And is anybody else up for practicing and coaching? also the Gaming and electronics expo wants to do something with SC2 maybe even have a SC2 tournament in the middle of july. http://www.geexshow.com/ or so i'm told by someone on the inside.
I've organized cybergaming events before. I began in high school when I hosted a BW tournament for the school. We were not allowed to award cash but we gave out about 1000 dollars in product as prizes. There was a registration fee for the event to cover expenses. Recently I assisted in the organization of CyberDayz at UNLV. We had 59 participants in the Warcraft 3 division and gave away two Logitech G19s, a full suite of Razer peripherals (megalodon, lycosa, imperator, destructor) was the grand prize. We also awarded SC2 Beta keys as door prizes and had a lot of fun.
If you have questions about promotion, prize support, organization, or bracketing, I'd be happy to help.

Azerbaijan I can give you a beta key since I got 2 friend invites and have given only 1 of them away so far. The problem is I already added that beta key to a b.net account (which I don't ever use) so you'd have to type in the long email address every time you log onto the beta.

Sounds like a most minor inconvenience. I will accept your offer on the grounds that you are absolutely sure you don't have any friends who still need a key =D

I live down in the Provo/Orem area. I would be totally down for a SC2 'lan'. It has actually been something I've wanted to do since I heard they announced SC2.

i might have some extra keys to use, but you can get your own by reserving a copy of the game.

Don't worry about it. I just gave him a beta key so now everyone can be happy.

Currently in Cottonwood Heights as well but will be moving to South Jordan in a few weeks. Weird this topic just came up because I was just thinking about this today. I'd be down with a LAN. BYOC? Dokkaebi.artsong
BTW it's cool to see just how many Utahns actually play SC/SC2....I thought I was a lone ranger in this state lol!!!

surprised to see so many responses

ya this would be way cool someone should put together a tourney for sure count me in + couple friends

Back in 2007 Gamespot did some research that showed SLC has the most gamers per capita and also EA Games has one of its headquarters here, afaik its the only EA studio that is expanding and not laying off. So its not THAT surprising that a lot of us play SC/SC2, to me its surprising that this many of us were online on the same website to see this thread before it got buried.

hey, i registered with TL just now bc im in SLC and would always be down for some sc2. dont have beta, but really want to get in on some SC2 action. help a brother out.

I just emailed that geexshow.com to see if the expo at South Towne Expo Center on July 16th/17th will have SC or SC2b included. I'll let you know what I find out. Maybe that would be our "LAN" party. Being 10 days before the release of SC2, I am doubtful that it will have anything SC2 related. But maybe if we all email them and say we want to see SC2b in the expo we could motivate them to include it. It appeared that most of the tournaments and games were Counterstrike, Halo, Guitar Hero, etc.
I'll keep you posted on their response!
UPDATE:
Here's the email I just got:
Thanks for contacting us!
Yes! We'll be having a Starcraft 2 beta tournament at GEEX 2010. Tournament rounds will be held in the LAN area with finals up on the main stage. We plan on having registration up on the website soon as well as rules, prize details, etc.
You can also follow us on twitter @geexshow for updates as well as check out the Facebook fan page and listen to the podcast.
We'll see you at the show!

Also live in the Cottonwood area and playing SC2 (top 5 gold 1's, top 5 platinum in 2's). Would love to game up some SC2 or HoN with some locals.
GEEX could work as a great venue but given that it's not until the middle of July maybe we could organize something else in the meantime? I might be willing to host something at my place but couldn't get more then maybe 6-10 people. Anyone else have a bigger place? Or even suggestions on a small LAN center we could rent out as a venue and BYOC?

excited to have geex host a sc2b tourney, i'll definitely sign up and play that.
but i agree with cazter that thats just a 1 time deal and its not for a long time. we should organize something on our own, at least just for practice
btw: i added like everyone that posted last night to my bnet flist
even played a couple games vs jasen
