I created a thread in the past to gather together the SC players of the University of Texas at Austin. Now that we have a handful of people, it's time to start considering the CSL.
Yeah, you know you wanna rep this place
The CSL is the Collegiate Starleague. Teams all across America will soon compete in SC2 combat, representing their respective colleges, in order to assert dominance, and to spread the good of e-Sports everywhere.
So for anyone who goes to, or will be going to, UT this upcoming semester, please consider joining. Any further questions can be PM'd to me, and I will work to resolve them as quickly as possible. If you aren't 100% sure about joining because you feel you aren't good enough, don't worry about that. It is all friendly competition, and I'm sure the team would be glad to take members of all skill levels. As a team, we help one another get better. And we can have some fun along the way.
EDIT: If you are interested in joining, or joining in the future, please post your name, username.id, race, and ranked league as well. Thanks! ^^
PLEASE NOTE: Final CSL team is not set. These are simply the names of those who have shown interest in being part of the team. We are definitely open to anyone else who wants to join, so please do so!

Petey (itzme_petey) has agreed to train with us. He was the previous UT CSL coordinator, so everyone would do well to become familiar with him in the near future. ^^ Be sure to say hello and play a few games sometime!
I'd like to sign up as a practice partner. At UTA currently, so I can't compete but I don't mind helping, and I could use some good practice. Was 300 diamond till I hit a terran wall and tilted pretty badly. Currently mid plat, can play all 3 races at plat level.

Hey, I'm staying at Dobie Center this year, so if anyone else is staying there, let me know!
I should be sending in the request to make the official club/group soon. It takes two weeks to process so I'll try to get it in asap. Anyone who wants to be among the first to be officially signed up should let me know. The group will (likely) be called "UT e-Sports." Everyone should go check out the facebook page for the basic information about the group.
I'll hopefully be getting something together soon so we can meet up and talk CSL. Maybe just a lunch meet-up. If anyone has an idea of a place we can get together to play, we could do that as well.

Yeah, I'd really like to be able to draw all of the competitive gaming community in UT together. In addition to this, an e-Sports group is much more marketable to new students than a group solely focused around SC2. The e-Sports booth is going to be the best booth next year around.

Welcome! Be sure to join the e-Sports and StarCraft group on FB in time!
We will be having an informal meeting this Sunday, 8/29/10, in the Texas Union lobby at 5PM. The meeting itself won't be in the lobby, but we'll meet up there first and then find an empty room we can use to discuss the future of CSL and UT e-Sports. I hope to see you all there!
Also, please join the FB group(s) on the bottom of the OP, as they are the best way to receive updates about all e-Sport related goodness going on at UT. PM me if you'd like my cell number in order to contact me. Hope to see you all there!
For anyone who hasn't heard, we will be having a quick informal meeting Sunday evening (tomorrow) in the Texas Union at 5:00pm to discuss our plans for CSL and the semester. We'll be meeting in the main lobby (closest to west mall and the Starbucks) and go from there.
Also, just to reiterate, nothing is solidified yet. If you are interested in being a part of the fun this semester but haven't posted here or on the facebook page yet, I encourage you to do so!
Just a reminder, the first (un)official UT e-Sports meeting will be at 5PM TODAY in the Texas Union lobby (closest to west mall and Starbucks). Be sure to come, and bring your friends.
Howdy T-sippers! Just a bit of friendly advice from A&M: You suck. But don't quit now, because we will enjoy beating you this season. Interested in a little friendly competition sometime? PM me and we can set it up.

Hello there, Mr. treekiller! An exhibition match sounds like a most excellent idea. Let's try to set something up for the near future. ^^
I know someone who goes to UT who apparently has been keeping the SC Fridays alive for more than a year now. We used to play in Jester West Basement (where the pool tables are) though I'm not sure if they still play there. I believe Wilfred Hung is the guy who has been running them still. Pretty casual but lots of fun.

hi. I'm rhombus.178. I'm platinum right now, but i don't have many games played - i don't know if i quite belong there. i played a lot of protoss, am dabbling in zerg, spend a lot more time playing starcraft than studying, and need to practice more.
We have been challenged, and we will prevail: I’m pleased to announce our very first show-match series of the season!
University of Texas vs. Texas A&M This Sunday – September 12, 2010 9:00pm on Battle.net
The format for this series will include (depending on the available number of players): · Five 1v1 matches · One 2v2 match · One 1v1 ace match · All games will be played out, regardless of the outcome
(If you aren't getting emails, just let one of us know.)

I set up a stream through livestream.com if we want to use that. I know some other people have also mentioned about streaming though so i know there are some options. Just another option that we have I suppose lol.
Standard 1v1 Set: 1v1: FluX v. Nova -- FluX (UT) Win 1v1: ReAson v. Ares -- ReAson (UT) Win 1v1: Macht v. mOnion -- Macht (UT) Win 1v1: Gamble v. Sojourner -- Gamble (UT) Win 1v1: marvin v. Macro -- marvin (UT) Win
2v2 Game: 2v2: Maestro and Gamble v Macro and Sojourner -- A&M Win Ace Match: 1v1: marvin v. Hysteria -- Hysteria (A&M) Win Final Score: Texas: 5 A&M: 2
Excellent job, Texas! We managed to sweep the 1v1 matches, quite the accomplishment. We will be working to cast and upload these games in the next few games. We have a Rice showmatch planned 2 weeks from now. If you are interested in playing, contact myself, FluX, or IndecisivePenguin.

I can understand some team rivalry, but you're crossing the line big time...
I just wanted to say that during the cast, the caster was just being BM the entire time. It really just made it really unejoyable to watch at certain points.
Not sure, it was like "Stoic" or something like that. I mean, I only watched one match, but it was really not cool to hear just negative/bashing comments while everyone is trying their best to represent their school.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of this style of commentary either, regardless of the relationships the caster might have with the players.

The guy you were talking about is called Stoids. I don't see the problem with the comments he was making. What I would complain about is that he MISSED ALL OF THE MAJOR BATTLES.

Hah, this is true as well.
I was watching the stream, but I kept having to ask Flux, who was in-game, what was happening on different parts of the map (like when I saw an unobserved battle occurring on the minimap).
Do you have to be a UT student to go the meeting mentioned above? I go to Texas State University nearby, and I'm looking to get into and help establish a competitive SC2 scene here in the central Texas area. I have a history playing competitive CS and CS:S, and I remember the LAN scene in Texas was big there for a while. I'd like to see something similar for SC2, and I believe there is a community for it.
For instance, if you look at what's going on today. There are three different regional LANs going on around the country, ranging from 32 players to 120 players. All of which have small entry fees to cover the LAN center and the prize pool. I think a similar event could take place in Austin considering it's the silicon valley of the South. Thoughts?

Hey, feel free to come join us for the meeting! I completely agree with you that working toward those types of events would be very worth while. Your enthusiasm for our shared vision is much appreciated.
One of our big organizational goals for the semester is to host a couple large scale tournaments, both for UT students and for anyone who cares to come (hopefully involving other Texas Universities). We're doing our best currently to foster the community necessary to pull these off successfully and hopefully will begin planning for our first event soon.

Thanks much, we all appreciate it. Luckily, reports are saying that no one other that the shooter is seriously hurt or dead. There were rumors of a second shooter, but SWAT teams cleared all of the buildings and escorted all of the students that were stuck in classrooms out safely. It was a crazy day with the campus wide lockdown, but luckily it looks like everything is now clear. Such a close call.
Holy shit guys I just heard about some shooting at Texas. I don't know much about it but I hope everyone is alright. WTF is wrong with people shooting up schools such bullshit. My prayers are with all of you.
Thanks to everyone for a successful first meeting! For anyone who isn't yet on our mailing list, message me and I will add you. If you do not have access to a copy of the first meeting's minutes (PowerPoint .pdf), let me know and I will get that to you too.

In addition, there were a lot of new faces today who came by because of flyers or friends. I hope our group continues to grow healthily throughout its run (which will hopefully be eternity).
For everyone who didn't manage to make it today, have no fear! I have attached the pdf copy of our PowerPoint from today. If you have any specific questions about certain slides or anything, feel free to contact me, Tyler, or Adam.
Here are some of the important points from our meeting:

I was looking at the rules and it says you can play if you are attending a smaller local university that is affiliated-- such as ACC or Texas State.
Hey Mike, I'm glad your interested! Talk to "kilgore" here on the TL forums -- I know he is really interested in SC2 at Texas State. If you guys can't get a team put together, I'll ask for more details on the affiliation!
