Hey,
I was wondering, if there are any other SC2 -or eSports in general- fans in the City of Sudbury (Ontario Canada).
Now, personally, I have been working at Fnatic for the past 2 years, and have held positions at other professional organizations previously. I always make it a point to seek out fellow eSports enthusiasts.
For instance, apparently a guy in my program (BUAD at Cambrian College) is very into WoW, and even knows the eSports side of it.
I have also seen quite a few casual SC2 people playing in the cafeteria and made the point of going over to them and asking them a few questions (sadly, they knew nothing about eSports, but I did inform them!)
I also believe Masq lives in the Sudbury area, or at least I get that impression as he was looking for a ride to the GSL Finals get-together in Toronto for S2.
Anyway, I think it would be pretty kool to grow a local community here in Sudbury, pickings are pretty slim but...it would be sweet to have a community here to get some friendly LAN's going or even to setup a northern ontario GSL Finals watching group like they have in Toronto.
If so, make a post or you can PM me!
tl;dr version: If you live in Sudbury or close to Sudbury, would you be interested in making some sort of local community group to do some friendly LAN's or tournament viewings, etc. If so, make a post or give me a PM!

Same with North Bay or Timmins.
I am talking, anyone from the actual city of Sudbury or from a community that has public transit to Sudbury (no matter how bad).

SORRY! It's just so far you know? It would suck for you guys to have to come that far. If you would be up for it sure thing, that would be sick! I just wouldn't want to be like "hey lets get together for a LAN party or something" and then you drive like 3-6 hours and you don't have fun...thats all TT

haha, we're from the NORTH, man. I used to drive to Sudbury just to go to the mall and check out different stuff.

Yes I'm in Sudbury. If you get anything going or have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM. One of my ex-roommates played Broodwar (only around C level) but besides him, I don't know anyone who games in Sudbury.

Sudbury ontario here, born and raised.
Currently going to LU, 3rd year. What little free time I have is pretty much all SC2. I was a active BW player but was never very good, too young to work on things seriously.
You can blindly me count me in, schedule permitting, for any tournies/lans/ meet-ups about developing a community. The thought of it has actually been on my mind for awhile since I'd very much like to turn my SC2 playing into a serious hobby. LU has no CSI team and I very much doubt they'd have much interest in forming one.

I planted trees on your city grounds for Inco. We had to sneak in the back gate to avoid the lines of strikers, ha. I also did my laundry in a super sketchy laundromat across from a fortune teller this summer.

What internet do you guys use? I have been having such bad lag bouts with EastLink and Im not 100% sure its eastlink or its just my comp..but I just reformatted and ...it should be fine

Also in Sudbury (well, Azilda) and I've been toying with the idea of getting an e-sports scene going around here too.
I'm in my 4th year of Histoire at Laurentian and will probably be sticking around for my masters next year.
I know LU's population alone probably wouldn't support it, and I'm sure there are some people at Cambrian an Boréal who'd be interested in playing/watching tournies.

P.S. Fams I'm with Sympatico. However, I've got an old plan and I know the new ones are the same price (around 50$/month 100Mbps) but unlike my plan (unlimited DL) they have a 10GB DL cap which is not so great. That said you could give them a call anyway. It's pretty reliable.
As for EastLink, everyone I know who tries to game with them has problems. Though it could just be coincidence too.

I am trying to put together a LAN at L.U. I am trying to get in contact with the Computer Science department in order to handle things from a technical aspect. Their involvement will decide whether or not it will happen. Otherwise, I will try and arrange a viewing for one of the major GSL finals that will happen this year.

Hey Fams, just wondering if there had been any news about this with the C.S dept at LU so far? Who are you speaking with exactly?
Also, if you are wanting exposure and can assure that there will be a francophone presence, I can write up an article for L'Orignal déchaîné (the francophone newspaper) which I'm a part of. Since LAMBDA is right next door to our office, I could go have a word with them as well.
However, in order to print these articles, I'd need to have all the info on time.
For our January 20th issue, I'd need it for January 10th
For our February 17th issue, I'd need it for February 7th
For our March 24th issue, I'd need it for March 14th.
Basically, we need all articles in 9 days prior to publishing and since I'd have to write said article, I'd like to have an additional day to do so.
I know LAMBDA publishes a little bit more frequently (every 2-3 weeks or something like that). Either way, keep us posted here fams and I'll try to get some things going.

I'm from Sault Ste. Marie. I know a group of about 10 people that play SC2. We also love to watch SC2 on the weekends, in fact although I didnt get to go a group went to MLG this summer.
I know at least one carfull of us would come to watch some SC2 if there was a barcraft or similar event. It is a little far to drive just to LAN but we could communicate on bnet and such and maybe get together to watch some of the bigger tourney finals. Just an idea.
