With the WCS standings taking shape, all 32 players in the third season of GSL prepared to make a final run at the Code S title and BlizzCon qualification. First up was defending champion (T)GuMiho and the player he selected to play in the round of 32, (Z)Elazer, as the first of many upcoming foreigner versus Korean matchups following a highly successful GSL qualifying campaign for the foreign brigade.

GuMiho took the first game by forcing Elazer into a failed low econ roach/ravager attack, but Elazer fought back in game two by punishing an experimental push from GuMiho. Elazer losing his swarm hosts meant he was never able to establish a sustainable economy in the deciding game, making GuMiho’s mech impossible to overcome.

(T)KeeN's passivity allowed (Z)Rogue to reach ultralisks unhindered. KeeN's drop gave him room to execute a liberator heavy push, but Rogue broke him to take the game. Game two was quick affair as Rogue’s nydus abruptly ended the match in his favor.

Rogue reached ultralisks in game one, but did so at a supply disadvantage and eventually crumbled to bio. He bounced back on Newkirk Precinct against GuMIho's oddball skyterran build. An early ravager attack from Rogue on Odyssey forced GuMiho into mass cyclones, and while GuMiho held on admirably, he ultimately fell, sending Rogue into the Round of 16.

Elazer dominated KeeN in a quick two game series with the help of a hydra heavy style. He took early leads in both games thanks to zerglings and banelings which allowed him to tech into ultralisks and vipers, a combination which was set up the rematch with GuMiho.

Elazer responded to GuMiho’s standard cyclone heavy play with roaches in game one, but wasn't able to handle the switch into tanks. Needing a win, Elazer went for a one base zergling attack in game two, but found himself locked out of GuMiho's main. He went for a last ditch nydus, but GuMiho shut it down to join Rogue in the Round of 16.

Elazer played well all things considered. First time GSL, it is a good showing for him. I hope he will continue to do well at WCS circuit events.

Elazer you didn't do bad, maybe too nervous in first game against Gumiho but well who wouldn't be, foreigner + first GSL + being against Reigning GSL Champ + Gumigod.

I hope Elazer will stay in Korea and make ro8 in next GSL

Not sure about NoRegret's skills as a coach...I'm thinking Elazer might have some regrets.

This works better if you use the real name first

Happy for rogue, he really seems to do pretty well these days

Elazer facing Gumiho is hard to win for Elazer, despite that i think he did a pretty good job. If Gumiho won vs Rogue the losers final bracket would be ZvZ and ik think Elazer could win that.

Elazer had several chances to advance. Much closer to being an upset than I expected from this group for sure! Game 3 was the big disappointment though, doing who knows what with all those swarm hosts and losing them. As said before, if rogue hadn't advanced in first, I think there is a very good chance he would have made it out that way as well. Overall good showing from a foreigner.

Elazer obviously had some rough edges and cost him a game or two, but I think he had a great showing. Hopefully he can go further next time if he decides to stay in Korea.

I doubt he had any impact for or against Elazer's performance.

It was a joke, based on Elazer cheesing the final map and then NoRegret going onstage with him after he lost (like coaches do).

Elazer did spectacularly, he almost edged out Gumiho for the first set too. If he had he could've possibly took out Rogue to advance in first.

Sad about Keen's performance, he looked completely outclassed. Sounds like he is struggling a bit mentally and didn't expect to make it out of the group at all himself. If he doesn't believe it, who will though? Hope to see more of him next GSL.

Surprised there was nothing mentioned about Gumiho vs Rogue Game 2. It was WILDDDDD.

It was cool to see Gumihos cyclone heavy mech style, it seems very resilient to allins and much more able to capitalize on mistakes from zerg. I do wish we would have seen elzaer execute the swarmhost strat more effectively, In game 1 he was to behind to make it work after his failed roach attack and in game 2 he lost half of them due to not pulling them back after he sent out a wave of locusts. I realy want to see how gumiho deals with hydra swarm host when his opponent is not behind/makes large mistakes.

Im also wondering how Terran will adapt to the hydra bane meta. It seems like its really gaining traction now both in the foreigner and Korean scenes, theirs always been an undercurrent of it on NA, but It seems to have finally spread to Korea. It seems really good on the current map pool since the weakness of hydra bane is often mobility and the currents maps are not very drop friendly with bases close to one another and not much airspace. I wonder how it will hold up when Terran are better prepared to deal with it and figure out what you need to do to hit a pre ultra tank bio timing and kill the zerg. the lategame with vipers to yank libs into hydras seems really roug. but mabey terran can use more tank heavy armies to hold out, the army si realy expensive

Rogue punished Gumiho for fast BC's in game 2.
Happy that he advanced in the 1st place.
I don't think that any foreigner will make it to the Ro16 -_-

Dark was doing this build in Decemeber. It didn't just spread to Korea.

Maybe if Elazer had opted for a big machine economy in Game 2 vs Gumiho.
