I know I’m no Luckyfool, but since he doesn’t wanna be the one to spearhead the event, I will be your the organizer for this upcoming DC LAN! Some of you may know me as Richard, or you might not know me at all, but I’ve gone to a couple of the past DC LANs, and will be heading down from Rochester, NY for AGDQ and for this, because you DC people are the best :D! I missed out on the previous SC2/BW tournament, so we are gonna be trying that again! I was talking with a few of you at Red Bull, and you it seemed like there would be some numbers behind having a BW event, so let’s do it!
When: Saturday January 10, 2015 (12PM-10PM… or 11PM, let’s hope not all that much later, we’re all gonna want BBQ)
Where: Monster PC: 7031 Little River Turnpike #13b, Annandale, VA 22003
What: Two concurrent Starcraft tournaments, one in SC2 with some great, old maps, and one in Brood War with also great, old maps. Other side events as requested by people! Due to increased costs of the LAN center, the cost is $20 to play for the day. You will need to give $20 to the LAN owner, and that will give you 14 hours of play time. Any donations to the tournaments would be appreciated, but not necessary !
Spectating is free. (Limited spectating at the LAN center though, no viewing areas other than watching players monitors)
SC2: Prizes $180+ (Depends on number of donations to the prize pool) 1st: 100 2nd: 50 3rd: 30: LuckyFool
BW: Prizes $20+ (Depends on number of donations to the prize pool): 1st: $20 Winner Takes All. The three players will play in a round robin Bo3, best score gets $20
Current Donations BW: $20: a9arnn
Format/Rules: Double Elimination Bracket
Map Pool: The current ladder maps as of 01/10/15
BW Map Pool - This can be changed, but these maps are cool imo, and were around when I was, so I can take suggestions Fighting Spirit Neo Medusa Outsider HBR Destination Colosseum Holy World
How to sign up: Post in this thread with your *BNET AKA* and which events you'll play in (SC2, BW, or both)
Notes: Please join channel "DCLAN" on sc2 bnet when you arrive at the LAN center as we will use this channel for communication during the event since the LAN center is split into separate rooms.
Unfortunately the LAN center is a bit cramped so there isn't a whole lot of space for people who plan to just spectate the event. You can (and I recommend) bringing your own headset, keyboard, and mouse. Monitors and PC's are provided by the LAN center.
If you have any other questions before the event or during the event please let me know at any time, best way to contact me before the event is PM me here on TL.
Awesome Richard! I'll be there for sure. Thanks for putting this together, obviously I'll help out as well.
$30 an entry tho...ugh. LAN center prices going up is rough. hopefully most people play both tournaments, or if there is interest for a diamond and below tournament as well we can maybe look into doing that too
Ya it sucks that it's 20 for the computer time, I suppose the prize pool could be just donations, but it wouldn't be all that big that way haha. If I lived in the area it'd be cool to see if there was anywhere else that had cheaper rates, but I do not T_T.
We're getting slightly better than $2/hr, but I don't have the funds for a prize pool, especially since the whole week prior I'm going to be at AGDQ (also I'm not from the DC area and am still a college student). I figured more people would be willing to pay the $30 than there would be people willing to donate to the prize pool. I might be wrong; if more people are willing to donate, I'd love to bring the cost down to 20, but in my financial state I can't put up a lot of $ .
Richard we may want to ditch the competitive aspect of this LAN and just have it be more of an informal show up pay $20 for 12 hours and play whatever games you want/social get together LAN. We could have mini tournaments for whatever games people play, hearthstone etc after people show up. I just don't think enough people play competitive sc2 anymore to justify paying $30, my numbers for the past few LAN's were struggling as it was at $20 a person.
Hey man, I'd be interested in coming and bringing my son, we both love SC2. Don't think we'd play the tourney, cuz we are total n00bs and would get destroyed. What would be fun is playing some games, getting some pointers, and learning from people who are actually skilled at this game.

Okay, I think that this would be a pretty good idea given the below post. I will still donate $100 to the cause, split among the different mini-tourneys (money matches maybe!?). I really just wanna hang out with all you guys that aren't going to AGDQ and play some SC!

I think that that would be pretty cool to do, I'm busy almost all of today, and will figure out what to write up, but I'll change the OP to reflect the updated LAN happenings tonight/tomorrow! I'm sure everyone would love to help out and give pointers!
We noticed your posting in the MD/DC/VA SC2 group and have added it to our website. Hopefully that will also help your event get attention. Please let us know how else we can help. For future events in the DC area, let us know about them through our Event Submission form! Good luck!
Haha you guys still do these things? Awesome! I haven't touched BW in years but I might swing by for a few games. I doubt I'd be up for the full 12 hours though.

I'm going to follow the tradition Rob set forth by putting this in the community section, it looks like there's been more responses as of late, which is nice . I've been really busy with the end of my semester, so I'll be pushing this more once I'm done, but I feel like the other LANs had nice turnout while having the thread here in community (although it did seem like they might have had more responses than this O.o).

OMG COME WE CAN DO THE DINNER THING TOOOO
Sure I'll show for a bit. How many folks will I recognize?
Keep in mind I'm also old now. I doubt my brain could handle 12 hours of starcraft anymore.

I'm always interested in coming to these and being in the local scene though doesn't seem like a hardcore tourney this time not enough peoples or lots of people busy or need to get more exposure that this one is happening @_@ so dunno if this will be hardcore or super chill

feel free to drum up the tournament with your followers
I wonder if I will go to this....making my appearance at my SECOND dc lan.. WOW!
All I need to do is fluke win vs luckyfool, and then lose the rest of the tournament to feel complete. I'll see if I can get ahold of christopher lee to see if he wants to come win some ez bucks.

You must come! haha. You can't let me run off with your money.
You technically just need to bring the entry fee, but if you prefer your own mouse and keyboard, then you should bring that as well, since the LAN center just has whatever keyboards they have! No need to bring BW, it's installed on the computers.

11:30AM is fine but it's nice to get there a little early especially if ur bringing your own keyboard/mouse etc. In person signups are fine as well, the more the merrier.

looking at March 14th for the next one, (I forgot March 6-8 is PAX east)
once I confirm it with the LAN center I'll get the ball rolling on the thread. I'll also promote it much better so we get more pro players, and hopefully more people donate for the prize pool next time too
As you can tell by the name of the username this is Troy. Some of you may remember and others may have no clue who I am. But for those of you I didn't speak to, I was the relatively quiet who was in everyones face taking photos. Anyway, I wrote a little article (not very good) on the event. I also attached some of the photos I took yesterday as well. If I missed out of anyone who would like to be mentioned in the article and I will be gladly to revise it. If would like me to send you any of that I have of the event and I will gladly provide that to you as well. Here is the link to the article on my blog: DC Lan 15 Article
I hope you all enjoy the photos and give me ANY feedback you may have.
Dude those are some EPIC photos! Was great meeting you yesterday, hope to see you out at future events. We also meet up (or try to anyway) for Korean BBQ on Saturdays, so keep an eye on the dinner thread too.
