Just under a year after leaving Startale, Life has rejoined his former team (two names later) and is going to Afreeca Freecs, in exchange for Leenock who is going to KT.
This is apparently a extremely last minute move, as Life just two days ago appeared in a KT promotional video for this season of Proleague. The move was requested by Afreeca who felt they needed an ace player, and KT accepted Leenock in exchange. Rough Google Translation: + Show Spoiler +
2015 Lee, Seung - Hyun was transferred to KT Rolster in Star tail and returned to his former team in just one year.
The current membership Terran ace KT Lee, Seung - Hyun will scramble in Africa (ex Star Tail) belonging to the Zerg and the yidongnyeong professional league next season changed the team through trades. Lee, Seung - Hyun This is expected to have bid farewell to his former team was back in March 2015, only about 10 months.
Match yirwojin trade is reportedly at the request of the African Lee, Seung - Hyun and yidongnyeong. The players serve as an ace in the professional league next season, I felt that Africa yiseonjong lack of supervision has requested a trade and yidongnyeong judgment, KT needed to bring the Lee, Seung - Hyun.
KT I get good grades in the professional league also is not unreasonable to think this trade under the African deulyeotdago request. Lee, Seung - Hyun This upcoming season will enter the African uniforms were fit to compete yidongnyeong is a trademark belonging to KT was sacraments.
The trade of the match both players are concentrated interest of the fans michilji affect the professional league next season.
Between using the word "trade" multiple times and then "both players" at the end it sounds like someone went to KT? Or is the Google translation just bizarrely consistent in its lies?

Life and Leeknock are traded. Afreeca requested this as they felt they needed an ace, and Legend thought life was the one. KT agreed that Leenock is not a too bad substitute for life to achieve good results in proleague.
The gist: Legend thought his team needed an ace and initiated the trade. KT also thought that loss of life would not have too much an impact in its proleague results and so the trade was finalized.
I feel like KT's training environment is a lot better than Afreecas, but Life will have more opportunity to play and be the ace of Afreeca's team, so I guess thats a win.
Ugh, so hard to latch on to any team these days. No stability anymore. I do like this trade though, makes things a bit more balanced and ST regains one of the faces of their team.
Hope ByuL stays put. Can always rely on CJ playing him nearly 100% of the time :p
Even though Leenock isn't as strong a player as life, as a KT fanboy this trade still makes me happy as Leenock is more fun than Life. Kinda sad that KT's roster isn't as strong as it used to be though. Also it's good to get some more talent on the Freecs so they're more competitive in SPL.

With enough money players surely would change their mind rather fast
RIP Life career .. afreeca team has a really weak roster.. Keen , Alive , billowy ,super ? thats all confirmed average players at best ...there is no support , really sad , specially since sc2 is in such state..
i guess KT didnt suit life tbh.. but still , i dont see anyone getting better or keeping up with top players with such team

As far as I know, the level of practice partners don't matter. I remember all of the best BW players like Flash and Jaedong had super mediocre practice parnters.

Well I don't know if Flash and Jaedong being Flash and Jaedong proves that mediocre practice partners are literally equal to great practice partners...

I remember Bisu saying that he played against some random zerg and lost and then found out it was JD, so i guess they also played online (fish server maybe?)
Really surprised but then it makes sense when you think about it.
Afreecs look quite good now. Alive looks promising so far, Keen did quite ok (as always), Life can be a beast if he wants to (he was valuable in proleague for startale before) and curious got significantly better last year. Even Billowy and Super are solid (resultwise at least ^^) and they have two of the very few real rookies on their team.
And if Life was transferred at Afreeca's request, I say why? Life's never been that great at Proleague anyway, they'd have been better off taking an ace from SKT instead of Life.
Life really started to underperform in individual leagues once he joined KT, so it was likely he wasn't a fan of their practice environment. I just hope he doesn't end up like PartinG and gets blocked from playing in Proleague. Not too familiar with KeSPA's weird transfer rules.
makes sense, honestly. Leenock has always been a good team league player. presumably he can fit in with KT. meanwhile afreeca gets the star to put in front of their brand, and take the gamble that Life can be in team leagues what he is in individual leagues.

Not sure if this is good for SBENU or not, but I'm pretty sure its good for Life so I'll assume it is. Now if only Samsung would would pick up a decent ace (DRG please?) we would have a very competitive round.

Yes we all know Life its a champion in any team , and that startale was in a completly diferent context , he did a royal road , still that doesnt change the fact that his team is weak , and that he wont win anything with this team , specially since they wont be traveling anymore... he is not in SL , and he still not even qualify for GSL yet .

Being on KT wouldn't change the fact that he didn't qualify for GSL. If Life is in a slump, he'll manage to be in a slump no matter where he is, and he'll get out of it no matter where he is, too.
I like this. Never felt tht KT and Life synced. And I like Leenock and Losira, hopefully they can make the legend of "KT playoff zergs" return so I can see it live :D

Dear is a pretty solid ace.
Dear was 0-2 in ace matches last year. Of course there is always the possibility that Solar starts winning ace matches this year, but I wouldn't suggest betting your fpl points on that one.
Life wasn't adding much to KT Rolster in Proleague and he was never really that good in team leagues. His indiviual results were also better on Startale so this move is good for both teams. KT Rolster gets a good Proleague player and is probably dumping some salary while Afreeca gets some much needed star power.

T1 is SC`s NYY: The evil empire that extends its tentacles everywhere. There`s no chance in hell.
Really won't make much difference to KTs Proleague chances. Losira probably did better than Life last season anyway, and KT will still have its core of Zest Stats and TY.

I think this move suits both KT and Life, since he really underperformed in individual leagues under KT, apart from the GSL win he got basicly two weeks after he joined, so I don't think KT would get any credit for that win. In PL he didn't really deliver for the team either.

Maybe, just maybe, Life wasn't that happy at KT so they traded him for a less talented player who would be happy playing for them? Maybe it has something to do with not being fielded against sOs - where Zest, TY and Stats were all chosen over him?

One thing I've found dealing with a lot of Asian Businessmen is that collusion, on certain things, is generally expected over there. The whole "everyone goes down together" effect. Though Afreeca probably had to pay a bit to get Life, but they needed an Ace player and it worked okay for both teams.
Well this is an interesting thing to wake up to. For Proleague having Losira and Leenock over Life (why do they all start with L? ._.) is a net positive, though it does lower the chance of individual champs from KT. Oh well, welcome to KT Mr. Leenock.

pfft, individual champs have more to do with the player than the team.

Well, let's be honest, for Proleague he wasn't really worth the salary overall. Leenock and Losira both had great records last year. And if Leenock ever got back in form he'd be truly a force to be reckoned with. Will be interesting to see who gets more playtime.
Overall I'm okay with this. My only gripe is now that KT has a GSL finals rematch happening in the practice house every day and I don't get to watch. Also KT has to redo the photoshoot or at least remove Life from all pictures

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most widely watched sports have some rules regarding which teams can pick up which players, eg. worst-performing teams get first pick, specifically to prevent the sort of domination that we've seen from SKT over the years.
KeSPA is actually quite unique in that - as far as we know, anyway - player acquisition has always essentially been a free for all.
Let's grant for the moment that Life was given to Afreeca out of charity (a theory I don't agree with, because Life is pretty shoddy in PL), are you against that sort of interference on principle or do you just not like how arbitrarily it was applied in this one instance (eg not a player from SKT, but KT; only once instead of a regular ruling)?

As far as I know, this only exists in team sports with a draft system (i.e. NA only) Every other sport is pretty capitalist, although some have salary caps which might require similar moves in grabbing less expensive players who can still offer something to the team
On January 27 2016 15:48 WrathSCII wrote: I don't understand, if you want aces... go check SKT, they are OP as fuck, they need to get players from SKT not KT!
KT is probably more willing to accept this trade than SKT, I reckon in part because they were practice partners with (formerly) SBENU last season. Also Life is probably willing to play for Afreeca with slightly less salary than on KT but more freedom (and even the chance to stream SC2 every now and then I think) to do Life things in return.

Life's problem is proleague is a best of 1, 5 times. Life excells at longer series, best of 1's and best of 3's are not his forte. And you have to think team leagues are more important to KT than individual leagues, plus Afreeca wants someone who'll win a championship. This trade makes perfect sense.

Afreeca also want someone who's clutch in ace match situations, and Life is pretty clutch.
So again, props to Wolf for calling Life leaving KT months ago.
Did Life even have any say in the matter? looks more like organizations are balancing out power to make the league more competitive which is good. But what do the players want?

I want Leenock&Life on same team
He got top 2 at Blizzcon and 2nd in the first GSL Pre-Season, I don't think his results are the reason here. Especially since Leenock has no comparable results. Honestly Life asking to change teams is more likely than KT wanting to get rid of him.

Hm I would fine it weird if Life got less money now, Afreeca certainly seems to have the money to pay him big. I guess KT also got a quite a bit, I don't see them accepting otherwise. Sure Leenock does quite well in Proleage, but when it comes to Starpower and individual leages they can't compare. Life is worth a loooot more.

Pretty sure you need a lot of money to compensate the team for their player and pay those aces a hefty salary. I don't think selling ByuN's computer was enough for that.

Afaik that's mostly true in NA sports, because there show > competition ; here in Europe you don't see that kind of thing. I dislike it because trying to "avoid domination" artificially is something that's viewer-focused, and as all superficial things it's something that's not good for the health of the sport. What the hell is the narrative interest of watching PL if teams start to give ace players to each other out of charity? What's the interest of a sport if everyone has the same chance to win? What's the point if there are no favorites and underdogs? Should Djokovic play with a ballast on his racket when he's playing players worse than him?
Well I can't read Korean, but the wording of the translation suggests that this was just a trade of player for player, no money involved. Even more it suggests that it was done not out of mutual benefit, but because ST needed it and KT either felt charitable enough to do it or was forced to comply. Surely, this is just a feeling from an unofficial translation, but it does not really seem as a competitive move, but has more of a wrestling vibe to it.

I think the player has also something to say in this regard. And Life seemed to like the option to return to Starfreeca Tareecs and being the best player there. While Leenock finally found a Team, that will give him solid practice against Terran and Protoss but also will field him as a Zerg player.

well yeah, I understand player has a say in it. I also understand that team has even mroe of a say. they could've told him to gtfo with request :D but yeah, life's absence won't make a change in proleague as he was never any good in team leagues anyway. it's just that I won't be able to cheer for him in individual leagues.

I wonder about that. KT and Afreeca/SBENU made 2 player trades this off-season. I rarely ever see teams trade players tbh. The teams must be close
yeah, same. well i just really hate kt seeing lose high profile players and bring in players who most likely won't make an impact in proleague and definitely won't make an impact in individual leagues.

Leenock used to be amazing in both team and individual leagues, he just has to get back in form. And especially in Proleague, last year he did more for SBENU than Life for KT

dno, while he used to be amazing, i think the last season was just a one off flash of old self. hope i'm wrong tho.
I don't think its as significant as people are making it out to be. Life has never been more than a slightly above average team league player. Leenock gets around the same results in team leagues save from when he was on Prime.

It's just the "But it's Life GOAT Zerg player!!!!1" effect I think. Yeah Life is probably more likely to win a tournament this year than Leenock, but KT doesn't really lose fighting power in Proleague.
I wonder how close StarTale and KT is, it says that KT was the first team that Legend approached, and they did 2 player trades already.... hm, I would freak out if suddenly Afreeca receive a player from SKT tmr.
WHOAA, best SC2 related news in the last 12-14months. So cool. I really didnt like Life`s play after he joined KT. He got a lot worse and KT seemed to have something against his heavy upgraded Ling style. Hope he gets his form back and kicks ass. And since SoS took his #1 from him at Blizzcon, he has something to say about that i hope :D.

Not funny when we know half the spots at the Global Finals are reserved for WCS Korea ~_~

Imagine if foreigners suddenly invaded Korea and stole those spots!
This had to have been one of the prerequisites to Afreeca buying out SBENU. I know Life isn't the best Team League player but I'm guessing Afreeca went to KeSPA and said "No Marquee Player, No Deal"

Mfw leenock pretty much did the same as Life last season
But keep on blindly hating instead of actually looking at their results in SPL.

I'm not hating on Leenock, I hate to see KT lose high profile players as I said. Atm I'm convinced that Leenock will have the same impact on KT's proleague season as Life (basically, none whatsoever), while he won't even get close to Life's level in individual leagues. Here's to Leenock proving me wrong.
As far as we know, this'll be it. Unless they got more surprise signings in store.
So DRGLing is not DRG, right?
Correct. He's relatively new, just breaking into the pro scene. He played his first ever televised series in Code A about 2 weeks ago. Might check out the VODs, he's got talent for sure.

Cool lineup, really SartTale-esque.
So PartinG being a free-agent, please come back?
Finally, somehow get Squirtle back, and I'll be oh-so-happy.
isn't parting still barred from playing in proleague though?
They would have to negotiate with SKT to put in a formal request to the KeSPA chairman to free PartinG from the restriction and buy the rights to PartinG's contract.

1358 days 6 hours left according to the somewhat arbitrary countdown in his fan club. (During this time, he can't play for other teams than SKT, unless SKT agrees.)
this isnt as big of a deal for KT in proleague as people are making it out to be. While he's been a fabulous individual league player throughout his career, Life has only been an ok team league player.

And makes proleague much more interesting. Besides, life's style does not really match with Kt's coaching method. Imho, life should have a coach say "Do whatever you wanna do and gimme a win"

Life isnt a teamleague beast and i feel that KT wasnt a good environment for him. So, i guess everyone wins with this trade. Even me, cause i hated support KT :D
Life obviously is much better at the BO tournament style where his adaptation and improvisation take over. Clearly the KT style training regiment didn't seem to mesh w/ his beautifully crazy play-style, but he did seem to become noticeably stronger at standard mechanics and crisp timings towards the end of last year despite lackluster results. Although in the BlizzCon GF, he switched back to his old insane self and took sOs to the absolute brink in G7.
Think we are being a bit too quick to discount Life's BO1 PL ability. In R1 last year, he carried a bad Startale team to the round playoffs (where they never got a chance regrettably) on the strength of multiple ace match wins. While his game is not ideally suited for PL, to discount possibly the most accomplished and gifted SC2 player ever (who is still stunningly young) is absurd. Now he's the unquestioned face of the team, and could easily excel in an environment likely much more relaxed and suited to his tastes.
For KT, I like the swap too. On paper it seemed like they were getting Jordan in his prime when they stunningly acquired Life last season. But it didn't help as both Life and KT never performed relative to their ability. KT never was able to establish a winning core coupled with supporting cast. As Life/TY took turns being the 5th wheel except when Stats was briefly benched.
With God retired, TY now assumes a guaranteed starting slot as their only viable T. And by subtracting Life, Losira who is a PL beast gets regular playing time which should be a big plus. Leenock at this stage in his career seems much better at PL preparation as a fairly frequent sniper, as he showed some of the most creative Z strategies last season. A core of Zest/TY/Losira/Stats with Leenock/Jjakji/Speed in support appears very solid.
I'm guessing it's an economic and promotional request from Afreeca, still feels really weird, guess we will have to wait for the player interviews and media day.
On January 27 2016 17:00 OtherWorld wrote: Lol, so a big team gives away a big player to a lower team because of the show? What is this, a competitive game or NASCAR?
Afaik that's mostly true in NA sports, because there show > competition ; here in Europe you don't see that kind of thing. I dislike it because trying to "avoid domination" artificially is something that's viewer-focused, and as all superficial things it's something that's not good for the health of the sport. What the hell is the narrative interest of watching PL if teams start to give ace players to each other out of charity? What's the interest of a sport if everyone has the same chance to win? What's the point if there are no favorites and underdogs? Should Djokovic play with a ballast on his racket when he's playing players worse than him?
Isn't it contradicting to want to have a couple of teams dominate but also want to have good competition? How can good competition be possible if you know the same 1 or 2 teams will always win? I would say that using things such as salary caps and drafting rules to avoid domination is not artificial at all. It helps to promote league parity. The interest of watching a sport when any team can win at any time is just that. You don't know who will win, so you tune in to find out and watch some high quality games because most likely the teams are close in skill and you won't have one team trouncing the other. Why would you watch if you knew who was going to win?
I would also argue that the "show", as you put it, and good competition go hand in hand. Having league parity and good competition should naturally lead to high viewership (the show), because instead of having just one team's fans be invested in the team and the league, you can have all team's fans interested and invested.
With regard to the Djokovic reference, you can't really compare individual sports with team sports/leagues like that. That's like saying top players such as Life, sOs, or Innovation should play with only one hand when they play in GSL/SSL against lesser players. Well, no. That would be an artificial way to avoid domination. But in team leagues/sports, should every team be able to have access to and draft the same players? Yes, they should. The way they would potentially differentiate themselves in their league would be through player development, coaching, strategies, etc.
I'm shocked they let him go. I'd have thought with Flash leaving they'd need all hands to the pumps, for publicity and sponsorship, as well as Proleague etc.
Still, if the KT Gods decree this a sane move, who am I to argue? That said, Losira and Leenock in a Zerg tag-team? Fuck yeah, I'm all aboard!

Last year he had a better record in Proleague than Life. Life did much better in individual tournaments though. In Legacy of the Void so far he's been doing okay (but only okay, no more, no less). We'll have to see how he develops on KT.

It'll be good to see Life back in "ST", and a great pick up for them. Things are definitely on the up and up for the Freeks.

he is really strong in zvz especially, and always was bette rin teamleagues than life. so kt prolly wants to focus more on proleague and less on individual championships.

Well he played some online games and I don't like disregarding those, or qualifier games. And he did okay on that front. But who knows, he might be pretty hot atm and has no chance to show it, he might be in poor form and needs a new environment. Will be interesting to see. But we have even less of a clue about Jaedong's form so that might not tell us anything in the end

Leenock went 11-7 in 2015 Proleague (61% winrate), while Life went 12-11 (52% winrate) when he was on KT Rolster. He looked solid to me. Haven't seen him in anything recent though.

Its one of those things where they (KT) should of at least QUESTIONED why all of a sudden life wanted out and to be traded, you mean to tell me the team didnt bother looking into it a bit to try and at the very least keep him on their team? And that it was all done on a whim?
If Peyton manning got traded but then all of sudden it was relieved that hes actually going to jail for a felony, you damn well bet the team that tried to trade him would have to show that they weren't in the know and weren't just trying to dump him onto someone elses lap. Even if they could prove that, they would still have to pay the NFL and would lose their traded player.
At the end of it all Life continued to be scum by trying to screw over another organization in a good faith deal.

Leenock for Life is a good trade for KT though, Leenock performed better than Life last PL and would be on significantly less salary than Life, so I doubt they would be trying too hard to keep him.
If KT initiated the trade I'd agree with you, but since they didn't I don't see a problem.
