Thought this deserves a TL thread

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1293697224/hell-its-aboot-time-basetradetv-live-event/description

"Hell It's Aboot Time" is a planned LIVE event in Toronto, Canada, for near the end of August 2015. BaseTradeTV will be funding the event, as well as a couple of partners TBA. If you aren't aware who we are, we're a community casting channel on Twitch and our list of accomplishments, as well as events we have funded in the past can be found here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/BaseTradeTV . The cost of the venue, accommodations, production, lighting and many other things have run costs high, and left us with very little to no money for a prize pool. The goal of this Kickstarter is to raise an impressive enough prize pool to make the event not only noteworthy, but attract some high profile players to come and compete!

Online qualifiers are planned

It's because $1,000 at that tier level will be not added to the prize pool directly, but instead used to fund an online qualifier for that particular region, thus inviting a high profile foreigner to come compete! We intend to host online qualifiers + have an open bracket at the event itself.

The goal is already reached, so thats good. Looking forward to see how they will handle their first Offline Event.

Date announced:

August 21-23

Despite how disappointed I am in their choice of city, Im very happy for them that they reached the goal so quickly. I have to imagine this'll lead to more events in the future, which is awesome!

tell ya.. if even Rifkin won't give Vancouver some SC2 love.. who will?
people in Vancouver shouldn't be too angry though... its only a 5 hour flight to the center of the universe.

regardless of that, this is a great development.. and well earned by BaseTradeTV.

Congrats to BaseTrade. If anyone deserves to be able to hold their own independent offline event, it's definitely them. I hope they get so far above their projected cost that they can apply for WCS points.

What I'll be interested in seeing is how their crowd reacts the first time a player picks Cactus Valley.

While I am all for more offline SC2 tournaments am I the only one who is pretty disappointed by the amount of work put INTO the actual kickstarter?
There is no information at all apart from stretch goals and rewards...

Honestly, I think they were expecting to maybe eke by the 5k goal and throw together a miniature HSC or something of the sort. They might (and will) easily triple their original goal, so I'm not surprised they're scrambling to plan this.

Great to see this take off like it did It was funded in 2 hours and could possibly reach 20k, there are still 2 months left.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Nope, even though it should be and its infuriating that Toronto gets everything.

he could have the finals in the big teepee they have there, it'd be great!

but seriously, I dont get why this isn't in Vancouver. Northwest hasn't had a tournament ever, we're starving for one and Rifkin was our best chance to get one.

They should just skip the pizza/ice cream party. If they know they want to carry on to another event they really should be more conservative with their money

My guess is Toronto is a bigger city and they've already done some successful tournaments there (NASL comes to mind with Stephano's epic victory dance).

This thread should be in the news section on the front page. With the big organizations cutting prize pools, air time and resources for SC2 -- tournaments like this one may be the future of our scene. TL should be supporting it.

There was a whole Remax segment about how Basetrade couldn't do an offline event because of their style. It offended me, since Rifkin and ZG are probably the best SC2 content providers of late.

I can't wait to see how they choose to put this together. It will have issues b/c its their first offline event, but I bet the issues will be minor and easily fixed for their second. Can't wait.

Indeed. I was going to complain, but I realize that Destiny I lacked front page coverage too. I think anyways. I searched the Featured and community news sections for aug/2014.

I would like to see it go up however. It is a community funded event after all.

We may not be thinking of the same conversation, but I believe the jist of that conversation was that Rif and ZG couldn't replace people like Tastetosis and Apollo at premier events like DH and IEM, but they would fit great at events like Homestory Cup. This event will have their own flavor, and will be awesome!

BasetradeTV? I don't think they really lend themselves to publicity stunts (it's also a kickstarter which makes it all the more unlikely)

It's a Kickstarter. There's not really a way to fake that. Basetrade has been grooming their fanbase for a while now and they got about 200 of them, me among them, to donate a total of 17k. That's it.
There have been Kickstarters that raised over $1.000.000 in a day, so it isn't even that special really.

As of two hours ago, there are 20 more pairs of slippers and 25 more card packs available for backers. They're also only $30 CAD away from shooting for the larger venue.

I've been following BaseTrade for a long time since their DreamHack community streams where they pulled like 200-300 viewers and got the chance to meet them at IEM Toronto. It's incredible witnessing how far they've come from an indie stream to one of the larger community figures to hosting another live event in Toronto (Sorry rest of Canada, we are just that good!). I really should get on supporting this Kickstarter and that's something I do rarely. If the event bombs, well it's their first try and nothing wrong with that. On the plus side if it goes well we get another incredible event and no one regrets it.

Hat tip to BaseTradeTV. This is sick! Events in Canada are awesome! (I still keep the NASL finals there as one of my favorite events).

They should just skip the pizza/ice cream party. If they know they want to carry on to another event they really should be more conservative with their money

and the event now has a date

https://twitter.com/BaseTradeTV/status/594263091598258177

it was a smart move by Rifkin to keep his event away from that Canada FanExpo thing...which occurs September 3 to 6.
