I just won a game. Great. All is good in the hood. However... I played with 3 RL friends, in a normal game. Two of them are a decent margin of MMR below me and one other dude, so they actually decide to play support (THE DREAM?). We also had an internet acquaintance with us - a "core or feed" player. We proceed to random Razor for mid, and our acquaintance decided to play carry. We build a WD/Shadow Priest/Void trilane with me as a solo Necro top. Their lanes were Silencer/BM safe, Ember mid, Timber bot and Mirana roam. We proceed to win top, we win mid and we win bot. I get into the ultralate Necro play and try to farm away... but when we 5man - Void refuses to initiate before Silencer ult is down. We proceed to lose more and more until he lands a Chrono on Mirana, Ember and Silencer and bring all of them down. In 41 minutes, he had 179 CS with a score of 9/8/11. He also claims to main at 5.5k MMR. | ||

Timewalk is slow and obvious enough that if silencer's paying any attention at all, void will jump into them and then end up standing there getting raped. Of course, he could just buy BKB. | ||

So.. I'm supposed to know that the jungle is warded, watch the courier for you as you bring in the sentries, notice that the courier you are using is running past a warded camp and move the courier for you??? The sad thing is, I actually DID react faster than him and started moving the courier back as soon as I saw the orb come out from puck. But bane resisted and tried to get the courier to deliver again and so dead chicken... Bane the proceeds to call team bad because: trilane against puck and puck has bottle and boots already. I wonder why. He then goes midas and afk farms a necro 3, which he can't really split push with or pick people off with. We hold this game for 60 minutes for some ungodly reason but end up losing to splitpush in the end/ | ||

Edit: He sold his almost buckler and headdress and started building aghs when he said he was going to build mek, out viper got blademail instead of mek, and not he's 3-14 and flaming the team. Our ursa is also complaining. Did I also mention silencer said he was going to support and didn't buy a single ward. T_T They eventually just give up and buy 15-20 couriers, feed them, and then afk for the rest of the match, while me, Undying, and Viper nearly solo kill their entire team... I'm trying to improve, and I feel like I have, but when I have to play with people like that it makes me question my own ability to carry the game. >.< | ||

Of course, two games before this I had a team giving me shit almost all fucking game while at one point I was fucking 23-1 (I remember this point because guy on other team was like "wtf" about it). These guys were fucking terribad and we still lost to them because four-stack don't listen to mister five. I hate this shit so fucking much it is unreal. | ||

He's talking out of his ass. The only hard data Valve ever gave was from when ranked was released, and 4.6k was top <1%. The distribution will have changed since then, but nobody really knows by how much. You can infer some info from the N/H/VH. Those were about 80%/16.5%/3.5% the last time somebody checked, and those cutoffs in MMR are H 3200 and VH 3700. Therefore, 3200 is 80th percentile and 3700 is 96th percentile. 4.6k is 98th at least. That said, 1.8k is definitely on the low end. Probably 15th-20th. | ||

I mean, your guess is different to Valve's data by at least 1000 MMR, on basically no evidence. Over 'ere that does kind of constitute talking out your ass. If you genuinely didn't know the info and just made a wild guess, then I'm sorry. There's just a lot of players who spout nonsense to make it seem like <4.5k (or whatever they happen to be) is terrible. In reality, anything over like 3k is well above average. | ||

I would bet good money no more than 20% of players is 4.6k (what I stated) or above because I actually believe it's < 5% and I've seen enough anecdata to feel comfortable with that. But the 95th percentile number I have much less confidence in asserting, so vOv I mean I get the concept behind the angst. When I came back to raiding in wow I went from tanking to DPS and my obsession with output was consuming. I'd feel like a bad if I didn't get top DPS in a 25-man pickup raid because "plebs" etc. But that shit's not realistic. The worst fucking thing is that people care about stuff like this because they want to have credibility just discussing this thing they theoretically enjoy doing. That's fucking cancer and it's especially cancer if you have a skewed notion of what is "good." | ||
