So we have had a lot of tournaments in the past few months in the New England area. I have been lucky enough to be a part of a vast majority of them. Recently, I was made aware of a new LAN center in Haverhill, MA. It is designed mostly for consoles, atm, but I spoke with the owner at length and he is very interested in adding computers to his mix.
What I would like to do, is see what kind of interest we have in the area for a casual tournament at this location. It will be more like a real LAN where we would game, hang out and chat, as well as look into the potential for holding a real tournament on location. So this thread is to find out the interest in participating.
None of the specifics are figured out yet, but atm it is BYOC and laptops are preferred. There may also be conversation about a NE league... if I can get in contact with the guy that wanted to get it going that is. So, interest?

/me does count voice from Sesame Street
ONE! One post! ah ah ah!
It'd definitely be interested!
It would be awesome to start a NE league and I will def participate
Well judging by the boston SC2 thread I would say that people are very interested in this.
Unfortunately I'm going to be moving away before this gets started up.
Im interested, perhaps a NE star league would be great, I would love to see what we can do about that. . . .
haven't been able to make it out to any of the other NE lans a little to far for me to travel but this is a good distance you can bet ill be there.
Edit: extra idea we need to also try and find a place in or around the boston area i know a few people in that area who would be defiantly
i'd for sure be in,,, anythingt o increase NE community
Checked out the place myself. Although definitely set-up for console gaming, like Drogith said there's definitely the possibility that the owner will add computers.
I visited them and checked out their pricing and everything, it all looks very good. When I came in it was $5 for the day (which is super super cheap), I'm pretty sure that price should go up especially if he wants to bring in computers, but still even if were a few dollars more it'd be well worth our money.
They're open throughout the week from I think 5 in the afternoon to midnight (not entirely accurate). So if we keep showing interest, it'll be more likely that we'll have a nice LAN center in the future. We all got to remember that these leagues all originated from PC Bangs (although in Korea), so we got to do what we can to support them. If anything, we could be helping out the PC Bang culture in the US. I've been to other countries where their PC gaming centers are packed, like all day long, and it's a ton of fun to just be there.
Wow, this is a bigger reaction than I was expecting... which is awesome btw. I'll take a look at the calendar and figure out a date to set this up. Most likely it will be December 11th or 18th based on current tournaments in the area and ones that are possible.
In the meantime, to get the league on the roll, I need a few things from you guys to help out. Muzzy: Get in contact with Taylor(TheControl) and see how the website is going, since it was his initial idea and I want to know if we can present it. If not, we'll be looking for volunteers to help out there. Everyone else: Get the word out to people you know in NE and make sure to vote on a day (As if you didn't enough yesterday).
Poll: Which Saturday in December4th (1st weekend) (12) 50% 18th (3rd weekend) (7) 29% 11th (2nd weekend) (5) 21% 24 total votes Your vote: Which Saturday in December (Vote): 4th (1st weekend) (Vote): 11th (2nd weekend) (Vote): 18th (3rd weekend)
I am going to get in contact with the owner of Boomkin on Friday, after I have some poll results, to set everything up. I look forward to getting this ball rolling. As a side note we will be helping a LAN center get new legs
I'll see if I can get in touch with Control. I haven't seen him online as much lately...
how about start it next sept >.> when im back ok? thanks~~
5-1-0 I'll be calling the guy today and setting everything up. Like I had mentioned before, it is more console friendly and works good for laptops, so if you have a laptop that you wouldn't mind bringing in for yourself and others to use, please do so and PM me if you are. I'm going to see about bringing my PC in to hook up to one of the big screens.
Looking forward to it, This one is actually gonna be on dates I can attend (unlike the other New England LANs that have been going on). Thanks for doing all the hard work Drogith lol.
A lan in MA? Sweetness! I'd love to attend one.
This sounds pretty sweet.
Alrighty, so I just spoke with the manager about the 4th and we are all set. It will be more of a meet & greet type old school LAN than a tournament. He's going to start advertising in house about it as well as getting the local Gamestop in Plaistow, NH to help out (they have a small partnership). So this looks to be good. At the moment, prices for all day are up in the air for the event, but it looks like it may end up being ~$15 for the day. I'll have more information as we get closer.
@Logo: Not a problem at all.
I really want, and I know a lot of other people want, to see this evolve into a great community for New England. I have no problem leading the charge as long as you guys follow.
Alright, so we are going to start developing the website for the league. I need some help getting everything together and as of now I have 2 people willing to help with building the website. One of which I have asked to direct responsibilities. So what I need is maybe 2 more people with website/programming skills and 2 people that are good with graphic design. If you are interested, send me a PM so we can start moving forward and list what languages experience you have as well as a possible sample of your site/art.
Let's rock this puppy!
I would be interested as well. I haven't gotten the chance to attend any of the other LAN events yet due to scheduling conflicts (being a guitar player in a band that usually has shows on saturdays doesn't help) but I would like to try to make it to a few of them in the future.

Sounds great Drogith, this is where it all starts.
Looks like we may have our first sponsor for events: http://www.manapotions.com/ They do energy drinks that are shaped like red and blue potions. Talk about gamers eh? At the moment it is only a product sponsorship, but hopefully we can improve that to $$ if added into their advertising budget for next year. I have a feeling this will be how it starts for any sponsors we get, but Snuggles is right... THIS is how it starts!
So what does that mean for us and the LAN center? They donate their products for advertising or as part of the prize pool?
so pumped about all of this
Well, depending on what and how much they send us for product, it could be participation prizes or for 4th place etc... Much like how tourneys that are sponsored by comp gear companies give out mouse pads. The LAN center may pick up the product if it is well liked as well.
We still don't have any laptop offers for gaming. I did run by the place today and noted that they added a few more internet connections throughout the area and it looks like the 2nd floor is going to be setup as a large PC bank for big comp tourneys.
How is this coming along? Any scheduled events yet?
I'm down I live in plaistow and would love to come down and game, friggen sick guys. I'll put out a facebook status to all my local friends about it once we have details.
if anyones going from the southern ct area can they pm so we could maybe car pool

It's not so much a weekend conflict as much as other commitments being on the same days as these LANs. Every time there's been a LAN that I couldn't make, either the weekend before or after I'm usually free to go. Also, since I work part time in a grocery store, it's usually no problem to get any day off so it's just been bad timing. The only exception is the LAN in Maine this weekend since I'm in the middle of moving to a new house and haven't played in a couple of weeks.

I can understand that. I hope that in the future you will be able to take part in more events that get planned out. the major stuff will probly have about a 2mo lead time, so plenty of time to request a non-work day.
Alright, so I'm just waiting for a confirmation from the owner of the Boomkin gaming center, but as it stands, doors will open at 3p with $5 getting you a DAY PASS. BYOC if you can and laptops are preferable. There is a possibility of doors opening at 1:30p, again, waiting on the owner to get back to me.
Definitely interested in an MA lan center. Haverhill isn't far from Boston, and I know the neu and mit and harvard csl teams have been trying to find a good lan spot for friendlies and chilling
I hope this works out.
Im in Worcester. How bout the rest of you? :D
I'm near where 3 and 495 intersect.
Are you going to the tournament in Maine tomorrow?
Depending on work and grad school, hopefully I can make it. But I won't be playing - don't even have SC2 T_t.
Nah way too far of a drive for a poor college student like myself lazymacro lol
so is this even gonna be a tournament or just casual games
if so how will that even work cuz usually people just sit alone and play league of legends when they're not being forced to play in a tournament
I'm not speaking for Drogith nor the LAN center, but my understanding is that the LAN on the 4th is simply a LAN, and not a tournament. It's more to show the LAN center what type of interest there is for PC gaming.

I've actually only seen this happen at one tournament, and that was the first SC2 tournament that was held at G2 in Dover. Bitters is right though, it is more of a fun LAN to show the center how big the interest in PCs is as well as to get people acquainted with the center. If you want to set up a small tournament while we are there, you can. though unless more people bring their comps to share, you may be slightly hardpressed.
I am also trying to get the NESC2League website up and going before then so that we can really make it official. I am scheduled to chat with the webhost today about it all.
Confirmation is made! So we are all set for December 4th. Price of admission is $5 and we have run of the facility. Doors are opening at 1:30p for whomever wants to come in. The owner is looking into a one day beer/wine license for the LAN.
As far as the website goes, we have the domain and webhosting all set, now it's a matter of doing all the fun building stuff. I may need help from a forum guru if we have any? I'm trying to pull a string from my guild, but no promise there.
You know, work only wants to schedule me for 16 hours that week. The days I'm working would leave me plenty of time to actually make this, and my new computer can handle sc2 with decent graphics. I'd need an address for my gps, and I'll do my best to be there and show off my wood league skills (or lack thereof).
Address is 371 river st. Haverhill, MA.
Doesn't look like a bad drive for me according to a quick google check. Mind if I spread word about this among some other sc2 players I know?

That's a silly question Absofreaking-lutely. The more people we get involved in this local community league, the better. I don't care if your in paper airplane league fro placement. It is all good for everyone!
Tony is thinking about going to the event in Haverhill and checking it out We are having a tournament same prize pool as last weekend, and free food this time on Dec. 11th. Drogith will do the same honors broadcasting, and this time we have an awesome..make that incredible upload we just had to switch out the 300s for a gig router..
I meant that we are honored to have Drogith back..lol..not that he is honored..silly me..
is anyone else planning on playing anything else besides sc2 then? i'm up for anything
id love to make it but that weekend doesn't work for me hope you guys have a blast!
How are we looking as far as laptops/computers? If we're low on the count, I can bring my computer up to help facilitate more gaming.
I know we have my PC and there should be about 4 laptops from the local guys coming in. It would be really appreciated if you did bring yours. Too many is better than too few.
FAQ For Dec 4th LAN Is there a prize pool? Ther eis no prize pool as this is a "fun LAN".
"Fun LAN"? That sounds lame. I wanted to be able to get everyone from every rank involved in this get together, not just diamonds or people that want to see how they do in the competitive scene. Plus, a larger showing of numbers gives our friends at Boomkin a reason to expand up for lots of computers.
What does BYOC mean? Bring Your Own Computer. As of right now, the LAN center is console centric. There are plenty online hookups to connect to and we have full use of the facility. But in order to play SC2, we will have to connect ourselves. I will personally be bringing my PC for other people to use.
What is the NESC2League? The New England Starcraft 2 League is our community. Right now a website is being put together as a central location for all of us to go to and find out about happenings in the area. It will also be the heart of a mini circuit that is being setup across New England to end in a big championship of sorts.
What do you mean by a mini circuit? Well, there are currently 3 LAN centers in MA, NH, and ME that want to participate in a larger tournament structure. There will be a tournament held at each location. The top 3 players of each tournament will not be able to play in the other 2, but will have no restrictions form any other activity we do. These 9 players will be seeded for a final tournament. A final fourth tournament will be held in one of the previous locations on a Saturday to find the last 7 of players. The next day will be 16 man tournament to determine a champion with a larger prize pool to be awarded. As of right now, this could be done twice a year.
Why should I do the ladder matches? Does it cost anything? It costs nothing to join the ladder, however the ladder system is not up and working yet. Once it is up, there will be a weekly Bo3 match setup against another member. The top 2 players on the ladder(that have not placed in a tournament) will be automatically added to the player list and the Saturday tournament will only result in 5 players moving on.
So how much does the Dec 4th LAN cost? The LAN costs $5 and you have full use of the facilities. Doors will open at 1:30p.
Where is Boomkin? Boomkin Gaming Center is at 371 River St. in Haverhill, MA. Getting there is very easy from most directions. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=371 river st. haverhill, ma&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=371 River St, Haverhill, MA 01832&gl=us&ei=aO7qTJzXIMP58AbnttihCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBoQ8gEwAA If you take the train from Boston it is the last stop. Go down the stairs/hill and take a right. Boomkin will be about 1 mile on your right.
Can I ask you another question? Yes
1 week until the event. I hope to see you all there!
how many computers are we gonna have exactly i really dont feel like bring my huge computer but i'll do it if i have to
I don't know exactly, but I do know for certain that there are about 5 people bringing laptops and I will be bringing my personal PC for people to use. I have a large tower myself and I think SC2Force is bringing his PC as well. If anyone else is bringing a pc or laptop, please PM me so I can give a good number. I will also check with Boomkin to see if they have invested in any PCs yet.
Hey Drogith. If you need some graphics for the page let me know. You can pm me on here. I may also be attending the CCG Lan.

Just saw this post. I've never done the LAN thing before if I bring my pc will there be people there to help get it all working with the net?
Of course.
Edit: I'm coming, probably with my laptop. I might be bringing some friends as well.
On December 04 2010 06:05 mechavoc wrote: Just saw this post. I've never done the LAN thing before if I bring my pc will there be people there to help get it all working with the net?
Absolutely. I remember one tournament I went to a while back in Kittery it took us about 90 minutes to get everything set up, but we did it. They had a crazy firewall anyway that wasn't needed.
I just picked up one of our sponsors products from the post. It's energy drinks called manapotions and I have 6 health and 6 mana pots. Some of you guys should try it out at the LAN, might get a better deal next time XD
Hopefully next time it'll be a prize sponsorship. Any sponsorship is appreciated, but their ultimate goal with a sponsorship is more product advertisement, and the best way to get the largest audience of potential customers is to draw them to the event with more money.
I guarantee you if the prize pool was $5000 we'd be doing 64 player tournaments or something.
Is there any plan to let the sponsor know about the turnout and why they should keep sponsoring the events or the league as a whole?
Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it after all. I injured my wrists at work last week, was hoping they'd be better by this weekend. Sadly all day sc2 isn't conducive to letting them heal up. Hopefully I'll be good to go and hang out in Standish next weekend.

Yes there is. I have a new email at the website that will be provided for us and I have already started making a business contact list. The rep from mana potions is a Protoss player btw XD But I have a little something planned at the event that should give those who choose to check it out a good idea of whats going on. *wink*nudge*
I'm sad to hear that dukat, but I'll see you in Standish next weekend.
Are you still giving us a presentation on the league and such?
Shush, you'll ruin the surprise
hey i just woke up this morning with an awful sore throat and headache
it may sound like im making up some excuse not to go but i really want this lan center to work out, i hate driving to dover/maine to go to these things and haverhill is only a half hour from my house so i really really hope this works out. sorry guys.

Well, you guys are certainly using a well named LAN center. I nearly spat out what I was drinking when I read "Boomkin Lan center"

I'll start to get in on this later (December's a little busy for me, so I won't be able to do much) if I'm close enough to Haverhill. Where is it (like, surrounding towns/what state is it in).
Haverhill is in MA. It's right off of 495 by Lawrence and Plaistow, NH
I'm planning to get there a little early so I should see some of you then. I'm bringing my laptop, too, by the way.

I want to thank everyone that participated in yesterdays event for showing up. Almost all of you brought PCs/laptops to the event and we even managed a crazy FFA as well as helping out some of our bronze players with improving their game. I am slightly disappointed that the college guys didn't make it up on the train. Boom kin looks to be a great place for tournaments as long as they get the back room setup and filled with PCs. By my guesstimate they could probably get 20+ in there comfortably.
For everyone that did participate, or was unable to, please head over to the official New England SC2 League website to hear about when and where our first tournament circuit location will be and remember to sign up for the forums. Having an account on the forums will be the only way to participate in the ladder when it comes out.
What happened to all the college kids?
I don't think i am one of the college kids he is referring to, but i know i wasn't able to make it out to this because its the end of the semester and i have finals coming up. I do hope to make it out to some lans next semester i'm hoping there can be one in the worcester/boston area.

Haverhill is the closest LAN to the Boston/Worcester area that I am aware of that can support/will have computers to run a tournament or LAN.
Hello all Drogith thanks for setting that up, was a lot of fun! Loved the FFA, I was bummed I had to leave early.
So when is the next LAN ?? Also next time if anyone needs a ride from Boston, let me know.
I sent the LAN centers an email to try and arrange the dates for the circuit dates. Once they get back to me, I'll be able to give you guys a heads up on any official ones. I do know there is a tournament in Standish, ME on Saturday the 11th. After that, I don't think anything else is setup just yet.
Enjoy your holidays and make sure to join the NESC2League forums if you haven't already. I'll be keeping things posted on TL, but the website is where I will keep the NE centric stuff. http://www.nesc2league.com
