The math has been done and the player list has been up on Liquipedia for a while, but ESL has finally made it official: these are your 36 competitors at IEM Katowice 2021.

IEM Katowice will be held from February 20th to February 28th, with $250,000 in total prize money on the line. Due to ongoing complications from the global pandemic, the competition will be held entirely online (more info here).

Per Region, everyone who deserves to be there has made it in. Is there anyone who had a late stride and deserves to be here base on recent results?

Maybe Zoun in Korea? Other than that the cut is very fair.

This is an immensely sick lineup of players.
Looking forward to this!

Serral actually made the No.1 seed from EU! Now I see why it was called Last Chance.

Zoun didn't make it because his stride was too late let's be honest. He missed ASUS ROG, Super Tournament 2, TSL6 and DH Last Chance. Every opportunity to get points to make the cut.

lmao! Yeah, the "last chance" could probably be better designed to make it more exiting, but it was a cool tourney to watch as it turned out.

Really love what ESL/Dreamhack and GSL (and all the other tournament organizers) have done for SC2 this circuit. Great storyline all around. All players deserve to be there. Hope for a great world finals

Sad that Zoun isn't there, the guy got really really hot lately, but that's just the format. Gonna be an awesome tournament regardless

I get that people miss Zoun, but Byun and sOs got in, so the next time he has to surge his form earlier
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.

100% agree. but as people mentioned, Zoun just came up too late to get points, and as much as I like Lambo, Elazer and Uthermal deserve the spots as well

Super happy to see Scarlett in the world finals, after years of just barely not making the cutoff. And it comes at the end of such an amazing year, with her second premier tournament win, an all-kill in the Chinese team league, and the iconic GSL match vs Rogue that people will likely be talking about decades from now. Here's to wishing Scarlett luck in making a deep run. I can feel it happening.

is it maru confirmed to attend?

Also, I really like the decision to extend the schedule of the event, it makes it more enjoyable to have few matches per day but in a bigger timespan and since they are not renting a venue its possible to do it so yay!.

I hope this is not played on the current patch. Something needs to be done about shield batteries before holding a major tournament - the current state of the game is really bad, and shield batteries are the cause.

Well, in that case I would love you to know that Blizzard is no longer caring

Since the last balance patch, in Premier tournaments, we have had 5 Zerg victories, 4 Protoss victories, and 3 Terran victories. Or if we stop pretending NA stuff is premier, 4, 3, and 3. This is honestly better than balance has been for a long time, and whatever balance issues there may be can't really be pinned on the Shield Battery, which wasn't even changed with that patch.

Anyone know when the brackets are being announced? I wonder if they think about how much preparation time they want to allow. Do you want the players to be extra prepared for their first matches, or do you want them to just do more general practice and have less time to prepare for their brackets

This can change the outcome of quite a lot of the first matches.

Was wondering what Scarlett actually won this year. Them´n remembered, that some people count the NA part of EPT premier

Tbh I didn t feel like she was considerably stronger or weaker than in the two years prior. So I d say it would be quite the succes for her, if she managed to make it to the Ro24

I have just read the recent news about multiple pro players in CoD:Warzone quit over rampant cheating in that game. With IEM Katowice now being run online, I'm now wondering if we have good anti-cheat systems in place for that tournament? How are the tournament organizers making sure that there's no cheating? It has by far the largest prize pool in SC2 currently. I'm not saying that any of the top players are or will do so, but best to put practices in place to make sure that these things don't happen.

What do you all think?

Sad that Mana didn't make it. His PvZ has looked as good as anyone's recently and feel like he was not that far behind the EU top 5.
