Yes, yet another thread inquiring about people living in the __Ottawa__area. For some odd reason, I feel the need to state that Ottawa is a city in Ontario, which is a province of Canada, which is north of USA.
I'm not sure if this is the forum to post this sort of thing, but I've seen numerous other similar threads, and figured I'd give it a shot.
I'm noticing I have a fairly limited group of friend who play SC2, and by fairly limited, I mean I know 1 person. I'd be interested in setting up a get together, or just organizing some games, or basically just play SC2 with people nearby.

We could try one out at my house. BUT. People would need to figure out a ton of things. It would be, bring your own, mouse/keyboard/computer/monitors/power cables/tables(LOL), and there are two seperate takeout places within ten minutes and one is about 30 seconds away. But yeah, anyone with a car, and the will power to bring enough tables. I have a basement with wide open space, drinking would be allowed. All cake's would be welcome. I also have a 42inch TV we could watch any finals on, whether it be MSL/OSL, or just the SCII LAN finalists. Haha. Just throwing this out there, if any of you guys have the resources. I have the exact same Modem that TheLardyGooser has btw.
Things I do have
Power bars, power outlets, big screen TV, 3 monitors total, 1 modem which may work if tested beforehand for how many sc2 clients could connect to it. 2 close by pizza/other restaurants, and 1 corner store about 35 seconds away (next door to the closest pizza place). One we would order from, the other you can do walk in specials, but they close rather early. 11pm if not mistaken.

cool, well we've got a handful of people so far, but I think there's more people out there. Kennigit said something about BW lans before, but I haven't heard anything else about it. I was thinking we could all get together and either play a little tourny (with like a 2$ entrance, all of which is split into the 1st, 2nd, 3rd pot) and watch some high level tourny action, something to that effect? Lots of people in Ottawa but they're all terrible noobs and faggots. Especially the guy that goes by Boo-B[OU] (he goes by Chef or something equally stupid an unimaginative on this forum). He's an awful SC player and an even worse human being, I can't stand that guy GOD. The next worst is dRaW. I will have a very large appartment in Hull (good walking distance from the university) for the 24th, but there is no furniture and almost no computer I'm not sure if it's the best place for MSL finals.

OK so first of all, not interested in only assembling the best of the best. Dont care about what league you're in, dont care about how many OSLs you've won, dont care what team you're on, don't care how many posts you have. All I'm interested in if there's a passion to set up some motherducking get togethers.
Horrible human beings I do care about though, so if (censored) doesnt work out, then we'll come up with something else. I haven't been in the SC scene, and I'm only getting into the SC2 scene recently, as of the past 3 months or so. I dont want to hear about your grudges between eachother, but am only interested in setting up some sort of friendly arrangement where we can get together, eat pizza, drink beer (maybe) and play/watch some sc2.
As for assembling mad nerd style, that exactly what I'm talking about. There's nothing wrong with being a nerdling! Especially with the pizza upgrade. I'm so down with setting something up if we can find the place for it, and the interest.

Of course I still play BW..... I mean, just last week, I was preparing an awesome ZvZ strat for my CSL game. Simon can vouch for me on how awesome it was.

@Impervious - Watch out, ella_guru will destroy you with his newfound timer program thing macro powers. Frankly, you don't stand a chance, as he's climbed out of the D- ranks with his new powers. You might want to ban third party programs in your match against him. Even have a spy to make sure he doesn't use any sound hacks
@ella_guru - Against 2 hatch mutas, or any zerg build that's not 4 pool, you want to build valkeries. Easiest way to do this is to learn proper ling tight wall offs, and do 1 factory vulture expand. I don't think standard 1 rax expo gets valks on time for 2 hatch, but you can just throw down lots of turrets until you do get valks. This opens up the skies for a firebat drop, and on maps like Python where there's an island base, it opens up an easy third (easily defendable through valks). The easy third that the dropship enables allows an extra CC to put your nuclear silo on, and if you're playing a map that doesn't have an easy third, you'll have to kill your second comsat. If you want, you can drop 4 bats and 1 tank instead of a mostly bat dropship. This way, you can tank the nat, and when they run the drones back into the main, they are stacked and get firebatted. The dropship also opens up avenues for nuking, and valks protect you from overlords. And I had no idea you were listening to my conversations with Cake about Yugioh

I think you have to pick one and stick with it, unfortunately.
We had the same problem last season with dRaW being on a joint program between Carleton and Ottawa U. He had to stick with Ottawa.
I mean, it makes complete sense for it to be that way, but it's still unfortunate having to choose between which school's team to be on.

Unfortunately, Ottawa and Carleton are not in the same category in the 'official' rankings, Ottawa being classified as a medical school and Carleton as a comprehensive school. This makes it impossible to compare them to each other directly using those rankings. Ottawa placed ninth and Carleton seventh overall in their respective groups, but they're not being compared to each other, only to others in the same category.
Since I wasn't claiming Carleton was a good university, only that Ottawa was worse, those rankings don't really make a point for either side.
The student response polls, on the other hand, allow the two universities to be compared directly, since they are all grouped together. Out of nine main questions, Carleton placed above Ottawa in seven. Ottawa placed in the bottom ten in nearly every single poll.
In the additional web-only questions, Ottawa placed last or second last in five out of seven polls, and lower than Carleton in every single poll.
Some particularly noteworthy ones were:

I'd like to know how you decided that judgemental questions such as those posed in the questions are of any value when people rarely actually attend multiple universities, so they can't even get a proper comparison.....

That chart is based on the reputations university's have from business, university, and high school officials, not on hard data. I don't see how the opinions of those people are any more or less relevant than the opinions of the students who go to the school.
Ottawa is perceived as better than Carleton by those people because it has a med school and more graduate programs (ie. it's part of the medical/doctoral group of schools, not the comprehensive). The only non-med school in the top ten is Waterloo. And we all know how insanely hyped-up Waterloo's reputation is.
In the actual data based polls, Waterloo doesn't even come first in it's category. But it's so known for being 'cutting-edge' that it gets #1 on the reputation poll anyway.
The hard data rankings are by far more useful than the reputation or student response polls, but as I mentioned before, Carleton and Ottawa are in different categories for those.
From what I can see, the rankings tell us the following:
In terms of actual data Carleton and Ottawa cannot be directly compared, but both are about average in their category.
You may find it easier to get a job with a degree from Ottawa, because, as a medical/doctoral school, it has a moderately better reputation than Carleton.
However, if your experience as a student is average, you would regret choosing to go to Ottawa and be very unsatisfied with the education you received, as opposed to being fairly ambivalent about the choice to go to Carleton.
Also, if you choose Ottawa, you'll do much better overall in CSL, but you'll be the only team to lose an ace match to Carleton. :D

While I can't speak for the quality of education since I've only experienced Waterloo, I have met lots of other students who have been from other universities (since I do waterloo engineering, I do alot of co-op).
I'll say this: On average they're about as smart as my friends from Waterloo and perhaps know about as much(this is hard to judge, but there is not a huge gap) but noticeably less professional and the work is more polished (probably because we have so much work experience). Employers like that.
Remember, you're going to university so that you can get a job after. That's your goal. That's why employer rankings are perhaps the most important rankings of all, unless you decide to attend grad school (in which case nobody is going to look at your undergrad anyways).
But there should be an event in Ottawa before the end of the month! After all, when you're back in school alot of people will have less time to devote to Starcraft >_>

I live in Ottawa. I go to Ottawa U, which is why Carleton sucks. If I went to Carleton, Ottawa U would suck, that's how it works. Anyway I'm a bronze player but I mostly do 2v2s with another friend from here so not really interested in getting my ass kicked constantly by you guys.

I've been forum lurker for a while now and am a student at the University of Ottawa. I used to play on iccup occasionally and was C- on the ladder. However, I haven't played any starcraft since the starcraft 2 release because I have been busy with the map editor.

There won't be a broodwar CSL next year? Why would they go from a well balanced and competitive game to a poorly balanced game with a poor map pool? That sort of defeats the purpose of having a broodwar team.

Hey guys. We should get something going soon on a weekend, and all of us play a few hours at some cafe. Never been to one, but would be nice to meet some of you. Ok guys, me and Kuo have been talking about having a LAN at a PC Cafe. The best places, unfortunately, are not near any of the campuses. They are either in Orleans or Kanata. Both are accessible by bus. So, we leave it up to you guys, as to which one we will host it at.

The speed and service itself is decent. But the price for what we get is a very bad ratio when compared to other established countries. It's doesn't bother me at all, I don't know anything different and I'm satisfied. I dl lots of torrents, music, streams, etc. and it does it all just fine.
