blanketbanning people for criticizing Kelly" then you need a reality check: what we are banning people for is deriding her in ways that are mean and unconstructive. Both content and delivery matter. So while it is ok to point out that you think she has an accent that will have an effect on her casting, it is not ok to make a post consisting entirely of crude imitations of that accent. (Analogy: while it is of course permissible to point out a post as incorrect, it's not ok to do so by writing "DURR DURR STUPID POST".) | ||

So every post / thread (d)evolves pretty fast into a shitstorm where both sides insult each other / kelly. Also everything has been said. So basically no post adds "content" to the discussion, but is basically a "+1". So atm isnt the time to do some "mildly funny/offensive" pictures (with her as a meme) - it would just lead to more bad posting. I think in ~2-3 weeks we can do some funny ones and wont get banned for it. Just ignore everything involving kelly - and you'll do fine. That's my current point of view. Maybe we can have a better discussion in 2-3 weeks - when the dust has settled. Btw - are there any statistics who has the most bans in a certain timeframe? Has Mani managed to get the "highscore" thanks to today or was something "better" in TLs history? | ||

You don't get people in the Libya protest thread getting banned for criticism Gadaffi. I realise the comparison is extreme but TL is a mature community and I think the mods went slightly overboard with bannings, especially given how bad Kelly really is as a person (I liked her as a person until I read her responses to criticism) and as a caster. But anyways thank you Kelly haters brave enough to voice your opinion for one of the most entertaining reads of the automated ban list. EDIT: Posts like these really don't deserve a ban. When posts like these aren't. | ||

There's a way to give criticism without making it personal, mean spirited, or immature. It's one thing to say "I'm trying to understand her accent, but it's going to take some getting used to." or "He's definitely getting a lot of sentries to set up a midgame timing push, I don't know why Kelly just said he was teching and being defensive." That's specific, not personal, and not offensive. But if you lace your criticism with sexism, racism, or third grade humor, you're going to get banned. It's really really simple. Also, Mani had 96 bans by my count out of that thread, and around 110 posters were banned total. | ||

But that's a personal problem of yours not the communities. But I get why TL is doing it, i just dont agree with it and I'm not "challenging" a ban here just complaining about the thoughts behind it. I thought this was the talk about bans thread not the everyone high five each other for bans so if my dissenting opinion is not welcome this'll probably be my last post about it anyway. So my second point is those things I said about her were what i've read in chats during the Code A matches not my personal voice. Never said it was high humor btw either. But I guess i agree with the guy about the tenderness of the issue atm and give it a couple weeks. Much the same as with President Bush, we weren't allowed to trash on him or numerous "laws" would punish us until he was out of office. @treehugger yeah but the funny pic thread is about funny pictures not criticism and the fact is I found them funny, that does not mean I'd go into the LR or wherever else saying lame jokes and making fun of her... Everything has it's place imo, and that's where lowgrade humor belongs. But it's entirely TL's prerogative to not allow it, standards are their's to set but I felt a voice was necessary to show that not everyone agrees with it.
