After his hard fought win over Maru in the WESG finals, TY sat down with journalists to answer a few questions about his championship winning run.

This was your first championship – just how big is that victory?

I’ve played as a progamer for over ten years, but this was one of the most important tournaments in my life.

What was the difference between this tournament and others before?

The prize pool was historically the highest ever and all the players‘ level in the competition was really high.

What did you think about your opponent, Maru, before the match?

Maru is one of the best players in Korea. He’s very talented and very good, so I never thought the series would be easy. But I managed to win in the end. It still feels like a dream. I will continue to work hard and put all my efforts into SCII.

What was it about this tournament that made it 'the one', where you went all the way when you couldn't before?

I practice a lot, not only for this tournament but for all of them. So my skill is the most important, but it’s also that I’ve gotten used to big crowds and pressure. That really helped me here.

How did you experience the last game?

There was one moment when my widow mine killed his cyclone. It’s a small difference but between pro-gamers, that small interaction makes a huge difference. I knew I was going to win when that happened. I just had to close out the game.

What’s your current situation like? Are there any offers from teams for you, or are you looking for one?

I thought about the events in Korea a lot, with all our teams disbanding and Proleague ending. I wasn't sure at first, but now I want to say that I am available and I am looking for a team. I'm always practicing hard and now I'm a tournament winner. So if there’s anyone interested in me, please hire me!

What are your expectations for the future of SCII as an esport?

It’s very sad that a lot of good players lost their teams or retired. But a pro-gamer can only do one thing in this situation – keep practicing and working hard. Especially in Korea the situation is quite sad right now, but maybe we can ‚revive‘ our scene if we continue to work.

Nice interview, good questions journalists!
It is sad the scene for SC2 in Korea right now, but the tournaments are still huge for us foreigners watching which might not be as many as before but there still is more than enough market for this game! Hoping people can revive the scene in Korea too and who knows what the future holds.

Time to win a GSL! That trophy looks awesome as well, i think the importance of a tournament should be about how the trophy looks tbh. I wonder which one would win that contest hm

I wonder who's gonna be able to pick him up... he'll probably play KR/GSL instead of WCS anyway right?

"all the players‘ level in the competition was really high" I know pros say this all the time to be respectful to their competition, but can he really say this about WESG with a straight face? After how hard he and Maru stomped almost every other competitor and all the 3-0's we saw?

I'm not sure what the most diplomatic thing to say would've been.

Of course that was a too much "diplomatic" expression...

btw, his comments about today's korean scene sound very bad

Huh. Never really thought about that. Do players get to keep the trophy? I thought it would be something they take pictures with and then give back to the organisation. If not, getting a new trophy every time might be quite a costly affair for for tournament organisers, no?
