Well if he's really enjoying life it means that his health issues are either gone or under good treatment, so I'm happy for him.

So we don't get to see this legend playing Lotv ... he gave us some of the best series and finals so far. What others maybe dreamed of, he realised it. Impressive legacy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he hasn't been much or if at all in any tournaments or PL so it's not a surprising. He played some fantastic games back in WoL and it's time for him to rest after making a name for him. Best of luck mvp!

Altough we all knew this was the case, I find it sad that he dissapeared just like that, no official good bye or anything, he was the King of wings, probably the closest we've had to a Bonjwa, a certain legend, he deserved more.

I hope TL makes an article, and it better be the best damn article ever.

Confirmation of what we already really knew since he hasn't participated in anything in a long time, but still sad that the King of Wings has moved on. Of all the players to leave SC2, I will miss Mvp the most. Thanks for all the great games, congrats on all the championships, and GL wherever you go and whatever you do.

I refuse to believe that he will never ever come back (even if its just for 2 month )
lotv is the end of starcraft II, there will never be any more starcraft II after it, its like the last showoff you can pull.

I expect a lot of old star coming back for one last ride Mvp included.

Really depends what kind of game LOTV is. If it's anything like the transition from WOL to HOTS, the best players pretty much maintained their same skill level.

Looks like all great Kings go to die abroad. Nestea playing his final matches in wcs na and mvp in wcs eu. According to Aligulac, MVP's last recorded matches are the qualifiers for Kespa cup and Homestory cup in September and October of last year respectively. It is respectable that he didn't make a big deal of his retirement. Just moved on it seems.

NesTea's last official match was in the GSL Season 1 qualifiers in December. NesTea more active than Mvp? Can the King of Wings let this stand?

Too bad that we won't see more of the most entertaining and most dominant player in SC2 but it was probably a good decision of him if he ever wants to recover from his injury.

It's nice of him to keep on giving other SC2 players a chance to equal or better his achievements

Seriously though, I wish him all the best! Of course I am also a bit sad with the news but I have good memories of his victories and when they fade I will still have the vods :D

boooo, triple H comparison is insulting to Mvp

Is not Triple H comparison, is adequate song for the occasion. Obviously Mvp is 1000 times cooler than Paul Levesque.

you are right, i completely forgot that fact. Makes me think of taeja and how well he is coping with those issues. maybe he has a weaker case of carpal tunnel.

MVP has spine problems that make his hands go numb, as in paralysis numb, some days he can't even pick up his mouse. Thats a lot worse than carpal tunnel (which he probably has as well).

This is so Bad, holy cow.

Probably good for him but bad for me. Was the only player i was constantly cheering for, despite the results he was showing very lately. So talented and smart. ((((((((

This is good for closure since he hasn't been around. During the period he was healthy he was the best overall player by a large margin. And I remember that 3-2 vs Innovation in the first WCS semis as well, some great games and its a shame that he ran into physical problems to end his reign.

As he said in his interview yonks ago, he gets tired of playing games he is not enjoying, and health issues aside, I don't think he enjoyed HotS as much as Wings. If LotV is a hit and changes the game up in a beneficial way, I can potentially see him being involved.

Kind of expected
Last match I saw from him was from a qualifier (Kespa cup, I think, in 2014)
He played Stork and lost 2-1

He was kind of winning the engagements (microing well), but was floating like 1,5k-2k resources and far from being maxed (sucking balls at macroing), meaning he had no reinforcements in time, giving time to stork to recover and eventually win.

Was kind of pitiful to watch, though.

He was one of the closest SC2 had, if you put it at that. Especially with the 4 GSL wins and other tournaments. You can't knock how great of a player he was and how long he was on top for.

What, it's one thing to say that he wasn't 100% bonjwa, but to say that he wasn't even close? I am not super knowledgeable about early-mid bw, but these guys must've been some kind of demi gods to be put so high above Mvp?

I figured injuries and age made Mvp irrelevant even if he made a serious comeback. He hasn't done anything in so long; I'm not surprised, but I'll miss him nonetheless.

Closest thing SC2's had to a bonjwa.

Agreed. Boxer's may have lasted longer and been more dominant, but MVP played more games in a similar time span and stayed on top during that timespan.

He was one of the closest SC2 had, if you put it at that. Especially with the 4 GSL wins and other tournaments. You can't knock how great of a player he was and how long he was on top for.

Obviously he was the closest, but he still wasn't close to being a bonjwa.

Mvp's SC2 career > Boxer's BW career in my opinion.

LoL nice joke. MVP won 4 GSL (one of them an special event with half foreigner players). At that time there was like 14 GSL events per year. When Boxer was in his prime there were only 6 OSL in 3 years (boxer won 2 and came second in other 2). There where only 4 MSL (boxer won 1 and came third in other). Also he won 2 WCG finals at that time. Boxer went 17 consecutive n°1 in kespa rank.
So if you have to decide who was the more dominant player there is no doubt it was boxer and his carreer was longer and more prolific.

I wish he had come back to win the GSL 1 more time, the trophy with his name on it was already made and everything!

Mvp has already shown he's the GOAT, even if someone wins more tournaments than him I don't think there's any contest.

No I seriously looked at the numbers and circumstances of what they had to do, Mvp's career was better. Or as realistically close as you can get when comparing 2 different scenes in 2 different times in 2 different games.

Dominance doesn't mean Boxer was more impressive, considering he had less competition than Mvp did.

Especially in 2012. That's the important part IMO.

Boxer wasn't even the most dominating player in the BW era though for his time.
If you want something to compare with, 2010 Flash.

Regardless the term 'bonjwa' started with and died with Savior. Anything people try to apply the term to in the modern sense is moot and useless.

As most of the people here, I'm grateful for all the things he brought us, and kinda sad we never got a proper "goodbye" statement or ceremony from the one man who will always be the King of Wings.

It was an honnor to watch him dominate and help, with NesTea, Losira and others, make Incredible Miracle a team we will remember a long time.

Both MVP and IM lack a proper goodbye, but we should just be glad we were able to witness it when it happened, and hope them the best for the rest :D

Enjoy life, Mvp! We will never forget! Even though this news was to be expected, it's a shame that it goes by so unnoticed. Not the real, big, last goodbye for Mvp that he definitely deserved! We will miss you.

Which part of Bonjwahood are you referring to - the one which ended in Mvp falling to Code A or the one in which MMA regularly was beating him in their most important/prestigious clashes?

I'm not surprised but still sad either way. Mvp definitely put his mark on SC2 as one of the most accomplished players in some of the hardest leagues in the world. Bonjwa is not a term I would use for him because SC2 simply cannot support a bonjwa, but nevertheless, still a great who should never be forgotten.

Sad but not the least bit surprising, he's been pretty much inactive for quite some time and wasn't able to compete particularly well toward the end. Injuries are a bitch, and it sucks that it had to happen to the greatest champion we've had in SC2. I don't follow the game as much anymore, but I'll never forget how much I enjoyed those first few years and how Mvp consistently blew my mind. It's just not the same without him around.

I remember how Artosis said that MVP is not the most skilled player in SC2, but he has the will / character to come back and win tournaments after slumps / inactivity. MVP is the definition of a champion. Some one-time GSL champions just come and go, but MVP will remain timeless.

In wings at one point I think MVP was around the best mechanically early on and thus was named the Game Genie terran...he just had more stuff.

He also was well prepared...after Nada got dumped by MKP after really beating him but losing 2 base trades where MKP floated and had a much smaller army, MVP simply said...oh yeah...just leave 2 tanks at home with about 8 marines and lots of turrets. Well MKP base trade drops died horribly to this.

Then he just took good risks to cheese players when his star was fading due to lack of practice time. I mean he cheesed Naniwa twice and Squirtle at least twice in the same season. That was no longer the dominate MVP, he turned a new page and became the mind game champion.

But what most impressed me is that when he said he wasn't even able to practice at all and he runs into Innovation the new macro god of terran in the semis of WCS and loses 2-3 if I remember and was basically able to go blow for blow with him...that series could have gone either way...what if MVP had actually still been fully healthy?

Unfortunate. The finals vs squirtle might be one of the most legendary series I have ever seen. His genious mind will defintely be missed.

I'd say the most legendary series of all time was Mvp vs Life where Life won and solidified his position as the first (1st) greatest SC2 player of all time.

^Agreed that Life is the best SC player of all time. Better than MVP. And guess what MVP fanboys Life is just getting going muhahahahaa

I don't want to disrespect the thread here though folks, MVP was a great player of course and one of the best all time.

I like that this thread has been active for a little while now. Makes me happy that a thread about the GOAT can get at least 1/3 the attention of a Nanithread

It's really close right now, and I don't see why Life will stop winning titles for years to come. I'm sure he will surpass him in most people's eyes eventually. But right now I still think Mvp is the GOAT

I just don't think he would match up that well vs the current generation of progamers... regardless of hand injuries.
I don't particularly like you.

MVP, NesTea, Polt, MMA and MC are all (easily) ahead of Life for GOAT in respect of all SC2.

Though, Life's current form is pretty impressive.
the absence of evidence, is not the evidence of absence.
