Negative: I don't care about it, probably won't even check it out Positive: perhaps blizz will put money into tournaments for BW and sc2 as promo for the new game. I'd be thrilled with a KSL Season 5.

Even the smallest indiest company can put together a AAA quality video trailer today. You'll probably be able to sub out every starcraft noun with something generic and it would function just the same. The suits at blizzard are just incredibly out of touch with their teams, and even more so with their player base. I don't think Diablo immortal will ever be topped in terms of bad ideas but they keep testing the waters. Letting Tigole go is about the next dumbest thing. Viewing people like Ben Brode or even Mike as expendable or replaceable is going to catch up to them eventually. Nothing is too big to fail. Seems like the only person at the company that seems to truly put the players first is Holly, but she can only so much. The wow teams are being squeezed so completely dry that the most important cogs are getting fed up.

The date is a bit far away, but 4 years is not that odd, ultimately. Just shocking to see the first 2030s release date. 2020s are nearing their end. The lack of any gameplay footage or discussion is more worrying and annoying. The WC3: Forsaken Kingdom is probably a more significant development regarding any future attention towards SC2 and BW. Overall, I'm a bit positive on things, but my expectations were low to start with. Only the ARG buildup got my hopes up during the last week.

I think the announcement can shift some attention to Starcraft so that's at least some positive for me.

You mean a game that the devs specifically declared to be more focused on the singleplayer experience? I think it was overall a cool announcement, but it is way too early to say anything profound about it, since we don't really know anything. What does "Open World Story Shooter" even mean? As for the reason why they put out the cinematic so early: It was the first Blizzcon in ages and in the meantime Blizzard caught a lot of bad attention and I would say an overall negative momentum. Seemed like nothing they did worked and even if it did, they still got bad press for it. So with this Blizzcon, they clearly tried to have something for everybody. All of their universes should get atleast one announcement, so all fans have something. And since Starcraft was specifically not mentioned in the animation series annoucenemt (they mentioned all universes except for Starcraft, right?), they needed to have something else. And since it seems the Lead Designer only took over 2-3 years ago, they probably really didn't have much else to show yet. "Then they shouldn't have said anything"...but why? Starcraft-fans are pissed either way, not like y'all would have been happy with no announcement. Even the smallest indiest company can put together a AAA quality video trailer today. True-ish, but still, keep it fair. I think the posterboy for a hyper-generic cinematic is Stormgate with their hype-killing Announcement Cinematic. The Dominion-cinematic was miles above that.

But the fact it’s coming out in 2030? lol majority wouldn’t care at that point. If they had announced SC3 for 2030 it would make more sense and kept both the SC2 and BW community hyped for the next 4 years

Well they just added yet another elf race in WoW Forever, that looks like blood elves, but is blue, so kinda like night elves, but not really, and it's the same race for both horde and alliance. None of it makes any sense. If you think that some designer came up with this idea and other designers approved it, I believe the potential for stupid ideas is actually extremely high at Blizzard and Diablo Immortal is still be to be topped.

I'm glad they aren't trying to stick their fingers into BW, though.

Release date is a bit far off but GTA 6 did the same and that didn't hurt the hype. What are four years even for people that are playing sc2 for 16 years or broodwar for 28 years?

At least give the RTS history of starcraft a bit more acknowledgement. I am half excited for this though. Apparently its gonna be some sort of helldiver 2 style game, but they might be couple years behind the trend and players have moved on already.

For the thing itself? I dunno it's got a great cinematic. I don't think anyone can credibly say anything other than that, we literally have no idea how it'll look four years from now.

Most Starcraft fans are in their thirties or even forties now. At that point you just go in with your life until it's near release and then check it out if it still looks interesting.

I think the timeline of 2030 is pretty disappointing, means there probably isn't much else coming in terms of StarCraft for a good while...

We're not getting new things there, unless as a way to drive hype for this and cross pollinate the hype like they did with D2 and RoTW and now with WoW Forever and WC3 Forsaken Kingdom. So we might get a DLC Campaign or a new commander in like 3 or 4 years when they're trying to hype the release of it. For the thing itself? I dunno it's got a great cinematic. I don't think anyone can credibly say anything other than that, we literally have no idea how it'll look four years from now. Storywise, the new game is around 70 years after Legacy of the Void, so a DLC campaign for SC2 to fill in the gap and set up the backstory for the new game is pretty reasonable

Everything about that statement is a disappointment. 4 years is too long and a story-based shooter is the worst and most lazy thing they could've done for a Starcraft shooter. There was so much potential on making it something unique or at least a helldivers clone - either one would've been much better than a story based shooter. I wish they would've built something like a planetside-like gamemode with 1 of each race (or a 1x1) where there is 1 player who is like the RTS player, telling his units where to go and what to do, and all the other players are in FPS mode, getting orders from the RTS player - where to go, play offensively or defensively, take out a certain building/expansion or jump in a medivac and get flown to a specific drop spot.. Maybe only be revived once the RTS player "Builds" you from a barracks or factory or something. I feel like there is so much potential in an idea such as this and it would've fit both Starcraft's setting well and make it at least somewhat tied to its RTS roots. I'm sad.
