What's distressing is 0 Taiwanese players
Isn't the Taiwanese scene basically dead at this point?
China has had a resurgence but afaik Taiwan died 2 years ago :/

not even close
Oh I thought when the big tournament went away, it was all starting to go downhill, that coupled with the fact that one of their biggest teams dispanded their SC2 roster, but I have to admit Taiwan is probably the scene I know the least about
So yeah, I'm finished with the OP, a mod can change the title if something more accurate is better, since I made it before casters and schedule were announced. Or not, I don't mind .
I think two bo5 GSL groups into bo7 semis could've been really sick for this event. Perfect opportunity to test something new since games tend to be faster in LotV.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. Although if we're lucky the star power is diminished on the grounds of Proleague starting right afterwards. I'd be fine with that.

Yeah he is the only invite that stands out as "should he be there?". Ptitdrogo, ShowTime, Nerchio, Mlord would've been sick. Him and the supposedly retired MC I guess.

He still was the best foreigner at the end of HotS. sOs hasn't shown that great play in LotV yet either, but no one is arguing that he shouldn't be there and with good reason I think.

sOs has played 4 televised 1v1 games in LotV and is the reigning Starcraft World Champion. Lilbow meanwhile has been completely overshadowed by other foreign players in LotV so far when playing in the same tournaments as them. I'd be fine with Lilbow if he had an interesting playstyle but... well, he never had that.
Don't know but to be honest I don't understand why Lilbow gets invited to an event that was supposed to be Korean only after they got booted from Katowice?

Well they also didn't get us the top performers of the IEM season either. So just pretend like they never said anything like that.

Oh well, lets hope his training for LOTV will pay off now since they are Koreans and he was preparing to face them in LOTV not some foreigners do some random non-meta stuff
This invitation system is wrong for a WCS level tournament. It should be removed. All players should qualify in their regions. Its not fair to other players...

It's not a WCS tournament. It's a throw-money-at-some-players tournament.

Dont know if you are joking but this isnt a wcs tournament. No wcs points. Just allowing some koreans to have a good time. Pissed we lost katowice....
I really hope IEM is doing a global event later on. They were always sick events before this year and if this is the best they have to offer us I'll be severely disappointed.
Pretty strange invite list regardless . Not even Zest when he's the reigning IEM champ?

I'm just praying it's because Proleague starts next week and most KeSPA players refused. Only acceptable version of this reality. I mean, they didn't even get Solar and Solar plays in everything!

Can we at least have WCS points this year in pl since Korea got fucked as hard as they did?

Probably not, I reckon that'd have been announced when the WCS changes were announced.

We did have a few declines from KeSPA teams due preparations/clashes for/with Proleague/GSL/SSL which is a decision we respect of course. In addition PartinG was confirmed with flight booked but then had some health issues and had to cancel.
ByuN is a boss though, flying back the day before his GSL match. Excited to see him in action, hopefully we can get a nice interview with him via Susie
I'm also glad we can't have a repeat of Snutehosts vs herO from a IEM Toronto open bracket.
All in all, it should be a fun and interesting event.

I don't know when Proleague starts, it's not my position to question a team on what they think is best for their team/players.
Clashes referred to the fact there are 4 GSL matches on the 3rd, the day players would travel back from Taiwan, with more on the 5th. Naturally a trip many don't want to make ahead of matches of such importance.

Aren't you the person who thought +2 stalker/sentry vs roach/hydra was the pinnacle of RTS gameplay? Yeah no, I don't agree with you. His playstyle is the definition of boring for me.
A looser bracket would be so nice. Even bo3. Even not broadcasted.... Especially for the little foreigners who travel so long, and then could hypothetically just play one match...

Disappointment. The only tournament, I was looking for in 2016. The last good tournament, even when it was going to be invitational only. I was hoping for a tournament with 8 star Koreans. And instead, there are 2 foreigners, 2 foreign Koreans, 1 new Korean and only 3 star ones. But I am quite happy for Snute, I would even prefer a tournament with him and 7 Koreans ... But we have got what we have got.
At least, I am happy to see sOs as it will be probably the last time, we will see him in an international tournament. I have no hopes for BlizzCon under this year's conditions.
herO is the true star and it will be great to see him there, he might win it all.
Soulkey is a good one, great to have him there.
ByuN, the "NEW" star is the second favorite. But we know, he is really good and we will see him in many more tournaments I am sure. I somehow wanted to see the old stars one last time.
Snute, great for him, one of the last options to compete with Koreans before BlizzCon.
I really like Polt, great performance at BlizzCon, but here I hoped to see the real Koreans.
MC should cast, sing, make fun ... but OK, only thanks to him, sOs has a chance to get to the next round :-)

Because though he is a good player, he's not a top-tier player and a lot of people hoped all 8 of the invited players would be top-tier Koreans because other than Blizzcon this may have been the only opportunity to have a truly stacked weekend tournament.

Very excited for the great lineups! Polt/Soulkey and Snute/herO is mega hype. MC/sOs for the dirtiest player in the game. Lilbow will try as hard as he can, while getting ready to be the best in SC3.
