It appears MC's Starcraft career has ended and he begins a new one as the coach for Kongdoo.

1st: reaction: fuck this, this is so sad!
2nd reaction: cool for him that he gets a new job in the esports scene.

Guys he doesn't need to be a high lvl lol player to coach a team. The important part is that he can analyze games and gain knowledge that way. If he can succeed? Who knows but gl to him

at least after it's dead there will be no more toxic "i play 500 ladder games a day and then make 500 posts whining about balance and design" shit because the only people left playing will be those of us who have just always legitimately enjoyed and appreciated the game as a singular competitive achievement regardless of percentage points of pro winrates or bunker build time or whatever the fuck

Isn't Kongdoo Yellow and Shark's company? If so maybe they could allow MC to still participate in showmatches or something related to SC2 on the side.

good for MC ... he was a good money/gate/viewer draw in teh SC2 scene.

he is now too good for the commercial possibilities SC2 offers.. he needs to move onto a stage befitting his talents..

MC, sir ( almost no chance he is reading this but here goes any way )

MC is my favorite ever, yet this makes me feel nothing. I am numb. The death of pl seems to have basically made all other sc2-related losses mean nothing. Everything that happened and will happen after that is just a formality. I remember how awesome it was when MC came back to SC2, joined CJ Entus, and beat Zest in his first game and did the whale ceremony with the water. This time it's for real though. Nothing left to return to. Bye MC.

Right, MC should burn in hell for making a living from gaming, AMA RITE? BOYZ? We hate him now. We somehow have to proof that Sc2 Community is less childish and Toxic than stupid LoL community, and therefor wie banish MCs Greatness from our collective memories and replace it with anger and hatred towards the lesser game that is LoL.

I think they were in LCK first split this year then got relegated. They made it back in through end of years promotion/relegation playoffs. Pooped all over CJ.

Surprised MC knows enough to be a coach. Good on him for getting some more dirty e-sports dollars though.

I'm just surprised he goes from full-time pro in one game to full-time coach in another. Doesn't sound like an easy transition.

Well, whatever, good luck Coach MC. Do your best.

Honestly I'm not really concerned about people who don't play retiring. I'm probably the first one to take a swipe at Blizzard, and I have very frank and realistic opinions on the state and health of Starcraft 2.

But MC and Jaedong retired all but in name already.

For all these people asking about how good he is at LoL, it really doesn't matter as it's mainly due to analysis as others have pointed out before me. An awful lot of LoL coaches come from a Star Craft background. When Coach Park left SC2 last year he went to China to coach a LoL team. Kkoma, current head coach of SKT, (3x world champs, last 2 back to back,) was former Star Craft player (not sure if he was any good.) But culturally it makes sense to move from one game to another, for the Koreans at least anyway.

Remember the tried and true mantra- everything's fine.

Who is saying everything is fine? lmao you forgot to link that comic lmao meme welcome to league MC!!

The funny thing always was how dependent SC2 community is on people playing/casting/covering it and not on the game itself, I have a feeling other games just have it other way around

I'm sure he'll do well. Coaching is mostly about getting players on the same line, getting them to work together, practice right, deal with stress etc. MC has more than enough pro gaming experience to know how to tackle these issues. Plus, he's the Bosstoss so nobody will speak against him :D. He can also sing his players to sleep the night before a tournament so they are well rested.

Hey, if we can see things like that again, gogo MC :D

Not much you can do now in SC2 unless you move to China or EU.
I suspect the scene will get smaller and smaller, so it's pretty reasonable to move on to other games/things.

The only pathetic thing about this news is how petty and toxic the teamliquid community's reaction has been in this thread... Min Chul is a grown man and eventually everyone has to move on from the Esports dream and find real jobs that can sustain an adult life style. Even for someone as financially successful as MC, this is great news that means he gets to continue to work and contribute in the industry he loves. Good for him and I'll be cheering for him even if I personally don't care for the game he's working in currently.

It's been like that for long time now, I think Day9 stopping doing SC2 related stuff was the first instance for the true colors of the community to show. I don't remember similar thing happening when Husky started to move away from the game. And it's not TL, it's this community as a whole, stupidity is even more rampant on sc2 subreddit, can't say much for battle.net forums.

And by the way MC publicly said some time ago that he was giving money to his mother, so his earnings is not really the bank account balance he has. Correct me if I'm wrong though, but I'm pretty sure of that

I see your point. I do believe a big reason Day9 and Husky didn't get much grief is because there was no announcement. Just kind of slowly faded away into other things.

And it's not all that toxic. Its the internet, and unfortunately the toxic people stick out like a sore thumb. Most of the posts here are just sad to see MC go and wish him luck.

While I'm bummed that we may not see him competing in SC2 again now, I at least appreciate him sticking around this year for a few more leagues when he was already on the verge of retirement. I hope he shows up in the scene from time to time. His personality is still a treasure.

This starts to feel like how the end of bw felt.
The harder it becomes, the more you should focus on the basics.

Guys, the only skills a coach needs in LoL are a good working regime, a proper understanding of how to plan a series, and charm for the audience, and MC has loads of all of them.
Strategy? Micro? Any medium-level pro-gamer is at the game's skill ceiling.
