Just checked twitter and saw that Petraeus is stepping back from full time sc2. Apparently he is going to AUT University. He will be participating in WCS but in his own words

"I'll continue to play part-time and compete in WCS of course, but I won't be returning in a full-time capacity."

Sad, as hes an incredible player and definitely one of my top favorite foreigners.

How did Stephano manage to win tournaments without practicing a single minute? Everyone is different and some players are good and some players completely suck. Stephano was one of those players who never had to practiced and still raped the shit out of scrubs.

Good for him, and with his move back to SEA he should be able to keep a WCS seed as long as he wants it.

Stephano played a lot, when he "retired" and started playing part time, he couldn't win shit. "Stephano doesn't practice" is a myth.

you got swag_broed.

All these foreign players who "retire partial" but still grind their easy money in the WCS. I dont know what sucks more, that they dont get beaten out by more hungry and training players or that they do not channel their whole potential anymore. I think the first one.

Well nothing really new there are a ton of retired players who still play sc2 part time or make a comeback for some examples: Stephano/DIMAGA/Petraeus/Kane/NaNiwa/qxc/Scarlett/HuK.

Ah well, I see it as a shame. To me here is one of the players that was right on the cusp of being on the level of many of the best Korean players. Still, in his shoes I'd also choose to focus on university. Now speaking broadly, if the proper incentives were in place for pro-gamers, like they are for pro-athletes...

"retiring from fulltime" is kinda a deceptive title no?
the word retiring should only be used when someone is hanging it up totally.
going part time is just that, going part time.

One of my fondest memories of Petreus is him playing from the Root house on the kr gm server on New Year's Eve. That's the passion this guy has. Always playing more than his peers, always seeking the best players he can face (kr server, traveling worldwide to find the best practice houses). I truly believe he has just started to see where his hard work and talent can take him. But alas, another one bites the dust.

Good luck in uni. This is a big blow to the foreign scenes. One of the only talented players willing to go the whole nine yards.

In the defense of stephano, he did retire very shortly after the infestor broodlord era and it was becoming more evident in his results that he did not practice as hard as he needed. i don't believe he ever did practice a whole lot compared to a lot of zergs.

Sure, they may have been practicing 10 hours a day for the past 2 months in preparation for the upcoming WCS qualifiers, but we've traveled around the world, made MANY sacrifices, and practiced thousands of hours to get where we are today, even if we are partially retired. I think we deserve some reward for that, don't you?

I blame this on his Swarm host war game against Stephano from last year.

Yeah I can't imagine Polt getting wasted every weekend and slummin' it with some babes. Though I could be wrong...

Just different priorities I guess.

I didn't get wasted at all or bang girls. I'm nowhere near as good as Polt in anything..

How did Stephano manage to win tournaments without practicing a single minute? Everyone is different and some players are good and some players completely suck. Stephano was one of those players who never had to practiced and still raped the shit out of scrubs.

Stephano is a prime example of a talented specimen who just knew how to play sc2, while the koreans slave away to get better, and other foreigners slave away for mediocrity. What an amazing player Stephano was. It's too bad he had to move on with his life.

Stephano did play a lot though. The main difference between him and others was that - according to him, at least - he didn't practice specific strategies much, as he had insane game analysis.

The question i have is, If Kane does something and then doesn't tweet about it, did it really happen?

Oh believe me, there's TONS that happens that I can't tweet about. If you look at my tweets they're mostly concerning Starcraft

I take a break from visiting TL, and some guy I've never heard of is retiring. nice

When did you start playing bro?

What do you like to do in your free time?
what race do you play bro?

What were your goals in SC2 and how did you go about achieving them?

It would be interesting if I did an interview with him.

Did any other foreigner work as hard as he did? I'm not sure.

In New Zealand they let nearly anyone into Uni once you turn 20. It's the same way I got in. He's only 19 though (according to wiki) maybe he got an exemption based on earlier test results.

That means that his career was short, and he still rose to the top of the EU scene. Which also means he's a million times better at competitive RTS then you could ever hope to be, ya fucking nitwit.

Or he just plays many hours a day with perfectly manufactured regime so it is effective as much as possible. Back at uni I was able to play almost 5 or 6 hours a day and get to the pub afterwards anyway. Though that is the love of studying programming/networking. You can do all the tasks in the train because laptop and most of the info is out there in e-form

So I can imagine Polt training hard. And if he has his own study program as some athletes have(at least in Czech Republic), aw yeah!

To the OP>
I did not properly know you and I think that I have never seen you play, man. But still, any good player who stops full-time is a loss. And who knows, maybe I saw you on some DH/IEM, I concentrate mostly on Protoss players.

Anyway, have a good time during you studies!

Edit> Also, can someone link some memorable games - either because Petraeus played good(even when losing) or because he played something weird and insane Thanks!

Had a sad interaction with this guy on his stream before he joined root/myi. After he became somewhat a progamer I thought something changed for him, but from what progamers say and what I randomly caught at his stream and ladder games - hes still a jerk. Well, I guess nobody will miss this bm guy.

Won't miss the guy. I was perma banned from his chat after questioning his decision to do something in a random ladder game. At the time, I had donated around $25 to him prior to the ban. When I messaged him on twitch explaining I had donated x amount of dollars already and meant no harm in chat, he insulted my grammar and said I'd have to pay him $200 for an unban.

Hope he's grown up since this occurrence, but GL regardless.

Hope he's grown up since this occurrence, but GL regardless.

actually this is absolutely hilarious and makes me like him more if it happened

not sure what you want people to do with an unverifiable screenshot from a year and a half ago of a private conversation on twitch. kinda seems like you just want attention and to stir up drama

Whether you think it's verifiable or not, I couldn't care less. I'm posting regarding my experience with this individual and wishing them luck for the future. I highly doubt any drama will stir from it, considering several pros have already come forward in the past and spoken about his toxic personality.

How did Stephano manage to win tournaments without practicing a single minute? Everyone is different and some players are good and some players completely suck. Stephano was one of those players who never had to practiced and still raped the shit out of scrubs.

Stephano played a lot, when he "retired" and started playing part time, he couldn't win shit. "Stephano doesn't practice" is a myth.

Kind of surprised Pet is going to university, I thought he had dropped out of high school

It always baffles me when someone gives up their education to pursue one of the most unstable careers ever. Is it really worth the risk?

Depends on how you view yourself as a person.

I mean, let's not have illusions here, as a progamer you are a professional athlete or entertainer at best. If people are passionate about it enough to pursue it as a career all the powers to them through their trials and tribulations. But I'm not going to pretend like it's a career that produces more social worth or wealth than a career that can be pursued through college education. Obviously this is a gaming website so we tend to value it greatly and be very passionate about it, but I would never recommend giving up the potential of making a real difference in the world through medicine or engineering or any number of worthy crafts.

Strange that you think a $25 donation entitles you to anything. A random twitch guy 'questioning' a pro after a loss might catch a rage ban now and then. People get sensitive after losses and will often resent 'advice' from less skilled players/friends let alone twich chat randoms. Whining in a subsequent PM acting like he owes you some sort of special consideration over $25 wasn't going to win him over either.

I was involved in the SEA scene as he developed and never heard anything particularly bad regarding him. Just a talented, young kiwi trying to make it to the big time.

Never said a donation meant I was entitled to anything. I just brought it up to him to prove I meant no harm by the question in twitch chat about some in-game decision after a loss (which can often be misconstrued as sarcasm, etc.. over the internet). You're just trying to make me look like the bad guy, but it's fine if you're confused and misunderstood my point.

Yeah he was quite the BM guy back in the day when I was playing. He also bm'd my friend like a week or two ago (he crushed my friend was a 1 sided game) and I knew it was the real one when he asked me .
