Shiro made this for StarCraft 1's birthday and I cropped it so thanks shiro!
Today is a big day here on TeamLiquid, for July 27th marks the fifth anniversary of the release of SC2. Our little baby turns five. The game that collected many of us here to gather as a community and watch games around the world, and challenge ourselves to improve and overcome obstacles to become better gamers and possibly people. For me personally it notes the only game I've ever gone to a midnight release of to pick up a physical copy.
Also remember that our #WhyILoveSC2 contest ends today so get posting or tweeting if you want a chance to win some super sick swaggy things.
Now to celebrate with this lovely 5 year video courtesy of DTDstarcraft of SC2HL.
Or this one from our team at WCS Season 2 in Toronto.

StarCraft 2 is love
But seriously, happy birthday to StarCraft 2! Each week we still continue to have great tournaments/events and new fans exploring the scene. Excited to see it grow as the next installment releases.

Ah, I love all you guys. It's been barrels of fun hanging out here with you all, even if I do get grumpy from time to time.
July 27, 2010 I had some friends over for a Starcraft 2 launch party. We baked a cake and made little (abysmal) icing figurines on top of it. Good times.
Second off does this have something to do with the rebranding of StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm into just StarCraft? It's like this on Twitch and the TL sidebar. How do I find LOTV streams when it is like this, lol?

I'm with you.
I love sc2, because of community, one of my best friends I met, I met because of this game. For 5 years I play one game, I watch streams, watch tournaments, I donate to nerds which are better than me and share it by streaming their games. Love it. Thank you Blizzard, thank you community

Unrelated, they just happened to line up I guess. Streamers are supposed to be putting the game in their channel title so you can theoretically see it from our streamer page if that's the case.
Such a good video, that was awesome :D Hard to believe so much has already happened with the game, and I can't wait to see all the awesome games and events that continue to happen as time goes on! Happy birthday, SC2!!

The older Ultralisk had a whopping 800 hp so that might be the main difference. I don't remember the Ultralisk ever feeling overpowered, but maybe it was too beefy back then. Fun fact: it also probably had the building 'headbutt' at that time.
Is it HOTS or LOTV stats? In LOTV i think it has more armor (but that shouldn't matter if lings do minimum damage anyway?) but zerglings also attack much faster with adrenal glands

It is HotS. I didn't realize that the Ultralisk carapace upgrade got buffed in LotV and forgot about the extra 20% attack speed that Zerglings can get now : ( I assume the Zerglings' attack speed buff would be stronger than the Ultralisk's armor buff in this case.
This is why I love SC2, for all the emotions it can make me feel, for those endless nights spent watching people give the best of their hands and minds. This is gaming at its best, fun, demanding, genuine, competitive, social.
It's hard to say how much this game and the community surrounding it matters to me, and how much I hope LotV is great and interesting so that I can enjoy those incredible moments for at least ten more years.
My family, maths and SC2 are probably the three things that matters to me the most and that my life revolves around. It's pretty amazing a video game can make a 30ish years old math teacher with 0 experience of gaming this passionate. I know I owe SC2 a lot of amazing moments of my life in the past 4 years.
Yes. This game is life. This game is what I breathe (though, don't play because of computer restrictions, watch a helluva lot of it). StarCraft is everything.
You know, I actually miss staying up until well past dawn to watch GSL like I did in 2011/12. I miss seeing HuK and NaNiwa make top 8 in GSL Code S. I miss SlayerS, IM, OGS, TSL, NSHS, and ZeNEX. I miss following this game, but I don't know if too much time has passed for me to get back into it.

It is not late, but I feel that before there were less player base, and now there are so much players everywhere, that it's hard to keep following most of them Maybe if you try to get track of the new tournaments and such you can like it a lot, and get some favourites, but for me, most of the players I loved to see retired... or the game became so much standard at some point that I don't feel like the are doing "special" to keep me cheering for them, except few who I sometimes check their matches.
Maybe with LotV the game changes so much and there will REALLY be viable options for all the MUs, that it will be nice to play a lot and watch a lot more again, and some pros will be aknowledge by their own playstyle or army compo, pushes, etc.
Right now I feel a lot of that is lost, except for few, which is kinda sad, and that is the reason I come back from time to time to watch the game but not as 2010 - 2012
Always have been, always will be, I've never really liked or played video games I just like Starcraft, man It teach me effort, never before Starcraft did I tried for real,I always played the "lol didn't work card". And then I play ladder 15 loses in a row I get my ass handed to me and nobody cared if I work or not so I tried, I really did. I wasn't Stephano but it teach me persistance. Starcraft was the big brother I never had.
50 years from now, I will still watch 82yo Artosis explaining how Nestea greatson is the reincarnation of Bogus
God damn. HP SC2. I still remember how we played starcraft 1 even before broodwar was out, as teenagers, drinking beer and trying to figure out how to utilize arbiters most effectively. Now, as an oldish man, I kinda hope I had the time to devote for this baby. I have played LoL every now and then just for fun, since its way easier to pick up after a long while, but real gamers know that Mobas do not have the same spirit in them.
