Hello TL,

I've been using Chrome for a couple of years now and I enjoy it very much.
Lately (Since a couple of weeks) my browser has been loading pages really slowly. I mean loading times like 15+ sec. After the page has loaded (for example when after loading TL) I can visit all pages linking from TL quickly, such as open forumthreads or visiting 'Posts' etcetera. Same thing for google - loading it is so slow, and after this I can google all I want and it's really fast again. (Edit: Incognito is also slow.)

Weird thing is - at my parent's house or at my university this doesn't happen. My roommate, who uses the same internet and also uses chrome does not have this problem. I have already tried reinstalling chrome (which is annoying, because I have to retype my passwords to login at every site and download extensions again) and it worked - for a day or so. After that it was slow again, but again only at my own place.

I have already tried disabling 'protect vs phishing/malware' and the 'predict search' in the option tab of chrome, but that didn't work either. The only extensions I have installed are AdBlock and Windows media player extension.

Does anyone know what to do? This is really annoying!

Thanks!

What about clearing cache/cookies/history? It might help. And check for malware.

What build are you on? Assuming you're on the release channel, have you tried the beta or developer channel builds?

I have been having this issue sporadically as well both on OSX and Windows. Chrome will be working fine one minute and then suddenly it will take a long time to load a page for a few minutes before going back to normal. If I open a different browser while this is happening that browser will work just fine. It is really irritating. It has forced me to switch to Safari on OSX and I am in the process of switching to Opera on Windows.

Weird, so I just had a page at work (running off my local box) load really slowly, and chalked it up to me being a fucktard. But the behavior is exactly what you describe. Only now I can't reproduce my issue, what steps are you taking to make this happen? Does it happen on every initial page load, or just every once in awhile?

I can't make it happen at all at home... and I am running an older version at home.

Are you using a lot of CPU in a single tab? (Can check chrome tab usage via task manager: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95672

You can't get rid of dns prefetching anymore, right? I don't remember. There used to be a very similar problem with bad dns caching on chrome. I think that was fixed years ago.

You're not using a web proxy, are you? (settings > advanced > change proxy settings > LAN settings > "automatically detect...") Probably not, kinda just guessing at this point.

For me, it is just once in a while. It isn't any specific page, it just happens. It's happened on TL, Amazon, Facebook, and tons of other sites.

Could this be the DNS server being slow to react? Normally, stuff like that will be set up automatically. Windows will use a DNS server from your Internet provider. There's a bunch of alternative DNS servers you could use.

You could use Google's DNS servers:
IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844

Setting that up goes like this for me:

That's a screenshot from Windows 8, but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.

Don't really know much of this developer channel build, I have tried one of those things (Found one tip on the internet, something like Chrome://flags and then do something there) to accelerate the browser but the same problem kept occuring. If you have any recommendations I'd love to hear!

The chrome task manager didn't really show odd things, I guess. This is what it showed - http://imgur.com/a02Tj3O
Also I'm not using a web proxy, I opened the location you stated and it only had 'automatically detect....' tagged, nothing else.

So basically it happens every time I open up a new page in a new tab, or a new page in the tab I'm currently in. So for example if I opened google.com on this tab right now it would be slow, but if I clicked on 'General' on the left side it would be as quick as it should be. (But opening General in a new tab would be slow.)

Well, my roommate is using the exact same thing and it worked well for us both all the time - but not for me since a few weeks. We haven't changed anything (didn't switch provider either) and the settings should be the same. The location you showed in the picture showed me this - http://imgur.com/v1JwQOS (Details and Power management had nothing interesting in them)

I've also tried turning off all my extensions and restart chrome but that didn't help either.

Thanks for the help so far, I'd really appreciate more help though since I haven't been able to solve it yet!

I had the exact same problem. I tried all the simple remedies and it was to no avail. Tried disabling Java and a host of other things. The only thing that worked (and it's not specific), is that I re-installed Secunia PSI and completely updated everything on my system. After installing everything and re-booting several times, it finally started functioning normal again; and it's still working fine to this day.

I wish I had taken more stock of trying each thing specifically to see what was causing it, because it was extremely annoying having to wait every time I opened a new tab.

You have to right-click and choose Properties on the network connection, not double-click. That's why you saw a different window in your screenshot.

I have the same problem, i can go to a website (takes 15-20 seconds to load) and then when i normal click links they load as they always do. When i right click and press open in a new tab, it takes 15-20 seconds to load. Going to another website also makes it take 15-20 seconds to load. There has to be a problem with opening a new tab or connecting to a new website (well, idk how to fix it but its just a guess) :$.

SrWare Iron is a variation of Chrome, but without all the privacy stuff sent to google - http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_download.php

I haven't used actual Chrome in over a year, it's the best.

Does Iron do the same thing? The other idea would be the DNS or Windows Defender listed above.

I think I figured out why Chrome is slow for some people:

Chrome became very slow for me when I installed a WiFi Range Extender. Extenders can increase the Up/Down speed of the connection dramatically, but will also slow the RTT (round trip time) down quite abit. Both IE and FireFox performance was much improved in every way, but Chrome's behaviour became slow and started to hang for many seconds almost randomly.

I suppose this is not suprising since Chrome reports all your surfing patterns back to Goog servers whenever you do anything, so it makes sense that it would slow down alot more than other browsers that are just downloading what you want (!)

So.. if your RTT has recently become slower (you can check it with ping.exe etc), which can happen for many different ISP reasons out of your control,,, then you are probably seeing Chrome slowdown alot.

Final note,, I'm sure Google will eventually find some way of hiding this behaviour, by buffering your browsing information before sending it back to google for example, I really don't think they want people to figure out how much personal info they're scooping up!

You should be able to disable this behavior temporarily. If your guess is correct, then the slowness would disappear and you can file one hell of an awesome bug report.

I use Iron, and have seen similarly slow behavior.
I use Google DNS as well, but I never figured out what the issue was. Chrome has never been more than a back-up browser to FF - so that's not changing haha.

Did you try using not Google DNS? At least in this thread we never eliminated DNS as the possible culprit, because OP disappeared.

I had the same problem, I had to wait for 15 second when I opened a new window or a new tab.
It was caused by a program installed on my computer : browserprotect (nice name). I removed it with AdwCleaner (very light and very effective soft). Chrome worked perfectly after this. Hope it helped you !

Since OP disappeared, can I take his place? I'm positive I have the exact same problem, as I can load pages at normal speeds as long as I stay inside the website I'm currently on. The address bar even still predicts searches, which means it CAN load quickly in new tabs. But if I try to open a new tab or go to an alternate URL in the tab I'm in, it takes ~30 seconds to load.

My computer is less than a month old, and this started happening a few days ago. All other browsers work fine, but I much prefer Chrome and would rather use that. Any ideas?

I wonder if it was an under the hood thing, because my chrome has been acting up (not in the exact same way) for the past couple days. Just wait it out?

Well, after restarting my computer for about the tenth time, chrome seems to be working properly now...there must be a simpler fix though. Shouldn't have to keep restarting until it decides to function normally.

My Google Chrome has also been taking a lifetime to load web pages recently as well.

Hello
I have been using Win 8 on my desktop for a few months without any problems, but over the last month or so my internet browsers have become very very slow. Sometimes Google Chrome will not load unless I click several times on the home button. When I enter a search in the browser it quickly 'finds' the internet locations, but again I generally have to click rapidly on the url to get the page to load (this does not always work). This problem is with chrome, IE & firefox. I have tried uninstalling both chrome & IE but this did not help after re-installing. I have tried some other internet suggestions but with no success. Does anyone have any suggestions please.
