I am glad Prince was able to qualify, it's quite refreshing to see some "new" KR players get a shot at the big league. Too bad it was detrimental to both Scarlett and Nice though. The big news is that both Rogue and Trap didn't try to qualify, which kinda confirm the rumor, at least for the GSL part (WTL playoffs should still be played by Rogue afaik). Personally as a big Maru fan I am quite sad Rogue doesn't get a shot to compete with him another season for being the first player to win G5L: will it feel as good if the main competitor for the trophy has no chance to win it?

Wow, with Trap Rogue and Zest gone it really feels like there's a new age of Korean Starcraft. Makes me anxious about someday losing Maru Really excited to see how Astrea and Reynor do, they have a real chance of making the ro8+

A couple more years and we will have EU completely dominate KR if the scene is still alive by then.

Let assume GSL continue in the next two years. Up to this point, perhaps Dark will be able to gain 4 trophy before Maru does with G5L. Or herO winning 4 trophy consecutively like Maru did before.

nothing is more determined to kill korean sc2 than ROK military service hope herO and soO pave the way for returnees

Good on Reynor! I don't see a certain player here. They must be too scared to play in the big leagues.

For some reason, there's just something that feels different with losing Rogue, and Trap shrinking away also doesn't feel great. I think for me there's a cumulative effect that compounds whenever we lose guys of this caliber. I mean when you think of the SC2 scene without guys like SOS, Trap, Rogue, Parting, TY, Stats, Zest, and Inno it starts to feel scarce despite the return of Byun, Hero, Gumiho, Soo, etc. The level of play overall is probably better than it ever was, but there's too many strategic geniuses and meta-defining players gone now. The longer into LOTV with these less frequent and impactful patches, true innovations rarely emerge, with most meta shifts consisting of strategic recycling of old builds that the opponent may not be prepared for (somewhat interesting, I suppose).
Hero's take on the game definitely feels fresh and exciting, but it's counterbalanced by Maru pushing the TvZ meta into this boring "Turtle Terran" stuff. Reynor off-racing is also kind of a new interesting thing, but only to the point at which you realize he's doing it because he thinks ZvZ is basically a game of rock, paper, scissors. The scene needed Serral until it needed Reynor until it needed Clem, and now it needs...MaxPax? Doesn't feel the same...
Without the expected level of innovative, new stuff in the gameplay at the very highest levels, it's really storylines that drive the excitement. And here I do think the community really needed the Maru v. Rogue final battle for the G5L for GSL to feel like it had the right kind of epic closure in Korea. I am hoping TY and Stats will come back and give us something to be excited about. But it really does feel like more than a chapter coming to a close, we're getting ready to wrap it up and put the book back on the shelf. I hope there can be a celebratory final moment with something nice planned, rather than a slow burn disintegration of the pro scene.

But herO, soO and Classic are already back, the only question mark I have is how long the players will have something to return to

I am happy to see that Prince qualified. It is always exciting to see a new player with a new personal style. Perfect balance again btw.

The World has been fighting vs Koreans even after the Koreans abandoned sc2 very long time ago. All the new young talents from Korea play LoL or other games, no youngsters ever play sc2 in Korea, and meanwhile the oldest Koreans are still playing at the top level in sc2 scene. And yet young foreigners having hard time to dominate the old Koreans.
At this rate, I see some old Koreans like Maru, Dark, herO are still gonna be at the top in the scene even after years from now.

It's not absurd at all, he (and others) cost the Korean scene thousand and thousands of dollar and destroyed the career of many of their ex-teammates.
Plus he hasn't been playing SC2 for almost 6 years now, I think we can forget about him comming back even if he was unbanned.

Sometimes I forget about Life. I can't believe he was so talented he would throw game 1 and win the next two. Still, he deserves every bit of his lifetime ban.
