Legacy of the Void: StarCraft Legends Archon Mode Showmatch
With the World Championship Global Finals approaching fast, we’ve announced an exciting Archon showmatch that celebrates some of the most successful Archon teams playing today. And while we celebrate the champions of today, we also look to celebrate champions of the past. Enter the StarCraft Legends Archon Mode exhibition. On November 6, two of the most successful and well-known professional players from both StarCraft II and StarCraft: Brood War will pair up for the ultimate showmatch.
The first player representing the Zerg legends won three GSL championships during a two-year period and even had an award named in his honor due to his consistency and excellence. He is one of the most accomplished and innovative StarCraft II players of all time, Lim ‘NesTea’ Jae Duk. He will be joined by a former teammate whose aggressive play style earned him the nickname of ‘Storm Zerg.’ Reaching multiple finals during his career he has experience in premier tournaments that few players can match. Having won a StarCraft championship at the very first BlizzCon in 2005, beloved StarCraft: Brood War legend, Hong ‘YellOw’ Jin Ho will join NesTea and look to repeat that feat.
They’ll face a tough challenge as they take on two of the greatest Terran players of all-time. Jung ‘Mvp’ Jong Hyun is considered by many to be the greatest player in StarCraft II history. A four-time GSL champion, Mvp’s trophy case is filled with premier event titles. Now at BlizzCon 2015, he’ll have a chance to add another victory to his list of accomplishments. Joining him is a legend from StarCraft: Brood War, one of the most well-known esports players ever, and with good reason. His dominance during the rise of StarCraft as a competitive sport was unrivaled, and his reign continued for so long that many began to call him The Emperor—Lim ‘Boxer’ Yo Hwan will be joining Mvp to take on their Zerg opponents.
NesTea and YellOw versus Mvp and Boxer—a match featuring some of the greatest champions in gaming history. Now these legendary players will take the stage once again to usher in StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. It all takes place at BlizzCon . . . and you definitely don’t want to miss it!
The StarCraft Legends showmatch is part of the Archon Mode exhibition from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. PST on Friday, November 6 at BlizzCon in Anaheim, California.
Edit: Psione confirms that it will be a best of 3!
Wow fuck me, I've literally been rambling about how I'm disappointed with LotV on Teamspeak and one second later I just sit here feeling like Cartman waiting for the Wii to come out... And I think I need to change pants.

Fun fact: Both Mvp and BoxeR have won Starleagues by bunker-rushing in the final game, but NesTea has won a Starleague by defending a bunker rush in the final game.

And yellow won a starleague by... wait...
I wonder if the 3 will make fun of Yellow a lot when they are traveling .
I'm really happy Blizzard made this possible. I honestly felt like the hype for Starcraft at BlizzCon wasn't that big. Somehow it seemed too quite. But this just raised the hype ad infinitum.
I'm surprised they brought in Yellow. He is almost unknown to the SC2 crowd, but you can bet he got a decent paycheck for this. Was it really worth it from Blizzard's point of view?
But personally I am ecstatic about Yellow being there; Heartbreak Ridge forever.

I imagine it is more for the BW crowd. The mention of Yellow and Boxer will turn heads (at least slightly), even if BW players don't like SC2.
Omfg!! I haven't felt this hyped since... ever! YellOw is my second favorite zerg only behind JaeDong (Yellow always second, even in our hearts). The only way this could be more hype for me if it was JD/NesTea vs Flash/MVP.
Kinda makes me think: if they ever release a StarCraft 3, who will be the stars of HotS and LotV who shined almost as bright as MVP and Nestea in WoL, BoxeR and YellOw in early BW, and Flash and Jaedong in late BW.

I think they will still invite BoxeR and Yellow when they reveal StarCraft 3 :D.
Going to be so sick. First post on TL in a long time because this will be amazing. Also I think doing it in Archon Mode will make the games way more exciting.
Cool to see these guys play! I just fear that the matches will end up being lackluster. I wouldn't be surprised if a 1v1 between two A rank players would be better than this...

You don't have to fear, they will be quite lackluster... and it is really strange to me that all these people are hyped for this kind of thing. Well hopefully I am wrong, but from previous showmatches like this one, it doesn't seem like it...

No one's gonna be amazing at this format yet, might as well see some legends. Why not? Also, NesTea was a great 2v2 player. Also it's fucking Boxer.
Blizzard has put way more effort into hyping/promoting this than the actual event. They have not put much effort into promoting this. That said these teams are awesome and even though the games probably won't be great the storyline makes it amazing. Rooting for Yellow/Nestea ezpz

While I could see MC being more expensive than Mvp, I don't see Bisu being more expensive than Boxer (unless Boxer is doing it for fun and flight and hotel).

Well MC is in a team with HuK anyway, they will play TLO/Snute.

No one watches these things for the mastery and skill--its a damn showmatch.

Yup that's my feeling as well.
I understand the concern, but one thing to note that is vastly different is that it's an Archon Mode showmatch. So we're getting their combined skill set. I think it can be something special.

Regardless, the showmatch will be special just from the participants alone. I just hope they put in some decent LotV practice beforehand.

the novelty would wear off after the first game.
I'm trying to be optimistic here.
I think the novelty can last 3 games. Nestea can probably carry Yellow and Mvp can carry boxer to a certain extent (but boxer still can hold quite a bit on his own)
The real question is whether boxer can bring some crazy shit strat into this showmatch.

Even if we don't get a great high skill match, these 4 players being part of one event is special. Good luck have fun.
Sick lineup for hype, but I can't help but feel there's a real risk of the games being onesided : / Would have preferred an "old pro+current pro" set of teams, but I guess the current pros will be a little preoccupied at Blizzcon
edit: damn, now I am hyping myself up over the possibilities they could have done, like Innovation/Mvp vs Nestea/soO or Boxer/Maru vs Yellow/Life. Now that would be like blow-your-brains level of crazy sick (still gonna be hyped for this tho)

Whoever was planning for Blizzcon really knew what we'd like. And I'm practically giddy. Of course the games won't be that good, but for something like this, it doesn't matter that much. It'll be nice to see the legends at Blizzcon, which is something Blizzcon really should be about.
We're also going to see bunker rushes and lurker rushes. It should be hilarious.

yeah I see your point, a LeeSsang Rok would have been more fun though.

The showmatch was a little sad despite the hype, the "project A" videos were better. Although Boxer just trolling Yellow by using a line of bunkers to cross the whole map was a nice touch.
For an event like that, it's more about the show and how the players are put in the spotlight than about the games themselves. Would almost be worth it to script the games before hand.

I'm kinda surprised they put Boxer and Yellow on separate teams, they seemed kinda inseparable with those commercials they've been in together for other games.

Well... this is SC2. lol. They'd get crushed if they archoned against two of the best SC2 players of all time.
This will be really amazing! Of course I'd prefer Saviour or July than Yellow, but still this is the biggest hype feeling from a long time to see such legends.
What I would really really love (because this is casual, lets be honest)
Have like 1 map be serious, but then do crazy shit like Monobattles, bunker wars, etc...
And have half the screen be their faces and the other half the game, and make it so they are in talking distance from each other talking shit the whole time.
should have been 2nd. He deserves 50 Bunker rush in a row. On every map that existed.

Problem is : 99% of us don't speak korean
I don't really care what they say to be honest--I just want to see their facial expressions as they talk shit to each other.
"Another bunker? Is that the only thing you guys know how to fucking build!" -Yellow
"I'm only using one hand to beat you guys, the injured one." -MVP
"This is so much better than poker, ha ha ha!" -Boxer
"Am I the only one who practiced for this?" -Nestea

Mvp pulled some awesome bunker rushes in his time as well. I remember one (though I'm not sure what tournament it was) where he pulled to the natural vZ and blocked the ramp with 3 bunkers.
Just saw on liquipedia that there's also a HuK+MC vs TLO+Snute archon mode showmatch happening as well!
With all due respect to The Emporer, The Storm Zerg, The King, and The Creator of the Universe, I'm actually somewhat more excited for the "Champions Showmatch" I feel like that'll be a closer match, and I have no idea who I'm even rooting for in it. Whereas I'm sorry but MVP+Boxer are going to absolutely roflstomp this.

You really think the king of BoX preparations and the emperor of funky wonky one time strat won't come prepared ? I mean. I play Zerg. I love yellow and nestea but ... Z might even be OP in LotV. But man... Boxer and MVP. They will crush the Zerg team.

You could say the same about YellOw nad NesTea.
YellOw was never known for wonky strats and preperation as far as i remember.
