P.S I would need MLG's high res logo for Orlando and more... BTW is PrimaDog still running all the organisation of these ? Please have him to email me if anyone knows him. marko@1234montreal.com Thanks
Oh god this sounds amazing. I'm actually starting to get more jealous of Barcrafts than going to MLGs rofl. At least i know where to come next time i'm in Montreal though!
wowo starcraft + club 1234 ?!?!? Somehow those two things dont go together in my head but that sounds awesome. I guess its gonna be a different night than your usual crowd
I will be attending this 100% for sure wow this will be so amazing, but yea club1234+sc2 really is two opposites in my head but oh well, no doubt fun will be had
This place seems so out of place for starcraft 2...but if you plan to hold the official Barcraft of montreal, I'll also definitely try to make it!! I have a bunch of friends trying to find a place to watch tournaments together, you might have solved the problem!
Thank you very much for your support! I'll do my part and spread the word!
I think you should skip Orlando and come at 1234 instead ah ! Looking EPIC so far ! FnaticMSi to sponsor :D ?
i might not go to orlando, well see wat happens =]
If you're not going to Orlando you have to come over, drinks on the house for you.

Why wouldn't they ! They do fit perfectly together, we're venue, we have ALL KINDS of event here people aren't aware of ! And i'm sure that the SC community is much cooler then a lot of our actual clients

Three months ago, people laughed at the idea of putting video games in bar screens (frankly, most that doesn't read WSJ and such still does). Nobody knows what can happen. Why not give it a try?

I think its really cool that you're doing this for Esports etc. and I'm gonna let you finish but you don't actually run the 1234 amirite? you're just the main promoter. Not calling you out or anything there's just a difference between an actual club owner and a promoter lol. Still, good luck with your barcraft goals of 2011 I'll most certainly be there myself

Agreed but like I said I wasnt just trying to call him out its just him claiming he's the owner can lead to some people having higher expectations. At the end of the day the guy sees an opportunity to make money and that's fair play to him just wanna put all the cards on the table
Nah I'm pretty confident that he is me and my friends are regulars and one of said friends is actually a bouncer for 1234. They know marko pretty well he's there all the time, but thats neither here nor there lol I just didn't want people to get the wrong impression about this thing sorry if it bothered you
edit: besides if you're familiar with the dynamics around clubs and promotion it actually makes alot more sense for a promoter to have tons of facebook friends whereas owners run things under the radar so to speak. never met the 1234's owner but I know he's 50+ years old and from what I know I had trouble imagining him playing sc2 actively ^^

Hey,
Never said i'm the owner, but we're 2 persons running this venue, me & the owner, MC Mario.
Send me an email you'll see my signature, i'm the manager for corporate events & general marketing of it.
Yes we have a nice team of promoters, but i'm above that, a promoter wouldn't be able to setup an event like this.
Good you questionned it so it gets out of the way !
Emails keep coming in !
Still looking out for a financial partner for little extras I'll give then to the community.
Ah the joys of still having a place in Montreal I'll definitely be making the road trip from Ottawa for the weekend to attend this! I'll try to convince all my friends from my old WoW guild that live near Montreal to come too! (don't worry, haven't played WoW in over 3 years now, just needed something to pass the time back then
Would there be any interest for setting up a carpool from Ottawa for this? If so, PM me!
I know you are testing the waters right now. Give me confirmation, and I'll make sure you will get tons of advertising off of qcstarcraft's Youtube channel.
* QUICK UPDATE *: We'll have a video of the night done by a professional. We'll then be able to have this up YouTube and show the world how big of a BarCraft that was.
P.S: Still looking for sponsorship, if you know any kinds of company ready to get a shit load of advertisement, spread the word, we are ready to have t-shirt for this, banners, video, advertisement, all with your name on it.
Send all requests to marko@1234montreal.com
Poster for the event and all information should be ready few days after Labour Day weekend.
I will spread this to McGill StarCraft Club, there's already posts on our FB group of many people interested to attend. I'm sure atleast 15-20 people from the club will attend.
The foam club party video in the OP is a great contrast to the image of Torte De Lini, surrounded by other gamers, asking if he can have soft beverages.

I just had one like 2 weeks ago at my place D:<
But... but... why didn't you invite meeeee ='(
Would've been awkward. Will you come to our table at orientation at Concordia? ;D September 9th!
Double-post, but I just took a gander at the venue. Pictures will be coming, but from my first-hand sight-seeing, it was lovely.
From what I recall...
The entrance is glamorous, perhaps too extensively for StarCraft, but who am I to reject such an awesome place? Upon entering you are blasted by an amazing sound system, accommodating bar and a shade of blue that was a docile tone to the flooring. It swings around to an even cozier place that had an array of nice couches from varying whites and french vanilla, to the upstairs deep red of rich wine with matching seating and coffee tables.
That's just for starters. But when the pictures come, you'll see what I mean.

Nop, we'll be easy on that, we might ID those that look really, really young, but that's all. As mentionned previously we're turning the club into a massive SC2 Command Center, no stress, no dresscode, just cool people, sick games and good times

It's probably because law isn't all that fun :D for now we should just ask people and see how many would join, and later I will probably ask the Great Torte for help as I have no idea how these clubs work (we don't have such things back home)
Sorry for hijacking the thread, let's talk via pms

oh wow! this looks incredible. it's also a great business opportunity for the owner of the club. Most of the MLG broadcast happens during the day anyways, and the clubbing happens at night, so there's no schedule conflict. I've seen other videos of interviews with bar owners who found this to be a great opportunity to gather some extra customers on Sunday afternoons.
I'm sure gonna be there!!!! and i'll be with 5 friends who are just curious about this whole thing!!! E-Sport is growing in montreal!!!! and the 1234 is the perfect place to attract people!!! Nice job guys!

Wait, this event is going to need tickets? I'm still going to go for esports but are the drinks and food (if there even is going to be food) free? Not really your typical Barcraft is it.
Shit is gonna be fucking EPIC ! So many emails/msgs for attendance it's NUTZ, looking over 500 people EZ.... We'll have all the official info coming up shortly, stay tunedddd.
Hope you are all doing great, this is the official announcement for BARCRAFT MONTREAL.
Doors will open at Noon on Sunday October 16th 2011, we will be broadcasting all of the SC2 MLG Orlando games. We will have both Red & Blue streams running simultaneously on our giant screens.

I don't mind LoL if it doesn't interfere with the sc2 streams but if it does, I really don't want to see LoL, its a barcraft event in the end, not a barlol.

Now that is bad publicity. I wouldn't worry too much about it though, note that Barcraft will not be held during nutcase hours. The police and media send hit squads to MTL bars/clubs quite frequently and oftentimes they like to stick there nose uncomfortably close

To be very honest they don't give us an hard time, this article is pure fantasy from a reporter who wants to make a name for himself. We never had any troubles in the past 2 years and we never or barely ever have fights, extremly rares. 4-5 years ago people seemed to be more agressive for some reasons. It'z all good

Now get your tickets, we'll have our film guy to shoot all of this and do a " Star Nation " type of movie about this, will be a sick day I feel.

Are we actually going to be able to hear the casters, or are they going to cover that up with club music?
Also, while I'm glad someone's organized a barcraft event in Montreal, I think an actual bar would be better for this kind of thing. That way, we can get something to eat!

Dude did you read OP ? There will be food and yes we will hear the casters...much louder than in a bar.

Read next time plz, it will be much better than a bar as we're expecting a LOT of people. Giant screens with state of the art sound system to hear tastosis's voice on a 500K$ sound system, how's that ?

gosh! after this event ill hear tastosis voice in my head for weeks gonna rock my TL.net tshirt, gonna be awesome
Our lawyers are on this, cops came to collect their money [ yes cops require money downtown to not give you a hard time ] and we told them to fuck off, this shows up then a few days after.
We've nothing to do w/ this statement, we're way above that
So the things described in this article never happened ?
Now that is bad publicity. I wouldn't worry too much about it though, note that Barcraft will not be held during nutcase hours. The police and media send hit squads to MTL bars/clubs quite frequently and oftentimes they like to stick there nose uncomfortably close
To be very honest they don't give us an hard time, this article is pure fantasy from a reporter who wants to make a name for himself. We never had any troubles in the past 2 years and we never or barely ever have fights, extremly rares. 4-5 years ago people seemed to be more agressive for some reasons. It'z all good
Everytime I go out, I see people fighting in the clubs and bars, this is nothing unusual. This sounds like bad publicity, because these things happen everywhere.
Already emailed them, waiting from some new from Twitch.TV and Blizzard for some marchandise giveaways + maybe $$ sponsorship for more production features :D
Some extra budgets could get me to have a bunch of Sarah Kerrigans to serve us food all day watching SC2
I bought my ticket and got 3 of my friends to also buy tickets, and I might be able to convince a 4th friend. He's an old-school BW player who stopped playing a long while ago, but is really interested to get into SC2.
He tells me that he feels a little bit lost in SC2 with all the shiny new features and such, so I thought that I could show him some casted games on youtube.
If you could post (or send me by pm) good, recent, games on youtube with players of MLG level with good casting that showcase as much of SC2 as possible, you'll be able to bring another player to the BarCraft ! :D

No alcohol thought, with the liquor permit it's very important no one brings beverages from the outside. We'll have a guy looking for that anyways.
Got my ticket! Can't wait for this! Pretty sure it's going to be epic since there are a lot of people attending! Just curious to know how cheerful are French Canadians... It is really great to see so many people involved and motivated for SC2

I have something in near St-Hyacinthe in the early afternoon and i have to come back not to late at night to Quebec City. Still i'm gonna try to go for a few hours. I'll also try to bring my girlfriend, that's gonna be hard

HYPE IS HUGE !
To add to parking option, mostly for those who don't want to drive in montreal, probably still a pain with mass construction work, you could take the subway, parking is 12$ if i remember correctly for 12h or more. To that you also need to add subway fee and now i'm thinking it's not the best idea in the world lol... i guess it's an option if you really really don't want to drive in the city for some reason. Traffic is normally quite low during week-end.

People coming from the 40 going west from outside of Montreal could also park at Place Versaille then take Honoré Beaugrand metro. I'm pretty sure you can park there for free.

I think that probably depends on how much money they make. If everyone brings loads of people and drinks themselves stupid, then odds are we'll got one of these every couple of months :D

What do you need a laptop for o.o
I dunno. I'm sure I could think of something though.
@aZoX - I dunno if you planned on making some kind of promotion for the upcoming WCG Canada finals, but we're organising a free qualifier for Quebec players next sunday, so it would be nice to be mentionned with it !
Not all SC2 players are willing (or are able) to pay 20$ to enter a higher level tournament such as WCG so we're giving them the chance to : a) enter a high level tournament for free b) place in the finals to represent the Quebec community at WCG Canada c) get a feel of tournament play, for those who don't experience it often.
There's already a thread on our community website, and I'm working on translating it for TL right now.
We're sending Top 3 to WCG Canada, so i'm expecting quite a lot of players to add to the bracket during the next few days !!

So I'm posting live right now from BarCraft Montreal, on the little mezzanine you saw me on earlier.
We will have ALL photos available tomorrow + a Video in around 3-4-5 days max.
Here are a few pictures that were taken today.
BIG Thanks to Max Walker for the Video & Eric Bindman for photography, these guys are the best in MTL. Thanks to CIPC & CyberActiv for the computers.
I guess I have no other choice then to do another one for MLG Providence
Last thing, if any people here are related to any gaming/computer companies and would like to support & sponsor us for the next one, please send me an email at marko@1234montreal.com
I have a lot of crazy ideas in minds, to have everything bigger & bolder, but I can't charge more then 15/20$ to our fans...
Thanks all for making this the biggest BarCraft around the world !
Can we get a ticket count? How many people showed up? It was very nice, I am definitely going again to Providence Barcraft if you guys are keeping it at 1234. These are the things I would suggest for next time:
1) The music/sound before we went live on MLG stream was okay, but after, it got increased. Or perhaps it didn't go back to the same level as before, so it was really too loud and we couldn't talk, which was kind of lame. I would suggest not putting the sound/music that loud again.
2) I know this may be complex to do, but we need more chairs. There was only room to sit in the corner or lounge place and standing up not really moving for 6 hours and more was starting to hurt. Maybe add monitors in the other rooms to spread people a little. If we have more than 600 people, we should have a way to sit down at one point and still be able to watch games.
3) Maybe we could have the video only of the other streams over the DJ booth. The stream was the same everywhere, but if there's more than 1 match going on at the same time, it could be cool to have one of those displayed.
4) keeping updates of the bracket was nice and you guys should do this again, basically, just announce and show the bracket now and then.
5) The drinks are cool, but we need to remember that this is a Sunday afternoon. I am not sure who actually took shots. Most people had a beer or a vespene gaz. I know that we are in a club and I am aware of Club prices, but 4$ shots are not that appealing Sunday, watching MLG at 5pm.I think it would be nice to have a special on the beer, like a 4$ Molson Ex for Barcraft. People would definitely buy more drinks if such a special was in place...Also, perhaps add special for food...like you can buy a ticket that gives you 2 beers and food from outside. But yeah, keep the BBQ, it was nice to have food close by.
6) Maybe you guys should talk to Blizzard and MLG so we can get gear to spread or something like that.
7) I know that this might be stupid, but Donuts would be quite nice. Like go see tim hortons/dunkin donuts/crispy creme and order like 500 donuts for like 210$ and sell them 1$ each over there. I am telling, people would definitely buy 1$ donuts. They are easy to bring around, don't have to go out to get them, super enjoyable snack with a beer and watchin' e-sports....but more importantly they ARE DELICIOUS!!! McGill sc2 club always have donut and they bring many people to the meetings....just the donuts!!!
It was awesome, thanks for making this happen, you truly are helping eSports, can't wait for the next one.
p.s: we must really do something to attract more girls into eSports, that was the ONLY thing slightly missing here (but oh well I wasn't there for that anyways :D)
I was there with my girlfriend. She liked the fact that there were no line-ups for the ladies' room. We had to leave before the end but we enjoyed it while we were there!

As for the space, ti was fince, IMO, its waht created the whole awesome ambiance but yea, an event t shirt would be awesome for the event given we pay 20$ to enter, and cant wait to see the new sponsors.... I'll definitly bring WAY more friends next time ( i was there whtih 2 friend but ill bring around 10 ppl for sure next time!)
It was a pretty impressive showing for a first time thing... I think Montreal has a pretty decent SC2 fanbase, how long is it going to take for a tournament to be organized here? Doesn't have to be MLG... Could be a home-grown montreal thing
That was so much fun. The people there were awesome, the staff was surprisingly nice, and everything was just generally really cool. Lots of surreal moments there. Getting broadcast to the world was a very cool/proud moment. Thanks a bunch for organizing. Open up your other rooms and some seating next time! My friends and me snagged a couch, but there was like 400 not so luck dudes standing up for hours.

All the people in the back (near the chairs) complained that the sound was too loud post the MLG live stream cheer. At one point, we where even yelling "SOUND TOO LOUD" because we couldn't even talk anymore...and the chairs/stools are a MUST next time. No way, i'm standing 6+ hours again. From the feedback I got: sound was too loud at the end, no chairs was painful, some better price for beer or beer deal, more snacks/food (donuts!), show different streams on different projectors.
anyway, i posted my suggestions at the top of the page (p.21) and I think they are all pretty good and most people in the mcgill club that where there thought they were also pretty good.
Overall, amazing first event!!! But there's nothing wrong in improving!!

Anyway, these are my tips for next time!!!
Cheers and great event!
Thank you ! BarCraft for Providence will happen. Tried to do my best for this, with a very, very low budget, and I think it still was an awesome success ! Keeping all the comments preciously for the next one, and believe me, it will be perfect. I had an hard time judging the sound to be honest, I wanted you guys to really feel in the game, and having it higher gives all kinds of additionals in game sounds i.e when a baneling blows up. For the seating I'm very aware of that... we wanted some seats but not to much to keep it moving. Will have more stands for the next one for sure.. I'll release soon all information for the next one, we'll open more rooms, have TVs all over the place, and will be better with the streams. At the same time I'll be very honest, there was only a time around 12:00pm and 1:30pm where we could have showed more games, the rest of the time there was only 1 stream running. Will try to do something next time for the drink specials.. at the same time 2 free drinks with the ticket wasn't that bad IMO !
Finnally, I REALLY need a sponsor, especially for giveaways, and secondly to rent a 5000$ HD projector that would be in the deep side of the room, which would make way better.
So please, send emails to steelseries, intel, monster, redbull, razer, etc... and tell them we need support !
With the video + pictures that I have though, I'm sure that they will be smart enough to come by themselves to support us..
Final count BTW was 600 people as expected Looking for 1200 people next time, with all 3 rooms open.

A couple suggestions for MLG Providence:
1) We need stools. Everyone's feet hurt so freaking bad at the end!
2) We need more space, if possible.
3) The games should be projected on an even surface, not on a brick wall. Hang some white sheets on the walls.
4) The sound was way too loud sometimes, please be careful about that!
5) There were times when we were watching the MLG spectators dicking around when we could have been watching a game, either a live one or a replay.
Thanks, I'll definitely be there for Providence.
Hey,
Please see above there's a few answers to your questions, the only thing was wasn't mention is the brick wall, I had bought expensive mega curtains to cover the walls, but they were 2 inches too small ! I thought it would have pissed off a lot of people, and brick wasn't that bad... That'll be improved for Providence

Exactly, louder sound can be annoying, but it can be better as well to really feel all games sound effetcs. I would give the moon to you guys, but without sponsors it's pretty hard, and you guys shouldn't pay a more expensive tickets. I'm very confident that we'll have massive amounts of gears to giveaway for the next one

Dude, thanks for being so involved and open to constructive criticism. It's obvious that without a guy as passionate as you, this and future events wounln't be nearly amazing as they were/will be. Keep up the awesome work man! Unfortunatly I don't personally have any connections to sponsors, but I can at the very least say that every time you put one of these on, I'll be there to fill up your bank account
Agreed on the count of the sound getting too loud sometimes. It started out at a good level in the beginning, but as time went on I found it got louder and louder, to the point where I was getting a headache. I was blocking my ears at one point, and could still hear the stream completely clearly...
Oh wait I remembered constructive criticism! Flashing on the lights in the club really bright when banelings are about to pop is a really bad combination with projection screens! Totally rethink that. Overall the light flashing was super jarring.
Awesome crowd turnout! I was a bit skeptical and so showed up from 5 till the end and the crowd was just amazing! Met a lot of nice people over there, and I definitely can't wait for Providence! For the sound, I was mostly standing toward the back of the bars, closer to the entrance and although loud it felt correct to reinforce the battles. For IdrA vs Bomber I was directly under one of the giant speakers above the floor and the bass was ginormous adding to the excitement. I can definitely understand groups of people around tables prefering to be able to talk to each other however.
Since I came later when they were showcasing only one game at the time I can't really comment about this, but if the turnout is greater for future events, it may be an interesting idea to use one of the other rooms to show the games from other streams. Also were the games on ultra setting? The stream broke up md IdrA vs Bomber and if I recall well the stream was set on high then. The smaller screen at the back of the venue was rather small also, making that one bigger would help those that are at a bad angle, if at all possible.
Cheers again for this great event Marko! I hope the staff had fun also with such a different crowd than usual!
Being there with everyone for idra vs bomber was an amazing, amazing moment

Speaking about sponsor, having Molson or any other beer company as a sponsor would be nice, so we could have cheaper beer :D Barcraft being about starcraft and gaming but also about alcohol ^^
Anyway big thank for the event, looking forward to Providence

Marko, as a suggestion, you should send the photos and videos to Blizzard. Hopefully they will see the size of the event and help us out.
Already on it
I DEMAND FREE STUFF.
I also demand players in master league should get free shots and free entry, subsidized by a progressive fee for entrance for lower league players. I prepared a chart for your consideration:
Masters: free and free shots and other free stuff Diamond: 15$ Gold-Silver: 20$ Bronze: 99$, must wear women's lingerie
(actually, it was a lot of fun without the swag already, but I imagine it would be off the wall with prize giveaways; I also think one stream was plenty, I can't imagine having a second stream up with the sound. Also, I agree that having a bit more sitting space would be good, though maintaining a good standing space where people must cram would be good since it kind of created a lot of the ambiance. also, a zerg finalist would be appreciated)

General feedback, the sound level was GREAT, the deep bass made it feel like the banelings were blowing up in the room was pretty awesome. The booze (though it may not be your call) should be a bit more generous, my vodka cranberry tasted only like cranberry. A lot of people felt the same, if I invest in 50$ worth of drinks and I'm not even remotely tipsy there's something wrong. The vibe was great, but definitely movement was limited. People can complain about space but that's theo ne thing you can't change, but some sort of organization so that there can be a sitting and standing section would be great. It would consolidate the people who don't want to move and allow those who wish to move around to do so as well. Good start on the giveaway, my only complaint is that I didn't get a flask I loved the energy that the organizer had at times it kept people into it, maybe find things to do during boring intermissions would be nice also.
And last but not least, do this again!
Great evening and saw a bunch of great people! Will definitely hit that shit up again!
This event was absolutely surreal. It went beyond my expectations, Montreal knows how to party! The sound system proved further how great the games were as well! I can't wait for the next event, and everyone keep spreading the hype! We're getting hyped on reddit and team EG just posted a twitter response on one of our videos!

Wow, we got easily 5+ pages of attention alone, and blew people's minds. I call that a major success!
Me and my friends really had a good time at event, and also made jealous a couple of friend who couldn't come! We'll be back for the next event for sure!
At first, I was kinda sad to only have access to one stream, but I think it was a great choice after all since it kept people together, and everybody was getting pumped up at the same time. One thing I would add is a projector that constantly displays the bracket and current results. Maybe by placing one in the small lounge, or by using the high projector in the main room (I don't think alot of people watched the games by looking at this projector since it was farther and darker than the other two..)
Also, the token system for the free drinks worked really well!

Damn straight! Really huge, I'm surprised MLG hasn't considered an event here.
Maybe after a couple events like this they'll consider it!
pretty sure it won't happen. Too complicated, all their staff is from US and they wouldnt want to hire staff only for a Montreal venue. I guess it would be more expensive and since MLG is US corporation, having an event in Canada would be shitty for them.
