Today the World’s largest digital festival, DreamHack, is extremely excited to announce that we will be hosting the first ever DreamHack event outside of Europe, with DreamHack Austin officially happening from May 6-8th, 2016 at the Austin Convention Center.
According to the CEO of DreamHack, Marcus Lindmark, there might have a second DreamHack in North America next year too:
It’s been our ambition to expand to North America for a very long time, and today we are thrilled to get the ball rolling by announcing a date and venue for our first event. It’s our ambition to host a second event in another region of North America in 2016 as well, we are very excited to keep ramping things up.

That's pretty awesome. They must be doing really well. Seattle please. xD

PHILADELPHIA. It's still 2 hours from me, but it's pretty much the biggest "hub city" I can get to besides NYC.
|
I know where it will not be... western Canada
I guess somewhere in new England or again Esport-City Toronto.

Also... HYPEEEEE

What happened to Robert Ohlin? Anyone know?
Will you shoot someone if it's DreamHack Las Vegas?

I think that it would have to be somewhere with a very serviceable international airport which basically leaves us with Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.
I'd probably guess Toronto though haha.

Get your fucking dates right. What does 8.7. mean when an European organization announces an NA tournament? 8 of July? 7th of August?
American date system the second most fucked up thing after their shitty imperial units...

oh for the love of everything please come to California!!! i really don't think they will but i would be crazy happy, especially if its San Francisco.. !!!!!!!!!!!

edit: I also highly doubt it's in 2 days.

I assume that means they'll either announce the location in 2 days or it will be August 7th, although it being august 7th sounds too soon

On July 07 2015 04:33 Zeon0 wrote: Get your fucking dates right. What does 8.7. mean when an European organization announces an NA tournament? 8 of July? 7th of August?
American date system the second most fucked up thing after their shitty imperial units... Year-month-day is the international computer standard, as well as the way east asian nations connote date. Americans usually move year to the end, but month before day is far from a uniquely American thing.
On July 07 2015 05:35 OtherWorld wrote: Please let it be IEM Cologne, MN for maximal confusion That would be a lot more viable than you might think. It's easy driving distance of a 3.5 million metro area, and the venue costs would probably be astonishingly low.
EDIT: actually, come to think of it, that's more of an ESL thing, since Dreamhack is more of a convention-style event that hosts tons of different games and has lots of people who are there to play and to compete, rather than to spectate.

Please come to Colorado dreamhack!

Dreamhack as alot of Hometown-Heros as also stronger Koreans in the end then WCS. The most Canadian thing this WCS was a caster...
And Dreamhack brings you more then just some Games of StarCraft. Just watch again the IEM crowd. If I would have to bet money, I would bet on Toronto. Next to Boston. I cannot think about Dreamhack at the West-Coast, even 6 hours timedelay to Europa is hard, but 9 hours? I dont know Kev

DC doesn't really have many great venues (that don't cost an exorbitant amount of money to rent out, anyway) and Baltimore is a terrible city.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but as this is "North America" - perhaps Mexico City? Should be cheap, tons of people - more than any city in Canada or US. Good food. No horrible to overcome visa issues. MajOr would be happy.

sooo its Seattle or SF ? If we consider that the word "clearer" is a clue and those are foggy cities.

Dreamhack Texas. Good choice.
|
Austin is a good choice. Maybe next year it will be in the northeast.
|
So where is it? On the website with the count down the page just continuously reloads when I go there on my phone.

Boooooo.
I just want an SC event I can get to without 5+ hours of travel...

Website says May 6-8th......wow that's not for a while.

Well, at least Austin is definitely closer than Europe!
Games announced?
EDIT: They should really consider Halo. Its always been a thing in North America, and is grower bigger again by the day. And personally, I would LOVE it.

Not less than 7 500 participants got together at Vinci – The International Convention Centre of Tours for DreamHack France. Tours événements has already confirmed a second edition in May 2016. http://www.dreamhack.se/dhs15/2015/05/20/dreamhack-tours-2015-a-real-success-for-the-first-french-edition/

So far away
They are always so far away
|
great in the middle of finals. I guess only old people can go watch
|
YES! But will they have SC2?
|
2016?! I was hoping for some time this year
|
Oh sweet, it's only 6359km from where i live !
|
I feel like there may be planning/scheduling reasons for this, because they have to book everything and try to make sure that it doesn't collide with any major other tournaments.
|

Holy balls that is driving distance IM GOING TO DREAMHACK

MLG Providence. I was there B-)
Welp, looks like Austin, TX. I might have to plan a vacation for next year...
|

I was really hoping they'd do NY or somewhere near here.

No record of this whatsoever... but CALLED IT
Yesterday I thought:
"Now where could they viably put a dreamhack NA that would make as many people as possible mad?" "I guess it would have to be in the middle of the country, like Kansas City or something." "But there's no eSports there... where else could it be?" "Hmm... Hey, SXSW and RoosterTeeth are in Austin. They could do it there, and it's like 1000+ miles away from every other major eSports population center!"
|
Makes sense, Austin seems to be a techcentric hub nowadays
|
Gosh darn it, I lived in Austin for 13 years and right after I move away DH goes there.
|
Well. I guess I'll be making a road trip next Spring.. any1 coming thru or leaving via Phoenix hit me up!
|
Not quite Houston, but close enough! The hype is real, oh man. 10 months and counting.

Austin is just a few hours from home for me. I'll be there!
|
All the people upset would probably be upset no matter what haha. I'm just glad Dreamhack has expanded into NA. Hopefully, more organizations will do the same and we'll get a more developed ecosystem here in the States. It's just an added bonus for me that I'll be living in Austin by the time this event happens haha

I'm sorry but this is absurd. We have been asking for an event in Montreal for years, and they choose to go to the middle of nowhere when it comes to esports entertainment? will there even be sc2?
This is truly ridiculous

And why is that? because Montreal is one of the best cities in the world? Because Montreal is known for their quality, variance and mix (I forgot the elequent word ) of festivals and events? Because Montreal is known for their open minded mentality when it comes to things that are not of the norm, such as e sports events? Because Montreal crowds are notoriously awesome? Because Montreal has some of the best venues in the world to host something like this? Or is it because Montreal isn't at the other end of a country and the temperature there isn't always super fucking humid/hot? :S

M O N T R E A L. Well TeSPA is one of the largest and most successful domestic esports organizations, it's not much of a surprise that its in Texas. Austin is a pretty youthful city now and DH might bode well there.
|
Austin is not in the middle of nowhere. Austin has a lot going on and cities within 2 hours with populations in the 2+ million range. I get people are upset it isn't in Montreal but DH did the right thing here in my honest, biased opinion... I live in Houston lol..
For real though this should be really awesome, Austin is located in beautiful country and the hippie communty that lives there will be open and welcoming to this.

M O N T R E A L. The first Red Bull Battlegrounds was in Austin. The first MLG with SC2 was in Austin. Lone Star Clash 1 2 and 3 were in Austin. The Texas Starcraft Showdown was in Austin. TeSPA, what may be the most famous collegiate eSports organization, is headquartered in Austin. ACL, Austin Citiy Limits, a major music festival, has featured eSports and SXSW, a major arts festival featuring theatre, tech, and music, hosts eSports events every year. Plus many other eSports events.
Not to mention, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are very close to Austin and are 3 of the most populated cities in the country.
Sorry to crash your conceded party, but you're pretty wrong there buddy.

Very true, but Texas is becoming strongly popular internationally due to its central location. For example, Texas is basically the Japanese business capital of the US, with most US headquarters of Japanese countries being located in Texas. Its far from everything, but everything is far from everything. If you hold it in New England, then California gets screwed and vice versa.
The US is pretty giant, so why not hold it in the middle?
