Well, I think it's a given the kespa boys are going to take this, but I doubt they'll invest in new B-teamers, what with all the rumours about PL supposedly not continuing next year.

For now that's just rumors. And if this VSL teamleague is a success, who's to say they don't expand it? Have it take place more often or the like. And the announcement shows that they have at least some interest in the SC2 scene and the format.

There's still clans around, sure. Some of the bigger ones are IntoThe and Dopen. Some players on ladder use a NEX clan tag but Idk how much they have to do with the original NEX clan.

Versus League They've hosted a CSGO & OW tournament so far, and their Hearthstone one is ongoing
VSL is sponsored by Twitch, so there should be a twitch stream. Their OW tournament only had Korean coverage, but maybe Olimoley can set up English coverage for SC2
It looks good, but with all the dreams that we had about new Korea teamleague or new Korea competitions, i don't want to celebrate this news too fast..

How did you get "Proleague = Dead" from "Organization with no relation to Proleague sponsors smaller Korean team league"?
Then again you did predict the most recent GSL to be the last one. So given your track record please keep making these prophesies.
Because I understand how the esports environment works?

Clearly you have a next level understanding of the eSports environment and future sight that is beyond doubt. I apologize for my insolence, oh great one.
No but seriously what does a team tournament, completely unrelated to the organizers of Proleague, open to non-Proleague teams/players, during a time where Proleague is always in off-season, say about the future of Proleague?

Everything is dead until proved otherwise
Starcraft has been steadily declining since 2012. Everyone with a brain knows this. Some of you however refuse to accept it and say things like "Oh starcraft is getting a resurgence in Korea" when it very clearly isn't. It's very clear this was the last year of proleague and likely the last GSL. The fact that instead of addressing the problem (Blizzard) you want to bury your head in the sand is fine. You are entitled to do that. But calling other people out on seeing something they enjoy coming to an end makes you the worst kind of person. Get over yourself.

I believe they have already confirmed that GSL is continuing next year, no?
'The fact that instead of addressing the problem (Blizzard) you want to bury your head in the sand is fine. '
What is the problem? What do you want to be done about it? All you do is act negative and offer no explanation or solution, it's the equivalent of repeating dead game over and over and you expect this to be taken as 'understanding the esports enivronment.'
I have no idea how we ended up here from a new tournament being announced anyway.

This looks awesome. I hope it's a reoccuring thing. If it happens every other month or something? 9k usd prizepool for a month of play. That'd actually be a pretty consistent and nice prizepool.

Broadcasts are meant to start on the 16th of October and go live every Sunday at 1PM Korean and every Monday 6PM Korean, if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully things get clarified this Sunday...
I just assumed that if qualifiers of some sort actually happened, offline qualifiers at that, there'd be some info somewhere as to who qualified. Hence why I asked if the dates changed.

The timing is still fairly sharp. It makes me very curious if they knew a niche was opening.

It's not insane. But 1000 dollars per person is still good money. It's way more than for example a 1st place in Olimoleague, and Olimoleague has great players every week.
Also I heard that if the first one is a success they might do more and increase the prize pools, so, just support it.

Being realistic is now called 'shite attitude'? Well, blimey, pardon me for living.
Basically, the sign-up period is over, the teams need to go down to the studio this Thursday for a photo shoot and something else, I think (?). They're also mentioning those unable to attend due to the WCS Finals; those players and their teams will have to appear at the studio next Wednesday. Couldn't find a list of the signed up teams, though. I'll keep looking.

It's happening!
I think that something else is like bracket draws for the qualifier or something. Not sure.
Team Yeoksam-dong: MyungSiK InnoVation soO Classic (+ Sorry (sub member) Team Train to Busan: ByuN TRUE Ryung Hurricane Team afnigga (serioiusly...): aLive KeeN Symbol Super (+ Billowy, DRGling) Team No Toss: Armani Dream Salvation Solar (+ Dark)
The 1st and 2nd matches are going to be played out on the 10th of November (next Thursday), the loser's, winner's, and the deciding match on the 13th (Sunday) and the grand final on the 20th of November (also a Sunday). Worth mentioning, the final itself will take place in the BEXCO Convention Center in Pusan during the 2016 edition of G-Star (A gaming convention)
On one hand it's quite sad no new players are participating, but I guess that was inherent to making a tournament for 4 teams of 4. Hopefully it will work as a placeholder to keep people interesetd in StarCraft while the're working out a long term solution.
Afnigga? How the hell did Afreeca Freecs accept that their player name a team like that.
Also interesting how the teams build up: Team 1 is practically all of Ex-SKT without Dream and Dark. Team 2 is Byun and friends Team 3 is afreeca with this very special name Team 4 is Ex Samsumg + rest of Ex-SKT.
I guess too much of Ex-SKT is at HSC while I wonder why Jin Air (the team which is still operating) did not try to get a spot. Even without sOs and Rogue, they could still do well with Maru, Trap, Creator, Cure and Hyun

They probably just told the team that they were going to name themselves team 아프니까 as a reference to the book "아프니까 청춘이다" and the team didn't notice the phonetic joke.
I have high hopes that this will turn out to be as Afreeca was to GOM. GOM was backwards and reliant on the old internet ideas of exclusivity and paywalls. Likewise ProLeague had a lot of "subscriber only" stuff that just didn't sit well.
Afreeca has kept GSL competitive and strong. Hopefully VSL can recognize the strengths of delivering a solid product and capitalize on the open niche we want filled.
I think it's really exciting to see Koreans build their own teams based on personal bonds and preferences more than on winning probabilities and promotion value.

the real world still has systematic racism but we'd rather worry about sportsball teams.

Train to busan A name of a recent korean movie. The venue in the tournament is in busan
Afreeca it hurts It hurts sounds apunika in Korean
No toss NO TOSS
Yeomsamdong Where skt team house was located. Iloveoov's nickname was yeok dong nim ( coach yeok) after he replied "come to yeok sam dong and visit if you have problem with my entries" to a troll bisu fan's comment complaining why bisu is not on the entry for proleague.
