THIS IS NO LONGER A STICKED TOPIC - SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED. DO NOT SEND ANY MORE PM'S PLEASE!
What do you ask of me? - Fenix
Obs: Due to some categories filling up quite alot faster than others, make sure you apply for a category where additional competence can fill a purpose. Consider some of the overpopulated categories, such as (but not exclusivelly) certain kinds of math and programming, to be closed until further notice. Besides that, big thanks to everyone who have contributed to the list! /K

Hi, First of, a great thanks to everyone who has applied to the Manpower list over the last year. Since the thread was made almost exactly a year ago, i have recieved roughly 500 pm's with people wanting to be on the list. Including the code, the page is up to allmost 51 000 characters(!) equal to 32 pages in word as a reference. Making this as a forum post perhaps isnt the ideal way of making a list like this. It could be done way more awesome with a proper client that handeled all the information. It could also make input to the list easier. But this list, as much as it is useful in different ways, is really more of a concept of what can be done with this kind of data, thus such projects is left for the future for those who are able. However, this doesnt mean that the list can't be improved in its current state. One thing ive noticed in many of the PM's sent is that people are asking for references on the inputs made on the list. What makes LarJarse the ideal person to reply on sex & relationship issues just because his name is on the list? I didn't really have any good ideas on how to tackle this. Until today. I thought, why just not make a second list, listing all the applicants in alphabetical order, with spoilers presenting them in a short manner with references. It doesnt have to be huge, just a 30-50 word presentation of their experiences on the subject(s) they have categorized themselves under. This will be a project under evolution, just as the list itself. I dont expect everyone who signed to be reading this post emediatelly. I will be recieving the presentations through PM, just as the original sign-ups. You dont have to send a presentation (i cant force you), but if you did sign up on the Manpower list with the intention to help others, a description explaining your capability on the subject might help those who eventually uses the list to pick you as the person to turn to. it is VERY IMPORTANT that the presentations are written in a strict format as to relieve me of too much micro management in each PM, specially if this takes off and all 500 signed sends me PM at the same time What i want from you (if you are signed to manpower), is a PM sent to Starparty with the following information: I've replaced [ ] below with ( ) to properly show the code i want you to put in the PM!. (b)Your name(/b) (spoiler) Presentation (30-50 words +/-) (/Spoiler) Name the PM: "Presentation (Your name)"Hopefully the code will be shown in the PM so i can copy/paste it quick. The presentations will be displayed on the Manpower OP below the list. /K Register >>> + Show Spoiler +Animation by: Pholon Note: Please remember that i don't know anything about half the attributes i'm adding and im also doing this in my second language. Saying "put me up for calc" doesn't tell me anything. You need to be more detailed and specific.Example: Hey can you please add me to the following Graphics-Photoshop Engineering- CAD/Software - AutoDesk Inventor Computers-Programing-Java Also, could you add a spoiler for video editing? I am proficient in adobe premier cs2, cs4
About >>> + Show Spoiler +BY REGISTERING YOURSELF TO THIS LIST YOU COMMIT YOURSELF TO ANSWER QUESTIONS SENT TO YOU RELATED TO THE TOPIC(S) YOU ARE LISTED UNDER. THIS IS A LIST WHERE PEOPLE IN NEED CAN FIND HELP WITH THEIR QUERIES, NOT A LIST TO FLAUNT YOUR SKILLS. KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR PM.- If someone is incapable of answering your specific query, PM me for a possible subcategorization.
- If someone doesn't answer your query at all, PM me with the name and the relevant category and the entry will be removed.
8. THOU SHALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE SITE Contribute to the site. Everyone should pitch in. Some people contribute by being helpful when someone posts a question. Some people contribute by writing interesting posts that stimulate discussion or by uploading relevant and useful facts and information. Some people contribute by posting news from the gaming world. Others contribute by participating in a meaningful way every single day. Still others contribute by simply making everyone laugh. Contribution can take many forms and there's no single prescribed way to go about it. But, like good porn, we know it when we see it. Good contributors will always get favorable treatment. That's just the way things work.
Inspired by thedeadhaji’s thread “Serious Business”, here comes the Team Liquid Manpower thread, taking the eighth commandment to the next level. What are you good at? Would you be able and interested in helping any fellow Team Liquid member with answering questions, solving problems or creating stuff within your specified area of expertise? If you do, this is something for you. Basically, this will be a huge (hopefully) list of the combined manpower of TeamLiquid.net. If you ever encounter a problem within a certain field of knowledge and seek help, hopefully this list might be able to provide you with someone to speak with, someone who can help you solve your problem. So how do we do it? Basically the list will be made out of several categories in alphabetical order. Categories will be added on demand - that is when someone fills that area of expertise. By joining the list you will only be showing your screen name and your ability. If someone wants to contact you, they will have to send you a personal message here on Team Liquid and you can then establish a direct personal contact. A few categories out of the back of my head which will probably be taken advantage of is translation, sound- and image production. So why should you do this? Well, only you can answer that. Do you feel like you do not have any special talent you want to share? Do you feel like you just don’t have the time to bother? Well, okay, no one is forcing anyone to anything. I just know that my name will be on the list for the sole purpose that I find satisfaction in helping people I don’t even know just because of the simple fact that I can. I don’t know what reasons might be yours to sign up, but if you have any, don’t hesitate to do so. As haji said, harbour these connections. Something good might spring from this in the future. Also, worth noticing is this might be a way for you to find people with similar interests. To join this list, send me a personal message with your speciality (be sure to specify programs if you got any special skills in such) and desired category - Remember to specify your skill. Just being good at, say biology, doesnt tell us much, be precise with the sub category you want your name added to. Do NOT post your skills in this thread since it will be impossible to monitor in the long run if this kicks off as I hope it will. I know there have been plans on doing this in an even larger scale around here by more famous forum members than me. This thread will be monitored atleast once a day. If you find any errors in the spoilers or know a name (yourself or someone else) who is in the wrong place or shouldn't be on the list, PM me. Kristoffer "Starparty" Elmqvist+ Show Spoiler +Thank you, TeamLiquid, for supporting this thread! I am honored to be in the Featured Threads forum. I will continue to update this list and i hope the people of teamliquid.net can find great use in it. If any sunshine stories emerge from the usage of this list, please share them My 1000th post was originally reserved for something else, but this has been worthwhile enough for me to have spent it with good enough conscience.

and does this cover skills only useful to teamliquid? for example, chem and bio don't seem that useful, and I can see skills like commentating, animation, and video editing to be very very useful.

Yeah lol surprised there isn't computer help although that would be filled with any geek that thinks he knows something cuz he uses linux.

I can do anything related to film/video editing (as well as probably most things dealing with film/video production but I try to specialize in editing =/ (even more specifically, using the program Final Cut Pro 6)), and I can probably help with most things relating to bass guitars (setting them up, repairing them, how to properly set up an amp and speaker cabinet, as well as actually playing).

i guess not, your level of knowledge for the specific subject should be enough to explain to a certain member how to do something or advise him in a proper way.
like translating from your primary language to English and vice verse.
|
Yeah this is fantastic... I can think of many uses for it, and will most likely come to it in the future. =)
|
I wish i could help with something major i really do, but im not really a expert on anything.
I can translate english <-> danish should the need ever arise, but other than that i doubt that i can show any specific expertise.
There should be a section for nerdness or something, i know lots of crap that doesent matter shit :D

Shouldn't law also be subdivided by nation or region, seeing as the practice of law can be very different in different parts of the world?

I think my English --> French translations could be ok Nevertheless my French --> English would probably be a bit sucky ( but i don't think people here would need it )
I suck for basicly everything else ( even if study math/economics i can't really give advice to people after highschool lol ).

I can do math up to calculus C Edit: nevermind, my Japanese sucks, ignore that

TheYango, it is unlikely that a consultation on TL would require the user to delve into the specifics of law that's different vastly from state to state, imo, and a preliminary talk with the person in question would easily allow the one seeking consultation to know.
Physician, I am just wondering, aren't you at liability here if you give out any kind of advice? While I highly doubt that any TL member would turn on one another, your advice of those nature I believe are still legally regarded as medical in nature, which puts you in a position that I'd rather not be in.

Wow this is fantastic.
I guess my focus would be International Relations (falls under politics i guess for heading) specifically National (US Canada) and international security issues, terrorism policy for G8 nations. I have a fairly deep understanding of military history, US doctrine and their applications to modern conflict.
Also i coach TL nerds on how to get girls cause most are useless. I can provide letters of reference for real yo.

No, we make up categories as new skills is added (BY PM, NOT IN THIS THREAD!!!) No ofcourse chem and bio might be less usefull, bu someone always need help with school work or whatever, and besides its having the ocassional unusual entry that might make this list useful, because computer help u can get anywhere on the internet, but personal assistance with molecular biology might be harder
Obviously im not putting as much effort into subcategorizing the entries that seem less common though. Like, geology is mostly just geology, no need to dig (haha) into every subcategory categorizing every rock there is etc

i thought quite long about the name... since manpower being a jobsupplier atleast in my country it felt like a funny name since it is also a synonym for labour. However i was fully aware of the gay references to be made and frankly i am amazed that i got this good reception on the list. No single gay joke until page 6. that is good enough for me
|
hahahaaha mabye i should rename the thread Team Liquid Horsepower? :D
|
The joke is not gay, in the same way talking about breasts is not lesbian :/
I had a feeling man power was some male touring strip show for women, but guess I just had male strip shows on the mind when I read the thread...
It is also a job resource centre or something here in Aus, too. Manpower makes sense in the title, I just wanted to sate my curiosity when I found out it wasn't a male strip show. I KNEW I had heard it mean something odd before xD
Anyone else have ideas for things people might have skills at and need advice with? Sure there are the profession and university subject things but I doubt too many people will require them. Anything more practical that we can add to the list? Student cooking was a good one ^^
|
Ahhh, sorry for the double post but I had to justify it!
I was right!
There's your much missed gay joke. Ahhh, sweet closure. Let us now hope the gay jokes are out of the system and the thread can get on with its life :D

PhD in particle physics and 6 ball juggler at your service.
We should use this thread to tell about when we have used the thread and gotten help from people!
And people can reward the people giving them help by giving them a reference point or something. Just to make more people sign up to more categories.
Also I think it is a good idea if the contributors post and write a few words about themselves, so that when you come here and have 4 names on a subject, you can show all posts and CTRL-F search for the names and see who may be the best option.
Great Thread! Good idea!

i thought that people who delivered a succesful advice or help in a query could get their names in red below that particular category. Only problem is that that might direct too much traffic to that single individual. However i have no idea who much this will actually be used for the time being. If it is a query a week in total, then it might not hurt so much. But if it is 50, painting names in red might be a dumb idea

Why not just add a gold star or something every time advice was great. Half if it was okay, 0 if it was neutral, and -1 if it was bad. Or set it up like ratemyprofessors, though that can be deceiving at times.

Hmm, should there be some sort of rating system implemented?
Like mentioned above, though the advisers could say, like, "PM Starparty if I did an especially good or bad job" and only really exceptional advice/help would be mentioned. You'd get a feel for who was a good adviser then.

Good idea!
This is actually a pretty good idea, basically on file resumes.

yes, i just dont want to channel all traffic to one person. Firstmost he might get too much work depending on how this will be used, and secondly then there is no reason for the others to be listed.

could use more people in bartending, and other similar activities. There is alot of people to assist in empirical knowledge, but not so many in unique stuff. I love that someone signed up under the category "marriage" for example

Oh man I'm gonna F5 my inbox like crazy now.

oh, PM me if your contact in the list doesnt answer your PM. I will remove people who doesnt respond to queries since that is not the point of the list what so ever.
If someone is incapable of answering to your specific query in a subject it might be a case of bad luck since it is hard to grasp an entire subject, and that might be a case of arrowing down a specific subcategory for the listed person since he wasnt able to handle the entire category. But if someone simple chooses to not answer PM's, they will definitelly be removed from the list.
As stated in the "About" section of the list:
BY REGISTERING YOURSELF TO THIS LIST YOU COMMIT YOURSELF TO ANSWER QUESTIONS SENT TO YOU RELATED TO THE TOPIC(S) YOU ARE LISTED UNDER. THIS IS A LIST WHERE PEOPLE IN NEED CAN FIND HELP WITH THEIR QUERIES, NOT A LIST TO FLAUNT YOUR SKILLS. KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR PM.

Haha seeing the amount of requests I receive concerning Healthlaw, Contractlaw and especially Intellectual Property Law (not surprisingly) I'd say this thread actually works haha.
Sorry that I can't help everyone though, some cases are just really serious and extensive and would be better served with actual paid professional assistance ^^. Mostly cause of the extensive investment required in time.
Cheers for the thread though!
|
mabye we should remove those categories then? Or modify the entires with a "basic" tag or something? Feels kinda pointless having it otherwise

Nah, people should know what they ask for. With something like translation, I'd be happy to translate an article or something, but when asked 'can you translate this book' I'd say yes, but I won't. People can draw their own lines as to what extend you can help people (just always pm back if only to let people know if you can do what you're begin asked)
|
Netherlands19130 Posts
People can ask me for whatever they want, if I actually make work of it as part of my spare time is another thing alltogether though . Depends on the time required, most stuff I can just answer straight of the bat but when theres a real underlying case or people actually have issues I just refer them to actual counseling since theres serious stuff on the line.
Asking is always free ^^.
|
of course, but as stated on the first page, the entire point of the thread is to be able to get help if you need it. If it is a big job, compensation can obviously be decided between the two parts. But neglecting jobs in general because there is not time or motivation to it is not what i intended.
People should always consider what time they are willing to put into this before they write me a PM. If you dont want messages regarding bigger jobs, then we can specify that.
|
So, it looks like after getting some help from t_co I'm going to get a job. Thanks, TL manpower!

Saw this earlier, wasn't quite sure how to add myself. I have a lot of general knowledge when it comes to computers, specifically networking, troubleshooting, anything connection related, etc. I also happen to work for Comcast, the second largest ISP in the US -> I can really help out folks directly there with any Comcast related issues, or more broadly with general ISP issues/concerns.

I'd like some people who wouldn't mind me bothering them about learning Korean. I know there's tons of Koreans on here, but I'll have a lot of annoying questions and don't want to bother people unless they're inclined to help.
Also, I'm a mechanical engineer and can help with most things related to dynamics and kinematics, energy, piping, oil & gas, and hydraulics (as in pipeline pressures, heads, parallel / series pipeline systems, etc.). Bold for things I'm best at.

edit: I'm sorry to say that i have to dissagree with the sarcasm in your post. How to register is the first thing that is visible in bolded text in this thread, followed by a big blinking gif animation (cred pholon). From OP
Note: Please remember that i don't know anything about half the attributes i'm adding and im also doing this in my second language. Saying "put me up for calc" doesn't tell me anything. You need to be more detailed and specific.
Example:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey can you please add me to the following Graphics-Photoshop Engineering- CAD/Software - AutoDesk Inventor Computers-Programing-Java Also, could you add a spoiler for video editing? I am proficient in adobe premier cs2, cs4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im'n not looking for an argument. I work as a professional journalist so i get way too much of that everyday as it is. Im just trying to systematize the process to save me twice the amount of work. Sorry if you were offended by my post, i was just trying to be inturwebz-funny, but please, just look up the relevant categories and categorize your skills, alternativelly make up new ones if the exising ones does not cover. I mostly copy and paste the info, and im most grateful the less editing i need to do!
Regards /K

Been wondering if there was anything more unique I could help out with that doesn't already have much support..
In terms of work I would be a great resource for the following topics:
- Website Production (Life cycle of websites, treatments, wireframes, schedules, organization, technical requirements, development, qa, launch). Mostly within the entertainment industry (my experience includes LucasArts, Ubisoft and MTV) where quick turnarounds are necessary and we appeal to a younger audience.
- Internationalization of Websites (I have internationalized/localized sites for 25 regions in 18 languages: EN, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, EL, HU, IT, NL, NO, PL, PT, RO, RU, SV, TR, UA).
- Website Development (although everyone and their mommas can help with this so i dont need to be in this category too).
These probably fit in under Computers.

I am a fluent bilingual in Japanese/English (please don't ask me to translate long texts and entire episodes of your favorite anime) and can help anybody who happens to have questions, but I have a feeling that if everybody messages me with their homework on this subject that it will be overwhelming. I know Japanese is a very popular subject to study in American universities. Also, I only really hold a tacit knowledge of the Japanese language so I can't explain rules very easily.
I can help with the following topics:
Linguistics: semantics, pragmatics, syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics, language contact, applied linguistics (not so much forensic linguistics ), psycholinguistics.
Language: Japanese (all), language learning, language teaching.
Education: general theory
Please don't hesitate to ask me for help! :D

I am good for Debate
Specifically, I am knowledgeable in the Public Forum format, but other things like Lincoln-Douglas, or just general debate, are fine too.

NOTE: I PMed the message below but it said I spammed and should post my message in forum topic.
Hi Starparty,
I'm a 3 time Boston DJ Battle Champion and 5 time Regional judge. I was one of the first considered instructors to teach at Berkley College of Music for their brand new DJ school back when they started it.
That same year, I was thinking about retiring and didn't pursue it the Berkley gig. I retired that summer. You can put me into the "Music" > "DJ" > "Turntablist" section if of your list if you like.
I've specifically focused on teaching random people throughout the years. I'd go to their homes if needed. I took my last student from a #1 to a #7 out of 10 as a club DJ.
He now how his own residency. I've put him on TV and got him into the "UnderBar" and "Felt" in Boston. I only taught him for 4 months and promoted him for 3 months.

I really like this idea. It's so great and def. is an improvement over like making millions of individual "halp" threads.
I don't really have too much knowledge/wisdom to input and I'm only a freshman so I'm limited in my major, so I put myself down for DDR/Stepmania, Video Game Music genre, and General Audio Computer Tech (although I don't go so deep here)

There we go, updated 23/10 - 10
|
Ps, i have gotten some PM's from people interested in possibly creating some kind of client for this. Yes, that is still very interesting, since the code for this page is getting pretty heavy. Try quoting the OP and see for yourself...

Are there any lawyers that are familiar with tenant-landlord law/rights? I have an issue currently where I am POSITIVE that I require compensation for delayed repairs of necessary utilities (bathroom water), and the landlord is trying to be a hard-ass with me about it because I am a younger kid. Just looking for consultation on this to make sure my position is solid. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Can we still pm people who've put themselves down in this thread?
|
Why did this thread get shut down?
|
Oh wow, what a bump. This would have been really cool to get in to. Oh well, i guess this thread's time has passed.
|
I have no idea how I got here, but since someone else bumped this thing not too long ago I might as well do so as well...
This thread is an amazing idea. I'm so sad it died before I found it. It's also kind of topical considering that blog of Mani's from not too long ago. This community has a lot of power floating around.
Why did the thread die? Just because OP ran out of time to update it, or what? And are any of the people on there still replying to PMs? I'm suddenly inspired...
|
is it possible to redo this thread? teamliquid manpower v2? D:

Yeah, I would like to sign up for a few things, but the OP still says no more PMs. I also see some old banned people on the lists still for things. LoL.
