Need some help from Teamliquid computer geeks.

Problem:
CPU heats to 60c when doing just about nothing.
Cannot stream (lags computer too much).
Opening two or more games will cause lag.

What I'm Aiming For:
To make use of my 8gb of ram
Be able to stream and multitask
Not be able to cook eggs on my motherboard

Current Computer Parts:
Motherboard: BIOSTAR TA790GXE AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE 100258-1GHDMI Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor HDZ550WFGIBOX

What items do I need to purchase? I have 1TB HD and 8GB of ram but can't really use it.
Should I purchase new parts or get a new computer? The new computer cannot exceed $650.

I prefer to get new parts for my current rig though. I have no computer experience.
I'm running x64 bit and I do have three internal fans. My room is pretty cold as well.

I want to fuck Soulkey with a Zelderan.

The question I ask is why you need 8GB of RAM and what you think you're possibly going to need it for.

Think this should be in tech discussion instead of blogs. Check out the building a computer resource thread I think it's sticked

Problem 1: Check to see if the connection between your heatsink and your cpu is good. Something off their like improper application of thermal paste or some other thing can cause CPU temps to rise quickly. If you're using a stock heatsink, you might also want to consider getting an aftermarket heatsink.

Problem 2: Dual core processor, you're probably giving it too much to do, considering streaming takes a lot of CPU power, and a game like SC2 heavily utilizes CPU. Not much to do here besides lower your stream settings or settings in SC2 which utilize CPU (mainly physics), or upgrade.

Problem 3: Same deal, too much workload for that old dual core to handle, but this really depends on the games you're opening.

8GB of RAM: Take a look at RAMDisk, which basically utilizes your extra ram as super fast storage. This can speed up your computer a lot if you put your temp folders on there, or other things.

Stream and multitask: Upgrade parts.

Cook eggs on motherboard: You probably can, just take the heatsink off your NB and crack one over it.

As far as purchasing new stuff, sounds like all you really need is a new cpu. Just buy a phenom II x4 so you can keep your current motherboard and everything else.

One more question... the game in question that is causing my computer lots of problems is "Mabinogi".
According to something I read, the game only runs on one "core" of a CPU. What does that mean and why is that bad?

If you're trying to stream on that CPU, you're going to be able to cook eggs on it. You need to upgrade, preferably to Intel CPU.

You can't force more RAM usage, unless you actually do stuff that uses more RAM.

Your computer is a dual core, so there are two physical "factories" that process data. Maginogi can only use 1, so it will never utilize the full potential of your CPU

To stream, you need a quad-core.

I'll assume you don't want to overclock, correct me if I'm wrong, but an h61 mobo with an i5-2500 should get you results you're looking for

You'll probably want a better video card, as the 4850 is very weak. This is very reliant on your budget

Provide us with a budget and we can recommend better parts

Are these the items you're talking about?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138312
http://ark.intel.com/products/52209/Intel-Core-i5-2500-Processor-(6M-Cache-3_30-GHz)

Will my other parts be compatible with these two parts? And what video card do you recommend?

Can I run 64-bit on this setup?

Yes, those are the parts he meant (at least the CPU, as mainboard you can basically anything with H61).
Your other stuff is compatible and 64bit isn't a problem.

What kind of graphics card is best for you depends on the resolution you want to play in and on the games you want to play.
You should probably just get your CPU and mainboard and get a new graphics card if you need one. Starcraft and Maginogi run fine on a 4850.

Getting a Phenom II X4 is not going solve your problems entirely. It's not that great of an upgrade over a Phenom II X2. Anything not using more than 2 cores that has issues on your Phenom II X2 is still going to have the same problems. Adding cores when your requirements already don't use both cores doesn't make much sense. The Phenom II X4 will, however, allow you to stream, albeit not very well.

To better help, you should post:
1. The games you play most often
2. What games you stream most often
3. What performance expectation you want for both 1 and 2

It's hard to say what video card and cpu without knowing that information.

1. Starcraft 2, League of Legends, Mabinogi, and eventually SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, etc.
2. League of Legends, SC2.
3. Pretty damn good.

So I'm sort of confused, all this input is nice but I'm not sure which to follow lol.

Best bet would be to build a new computer

Based on your mobo, your ram seems to be ddr2, which is good to sell for insanely high prices on ebay since nobody has it anymore, but other than that is obsolete

Your hard drive is usable, which is good since hard drives are highly inflated these days

I'm assuming you have a cd drive, but if you don't you can get any random one for $20

For your case if you'd like to keep it, it lets you save more money for other parts but often times a better case will result in better temps

cpu: i5 2500k or if you don't want to overclock, i5 2300/2400/2500 or whatever is the best deal
mobo: depending on your case, you may need to buy a micro atx mobo, but either way, if overclocking, get a p67 or z68 (ask someone else for these recommendations) but if not get h61/h67
gpu: You can upgrade your GPU to something like a gtx 560ti or maybe hd 6950
ram: 8gb of ram is very cheap but 4gb is even cheaper. Get what you want or what you can afford
CPU Fan: everyone likes the hyper 212+ but if you're not going to OC, then you can use the intel stock heatsink

these prices should be roughly $650, I can't give you exact links since I don't know exactly what you plan to do (if you plan to oc or not, if you're going to get a new case, what type of case you have)

Not really.

Is there a point in selecting that motherboard over a less expensive model such as the Asrock H61M-VS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241 or Biostar H61MGC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138332 ?

Is there a reason why you are selecting the Windforce model at $235 when EVGA -KR is available $230 ($210 after mail in rebate): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130623 and a similar Gigabyte model is available at $220 without a rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401 ?

A core i5 2500 for $210 is not a good purchase. The core i5 2320 is available for $175: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63959&promoid=1244 it is slower but is also noticeably less expensive. The difference between the two is 400MHz and $35. The core i5 2500k is also available for $200: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=57962&promoid=1244 Identical to the 2500 except it has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking. If you don't want the core i5 2320 and want the 2500 instead than get this - even if you are not overclocking, this is less expensive right now and will have a better resale value.

you're not gonna want a phenom Ii x4 for streaming sc2. best bet is i5 2320 like skyr said or i5 2500k (and p67 mobo and aftermarket heatsink for overclocking) if you can afford it.

the resolution you're playing at is important too. assuming you're playing at 1080p a gtx 560 ti is fine for all those games.

also I can't check if you have ddr2 right now but if you have rebuy ram just get 4gb. you indicate you don't use you 8gb now so no reason to get more than 4gb.

I think I'm gonna go with skyR's suggestions but what do you guys think about using something with my current motherboard?

Like maybe
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition Deneb 3.5GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDZ970FBGMBOX

Edit: Shit is this what the guy above me says not to get?

and a graphics card that is compatible? I am okay with getting another motherboard I guess but I dunno if I trust myself to set it up.

Double edit: I like these suggestions thus far, despite my ignorance lol. But basically my setup right now isn't that bad, just the overheating and streaming issue is what is bothering me. Is it necessary to shell out $600+ to be able to do that efficiently even with my current set up?

Streaming + SC2 + "Pretty damn good" expectations = not gonna happen with a Phenom. It's not even gonna be a significant upgrade over a Phenom II X2 for non multi-threaded tasks like playing video games. In streaming, which will max multi-threaded tasks, it's significantly behind a 2500k.

Just to recap one more time so I don't fuck this up...

I'm going to get the i5 2320, the H61MGC LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro, and the GTX 560 Ti.

That is correct/good?

Umm I've had all the parts for a day now and this motherboard doesn't have anywhere for my graphics card or network card to go. So... why?

Edit: I guess I need PCI slots. Can someone help me fix this? I sort of trusted teamliquid with computer + streaming help and now I have an expensive graphics card + motherboard + cpu that I can't even use lol. I stated in the OP I'm not good with computers, and now I have equipment that doesn't even work together. My first experience with buying a recommended computer from Teamliquid worked flawlessly, but dunno why it didn't this time. What am I doing wrong?

And if I had to buy something additional to make my graphics card work, why wasn't I told?

Plug your internet in? There is an ethernet adapter right on the board. No need for a card. Just plug it into the onboard.

Connect your computer to the router using the onboard LAN port that is on the back of the motherboard. You only have to plug it in and install driver support.

All of your computer parts go together. No pouting ok?

You will need a new wireless adapter solution since your new board doesn't have a PCI port on it. Unless I am being totally blind here.

Indeed most boards do not come with a PCI slot on them anymore as PCI is being phased out completely. For future reference this device should have been listed in the OP as it would have then signaled to us your needs. But no big deal.

Wireless adapters should be pretty cheap now but I will refrain from recommending one myself since I have never ever dealt with wireless.

EDIT: It might also seem like you could just get a PCI to PCI-e adapter but those are most of the time more expensive than buying completely new.

I said in the OP I am pretty bad when it comes to computers.

When it comes to hardware I derp it pretty hard and I don't know what I'm doing.
I'm not exactly sure what is standard and what isn't. Would a USB wireless adapter work?
