After some internal discussion, we have decided to let this thread stay up. Although we cannot allow people to just post up their resumes on our site, we have found a nice alternative that will allow the thread to remain open. We have changed it into an AMA. Something along the lines of: "Hello, I'm H.O.T-Forever, this is what I've done, please ask me stuff." So everyone, please feel free to ask H.O.T-Forever anything you would like (Please note: He has every right to not answer a question he doesn't feel comfortable answering) |
Hello, my name is Do-kyung Kang (a.k.a. H.O.T-Forever) and I was the head coach of KT Rolster Starcraft 2 team till November. As ProLeague has been discontinued, I am currently looking for an opportunity as a coach for an e-sports team. Considering my strengths and familiarity, I personally believe that League of Legends would best fit my aptitudes, but it does not matter for me which game it is, as long as it is e-sports. I have built my career in e-sports for 18 years, as a player and a coach. During my career as a coach, I have made a structured system of managing and coaching players. Using this system, I have successfully lead my team to win the most pro games in Korea.

Summary of Qualifications I have over 18 years of experience in e-sports. I don't know that I would put your physical address out there like that... Perhaps have them PM or email you if they need it instead?

Thank you for leading KT to Proleague glory. Hope you find something.

Is this the first time someone has posted their resume on TL?

Agree - best option for these guys is to switch to LoL..
Even Chinese teams are shelling out top dollar for Koreans and coaches.

As many before me, couldn't stress more but to get to the LoL side. I think someone with that much experience, as a pgm AND as a coach in one of the greatest (arguably the greatest obv, kt best kt ;p) esport team ever, will have a decent chance to get a lol coach job.
Still, you'll have to learn the game, so I hope you like it a little at least...
|
Wish you best of luck hope you land a job that is great as your e-sport passion is . KT rolster fan here thank you for leading kt rolster through broodwar proleague and coaching plus nurturing Flash to be the best he is right now.

Try to find a game that's just starting and get in on the ground floor

I'm sad to see such a legend without a job. I hope you find something that suits you soon!

I hope some sc2 company or team contact you

Wow the real H.O.T-Forever posting his resume on TL. Maybe try to contact western/chinese LoL, they're gonna jumping all over you. Except if you want to stay in Starcraft scene.
Good luck man.

Best of luck! You are awesome!

TL is clearly removing the info so they can contact him first. Sneaky buggers.

Forever's dedication is admirable, hope he can find something that works out well.
I would love to see him make a powerhouse foreign team in fact.

Damn, I hope Broodwar takes off again so Oov can come back ;_;

Crazy to see a legend like that reaching out to the foreign community. Best of luck!!!
I think any multigaming organisation should be very happy to employ you. If you can't get a coaching job in esports with that resume, nobody can, at least not based on qualification.
Assuming there are any free coaching positions out there of course.

This is best chance for TeamLiquid! If HOT Forever becomes coach for TL then all team can wreck koreans. Don't screw up over a legend and without a doubt accept him.

Your most memorable esports moments, Both as coach and player?
|
I understand if this subject makes you uncomfortable, and I would not hold it against you at all if you chose not to answer. I simply felt the need to ask, given the opportunity.
How much did KT Rolster know about Life's illegal activities? The only time he was accused of having done them was the year he was on KT, and he was traded to Afreeca very soon before his arrest, for a player who was in a far worse condition. I am not accusing anyone, least of all a long time veteran and highly respectable man such as yourself. I simply wish to understand.
|
Thank you for managing KT! I wish you will find a team ahead of the next challenge.
|
let me help him out with a few questions.
q1. if a foreign team is interested what are the difficulties you forsee and how would you overcome them?
q2. I am very impressed with your achievements as a sc2 coach but are you confident the system for sc2 is translatable to other games and how?

So, is it possible that Proleague with SC2 will ever be revived? Still don't get why it was so massively unpopular in Korea. Every week players used new stuff, those games were extremely high level, commentary and production were really solid, and clearly a lot of those builds were prepared by coaches and other similar people for the players. Learning of the discontinuation was definitely the saddest piece of news for me in 2016...
|
Do you feel like Kespa and Blizzard made all they can for SC2 ?
|
Do you believe the RTS genre as a whole can ever rise again to the top of e-sports ? or will it remain a niche ?
|
Oooh I started playing after you stopped playing, but I watched your vods and remember some great games! Thanks for that, and for coaching my favorite team!
Question: Can you tell us some of the bad habits of players you were trying to fix as the coach? (You don't have to name the players.)
|
1. Can you tell us more about the practice schedule in the teamhouse? 2. Did your coaching style change with the transition to sc2? 3. Why was Flash sooo good, did he practice more or different?
thank you H.O.T forever
|
|
Hi H.O.T-Forever,
Can you describe your coaching methods? How did you manage to coach such a successful team?
|
Dear H.O.T-Forever, Thank you for doing this AMA. I hope the best for your future career!
Question 1 What do you consider your biggest strength as a coach?
Question 2 Did you ever have to coach players that your coaching didn't work on at all? And how did you deal with that situation?
Question 3 With all the experience you have now as a coach, what would you do different in your progaming years?
Question 4 What do you think separates you from other coaches that you would be the best?
|
Hi H.O.T-Forever, thank you for all your years of hardwork supporting KT.
Do you think there was a viable route for BW and SC2 to co-exist in Korea?
Further more, do you think there was/is a way for SC2 to maintain popularity in Korea?

HOT-Forever, how do you feel about the changes that Blizzard made to Starcraft from WOL through LOTV?
This is a really odd thread. I guess if SC2 doesn't work out for TL, this site could always become the E-Sports Careerbuilder or Monster.com. Or be the place to help former SC2 players move on.

Coach H.O.T-Forever has asked me to help him out with answering some questions that require more detailed answers than he is capable of giving.

q2. I am very impressed with your achievements as a sc2 coach but are you confident the system for sc2 is translatable to other games and how? 1. The difficulties I foresee would have to do with language and culture.
2. At first, LoL also followed the system used for StarCraft. We then took that and transferred it into LoL's own system. I observed that process from the sidelines and helped KT Rolster out a lot with forming their LoL teams. Additionally, many former SC coaches are now LoL coaches and have been doing a great job.

LoL and OW are super popular. People want new things. In regards to SC2, I feel that it will still continue to function, but only as a small niche form.

I'd love for him to get involved with KT Lol team, they're super stacked next season.

No questions but cheers man ! I remember you from back then. I also somehow remember you losing against Elky (sorry :p) Maybe try Heroes of the storm teams if you can't find anything LoL related ? The game isn't quite as big but it has decent blizzard support.

Oh I thought of a good one. What was it like coaching against legends like boxer, Stork, etc? Was it just like any other match or did it almost feel like playing against them with your own team, (like RTSing with an RTS) what was that experience like?

Can you say something about TY? How is he dealing with not having a title?
Would you say that he has tilting/mental problems when playing? When he's playing his best game, he looks like #1 Terran (i.e first game in the GSL finals against Zest or his game against Solar in PL), but sometimes -- especially towards the end of series (last game against Zest in the finals or last games in Kespa Cup and BlizzCon) he looks quite weak.
Would you agree that if he fixed this problem he'd be #1? Did you recognize and acknowledge this problem and tried to work on it?

Likely, his interactions were with Blizzard Korea which is notorious for not caring about SC2 at all. Blizzard has funded every GSL ever, 5 WCS seasons, will be funding 3 GSL's next season as well as a new season of the WCS circuit. It would be preposterous to say they don't care at all.
EDIT: I realize I'm going off-topic.
How do you foresee the Korean SC2 scene going forward? Clans with no sponsors/salaries? Foreign teams?

Can you describe a bit what was it like when you guys have just formed a team in Busan with fellow strong players and future stars like Kim Dong-su (김동수), Park Yong-wook (박용욱), Park Jung-suk (박정석), Byun Gil-seob (변길섭), Park Gyung-rak (박경락)? Also how big was it when you and Kim Dong-su reached the finals of the OSL?
Idk if this is too much ^_^
