Hi everyone,
I would like to start the Concordia Starcraft Community. I have spoken with CSU and I will have the paperwork finalized by this Friday, October 8th. They'll look at the approval by month end.
Basically, my goal for the club is the following;
Weekly hang outs where all Con U students and Alumni can meet up, talk starcraft do analysis and if given the resources, play matches.
As well, if this club materializes and has a strong following, I would love to take it to the next level and arrange a team tournament vs other universities as well. McGill has a starcraft team, and I'm sure others do as well. Concordia shouldn't be left in the dark!
Right now, all those Con U future students, current students, alumni who would be interested post here! Right now, I don't know how much wiggle room I'll have with the actual club name, but throw me your suggestions by Thursday night and hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement.
I go AFK for a few days, and other people get the club started for me. Awesome. :D
I'm up for helping out a crapload - I've only got three courses at the moment, so I have a lot of free time. I also know of a few people who love starcraft (2) but who don't have accounts on TL. I'll tell them the good news.
The club name should be something simple and straight to the point. Concordia Starcraft Club/League/*Insert Personal Preference Here*.
Great to see this getting going I'm totally commited and ready. I suggest the name to be something straight to the point. Also something friendly. We don't want to exclude anyone.
I think that it would be cool to keep it as simple as possible that way everyone feels welcome. If we later decide that a group of us want to put together a team then we can. Might want to keep that seperate from the actual group we will hopefully set up as not everyone may want to be part/play competitvely? Just thinking out loud.
I think the team part is just a joke and nothing serious or with substance. I think we'll start with just SC2 and then maybe expand to generally competitive gaming, etc. One step at a time guys :B

But i don't think i would be missing much since making a club can take a shitload of time : / my friend at vanier was trying to start a metal club the entire semester and we just now got a room and still got no budget, plus its burrowed so we only get to go there once a week

If this club gets up and going, I would make top priority to have a room dedicated to Starcraft, where on breaks or waiting for classes or if you hungover on the weekend and play SC with other CON U guys.

She's never played an RTS game before, and I'm not sure she'll understand the mechanics by the time the first meeting comes around, but I'm sure she would catch on soon enough if some Concordian gentlemen gave her a hand.

Ah. I've never organized a LAN myself, so I didn't know how much of a hassle it could be. That sucks. We'll have to brainstorm at the next meeting, then!

UPDATE: Right now, going through 2 threads and the several PM's... we currently have 19 potential /interested members I don't want to jump the gun, but that's only after a couple of days of just posting on these two threads on TL.
I'd spread the word but most of the people I've met so far at Concordia are girls that well...They don't have much interest in SC2..if I see some potential people I'll totally smack them in the face and tell them to join us.
RefusedAmen: send me a PM or something once we've got confirmation on where the meeting is going to be. I'll make some posters and put them around the downtown campus. Hopefully some other Starcraft players will see them and show up.

I also wanted to know through what form of digital communication are you guys most comfortable with? While we can use this topic or another as sort of the "HUB" for all things related to this community, events, etc, I don't think it'd be very organized or easy to grasp.
There's also Steam that is fairly easy and understandable, but it requires installing the steam program.
We can use Facebook as well [I don't personally use it], but I have no idea how it works [but I'm sure you guys do, etc.].
Anyways, just wanted to get some ideas from you all :3

Btw, funny story : I was "supposely" studying with a friend today in his association office at concordia and some guy came in (sorry I forgot your nickname :/ ) and asked us if he were at the good place for the starcraft 2 meeting. When I heard this, My first thought was "Raptor jesus definitely exist". So I joined the meeting for like half an hour and met RefuseAmen (who is actually a good speaker :D ) and the others players. Too many terrans in my opinion (I mean > 0 ) but i dealed with it.
Long story short, I'm very excited about your project, and very interested to create a similar one in UQAM if no one didn't started it yet (yeah, let's bring some french touch in the place ). At the moment, I don't have my own computer and my elbows are deep in educational shit [does anyone know where and how to find scholarly articles? So I'm not the only who is feeling the crapstorm of work. You should be able to access online databases from home. You have to do something via clues though to get it to work. I belive you have to go to the concordia lib website and make a pin? or something. Then when you head to moodle (or wherever you want to go to access your database..I've had teachers link me to databases in moodle only reason I use it. generally it's still done through the lib) it should prompt you for your netname and password AS well as the pin you created. Once you type that all in it should allow you access to the database....I think this is how it works...correct me if I am wrong anyone. Hope this helps.

School is important, I did game (not nearly as competetively as you) during my years @ uni and survived. But listen, if you become a part of our community, I'm sure we can help you out with your studies somehow, either through tutoring, advice and there have been rumors, if you wear Nirano's underpants during the next MLG, he'll do your hw for 3 years.

Since you take SC very seriously, I really think our community can benefit you a lot. Hope to see you at the next meeting. I want to form a sort of brother/sisterhood between everyone, everyone helping eachother out someway. The more people who join, the better off we all are.

Sadly I will not be able to attend anything that will go on this weekend. I have to babysit my old dog at our country house in upstate NY. She's an old girl at 12 years old and 120 lbs....She has no movement in her back hips at all and so bringing her into the city isn't an option anymore. I asked Matt to come over to my place to check it out and make sure all my parts and configuations are up to snuff to how the PC should perform [I'm not a PC whizz, I just know a little more than a middle-aged man or woman who just discovered the wonders of technicolor!, but if someone else has the free time between their classes to visit me [or I can meet them at Concordia and we head back to my place (implied sexual intention not intended) when my PC arrives to double-check it, I'd appreciate it (I live right by the Bell Centre, those new condos is where I live) and can offer lunch or a drink or something [my fridge is empty, so we'd either have to stop by the supermarket, depanneur or a restaurant, whatever].

Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to invite anyone interested to NFusion; a gaming cafe I own and operate in Ville St. Laurent; right next to Cote Vertu metro. The place has existed for the last five years but I just bought it this past November; made a ton of changes to the place; its really gaming oriented now; we have 20 Phenom powered black edition quad core CPUs with ATI HD 5770 GPU; all reserved for GAMING ONLY. We're open 24 hours; and have all sorts of gamers.
I particularly have an interest in Starcraft II; and am hoping to run in-house tournaments starting next tuesday; every tuesday. The hope is, we do a ladder style event that goes on for several weeks; at the end of which players play for cash prizes. To start things off though we'll give away free time to players who win their matches on those tournament nites. Like I said, I want to make it a weekly thing; with the final hope though that within one or two tournament seasons I could assemble a team to sponsor for official tournaments. We already have tournaments going on every Monday and Wednesday for CS and DotA respectively and am sure that we could accomodate another nite of tournaments in our schedule.

A few professional players go to this event and LANETS garners to a lot of players of various games. I contact Daniel about the whole affair and as soon as he responds, I'm sure you'll get a reply too!
To answer your first question: We're currently being provided computers from our student union to use at the school. The details are still being sorted out, but we hope to achieve some form of an agreement.
Lastly, UQAM and ULaval are both trying to gather more players and members from their own respective universities, both places you might find some guys interested as well!

Nah, like we had a couple of guys either telling us to get off the computers and go outside (the table next to us was a ski thing and they were jelly because we were getting so much more people! Like literally we had a round of people and no one would go to their's)

nothing special about their burgers that would make them particularly "korean"; but they're really good and good price; always ask for the sirloin burger!
They do however have pick on a stick; which is basically a pogo with crazy potato bits sticking out from it; think really painful dildo but tasty!
They are really good and not too far from Concordia, but it's not anything like an actual Korean BBQ. It's also pretty small, I'm not sure how long it would take for an order for 10 or more people.

My heart skipped a beat when I noticed the topic was on the top of this sub-forum. Usually only I post (but a lot of people read).
I have been messaging some of the other Central Canadian communities about a tournament that I am planning on organizing. Right now I have it as a Charitable even for the victims of Japan, BUT if you guys think that it would be a better idea for the proceeds to go to 1st/2nd/3rd let me know, I will go with whatever the consensus is. I know it would be quite a distance from MTL to Toronto, but if I was able to get a large enough prize pool or have some pro players/casters attend would you guys be interested in attending.
Another idea I had was to put a Best in Central Canada consisting of teams from each major city to compete in the tournament, but I am not sure if that would be well received.

This is just our last "official" meeting until next September, since school is letting out. However, I know that a bunch of people (myself included) are staying in Montreal for the summer. Try giving our forums a glance - we usually organize practice sessions there.

I already have my grand master and another master as well as a couple of diamond players; still looking for more people to fill up the roster.

The video from Barcraft Montreal (MLG Providence) is finally released courtesy of CUTV!
There is some more updated information about the club there, though the meeting times and places may be changed for this semester, nothing is yet finalized in that respect.
I hope that the Concordia Starcraft Community can garner ever more interest around the school!
