I hate that GOM is copying the NSSL now. Makes it less of a distinct league and it just feels more volatile than having groups.

Apparently SuperNova is now on a team called ROOTS Gaming. And DRG, GuMiho, and Super are on a team called Invasion eSports.
Really looking forward to see if this new format is going to work out or not. Excited for the matches!

What a brutal format. Imagine losing 2-3 and knowing you're going to have to play in ANOTHER Code A qualifier just to get another shot at a bo5.
|
Mk didn't draw a Terran All the fanboys are saved
|
Whyyyyy, group play is so much more fun!
|
No groups sucks so hard -_-.
|
Some pretty sick matches here, Yoda / DRG, Yonghwa / Byul, Rain / Cure, ect. I think the winner of GuMiHo / Impact is going to be a darkhorse contender for the tile.
|
|
really don't like this format. I miss the old bracket + up and downs format
|
a lot of very good games, still old Map Pool
|
Why are they using Iron Fortress, the map nobody plays?
|
oh god, I just noticed the map pool. Aside from Iron Fortress (which is barely played and seems okay) I can't take these fucking things anymore xD
I'm even tired of Sejong. It's going the way of Daybreak, what with being a good map that's totally worn out its welcome.
|
MarineKing in a TvP, i like his chances.
gogo MarineKing fighting~
|
Iron Fortress as one of the five maps.
Why?

They feel bad for the mapper after the last season? xD

Curious to see how the my old zerg stars DRG and Symbol will perform.
Rain vs Cure really? I guess that's the moment of his career when Rain will have to face the great challenge that'll show us if he's able to come back or not...
Taeja will have wether an easy one if he's in physically ok and motivated, or a terrible one if he's not...

I think code A is supposed to have the same map pool than last code S, as code A is still a season one tournament afaik. As for the map itself, we've seen too few of it to judge it, it may not be as bad as everyone seems to think...
|
Seed gon knock soO back to Code B.

No Zest? Does this mean he's in Code B currently?

I really dislike this format Anybody know why it was changed?
Some of the matchups make me sad since I want both players to advance. But I guess that would also happen in groups, anyway.

i'm not sure why they copied it considering the amount of games for the old format and this format is roughly the same. assuming even distribution between 3-0/3-1/3-2, that's an average of 4 games x 3 matches = 12. assuming the same thing for groups (equal chance for 2-0/2-1) then it's 2.5 games x 5 matches = 12.5 games

GOM's website has SuNo's team listed as "ROOTS Gaming."
|
MarineKing vs Patience seems like it's going to be either really entertaining or really bad.
|
Not a good draw for Axiom Impact might be able to be Gumi on his best though
|
oh hay flash is playing on my birthday, hopefully he wins :>
|
Some good matches, although I'm not super hyped by the format.
Guys, the Gom youtube channel apparently uploaded all season 1 Ro32 Vods in the past 2 hours <.<
|
DongRaeGu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES. Please come back into Code S, where you belong.
|
I'm hoping to see some epic match ups and upsets! And for the "veteran" SC2 players to rise above the challenge and get back into Code S
|
Why would they copy the terrible system of 1 bo5? Rain vs. Cure is a very good example why this sucks; that match could have easily been a ro8 Code S match but now one of those high caliber players does not even qualify for Code S. Code A + Up&Downs was such an awesome format

Oh wow, Axiom got really screwed on there match ups I hope Ryung can at least take a map off Dark

If you scroll down where the matchups are shown, SuperNova has the ROOT gaming logo next to his name. It's just a typo in the group listing.

How are these matches picked?
|
Hahaha GOM ruining a whole season for 24 progamers by using the most terrible system possible for challenger, grats
|
sooo taeja is not retiring?
|
Especially considering the randomness in some mirrow matchups this format isn't ideal. Moar tension though...
|
sOs should play on 1st of April and execute the most awesome/confusing/absurd/trollish builds
|
Have a good feeling for Fantasy and Flash. Also, DRG should be able to win against YoDa.
|
Yoda vs DRG,YongHwa vs ByuL,Dark vs Ryung,Soulkey vs Creator looking good.

Tough draw for dream. Shame either Cure or Rain can't make it. Both of them are Code S level (maybe rain not so much as of recently).

I dislike this format a little.
That being said the Jin Air boys all have an excellent shot at being in Code S this season, they all got pretty nice matches. Pigbaby probably has the hardest cause Fantasy has been in good form recently.
Axiom boys on the other hand got tough matches. Impact has a good chance against Gumiho I reckon, but Heart and Ryung have to face sOs and Dark, those aren't easy opponents at all. Patience has a good chance of getting Code S, MarineKing has been very underwhelming recently and Patience has been on a resurgence :D
|
Anticipated matches: Taeja vs Sorry Yonghwa vs Byul Dream vs Supernova Rain vs Cure Curious vs Bravo
A real bummer with Cure vs Rain. Both players are obviously worthy of Code S. I personally prefer group format for Code A, and am a bit upset they went with the single elimination Bo5.
|
Disappointed in the mappool, excited about soO going to the finals again!
|
Anyone know if these matches are played online or offline? And if offline, at what venue? I'll be in Seoul in that period of time, and it would be awesome to catch a match or two!
|
I dislike the challenger format, but i guess this gives a global format thingy where both WCS and GSL have the same format. Cheering for the Samsung and Axiom boys. And also DRG!!!
|
Rain vs Cure on this format nooooooooooo
|
DongRaeGu noooooooooo

Really weak format. I can't imagine the meeting where someone suggested it and people in majority agreed to use it? Bizare.

Group stage is funky anyway since you can have a lot of rematches. This is more fairer and quicker.

The previous format plays at least 120 and up to 180 maps. Pretty clear difference in total.

I hope Ryung make it trough! He is in my opinion a sort of household name within GSL Terrans. So sad he haven't been in it in a while!

Heart vs. sOs: That's a great first opponent for Heart.
Dark vs. Ryung: I'd say 50-50, depending on whatever Ryung does. I fear he's still a little too inconsistent.
GuMiho vs. Impact: Wait, is this a game for Code S or another Olimoleague semifinals playoff?

That's what StarDust wanted to do for season 2 IIRC. Qualify through NA challenger for WCS Premier. Getting the visa is going to be 100 times harder than reaching Premier I think the issue was something like he wouldn't get it in time for season 1 but for sure for season 2 so he sat out one season. Or something like that. Yeah, something like that. But, given that he hasn't been playing in a while now, I worry about his form. It's a huge gamble if he ends up not qualifying, or drops out in Challenger If you're talking about StarDust I wouldn't worry, he's too good not to qualify. JaeDong, however, scares me as well, since the last broadcasted games we have of him are a 4-1 loss to puCK. He totally beat Believe 2-0 in Prime League though, 2 weeks ago. The Puck loss was in February.
Regarding StarDust, I checked his twitter, he said that his visa is almost done and he's very excited, and apparently he streamed to get to Master league (so it was either not the account he plays the most with or he actually hasn't played much).

Would rather see groups but I also don't mind Bo5s. Lots of interesting preparation opportunities for these people.

Should be a good chance for up and coming players to get a more simple shot at code A. They can prepare for 1 opponent and their's can do the same which will mean them putting all their efforts and practice toward that instead of more than 1 opponent. I think this will bring more interesting games. GL Sorry!

Has Marineking been banned competitive play yet for intentionally throwing the game against Byul? If nothing comes of this it will be disgusting.

Dates are in the op (beginning April 1st with group A).
I can't imagine it not being streamed since it's only 3 bo5s a day.

Should be a brutal 3-0 for DRG.
Yoda's TvZ looks very weak lately.

He will be if he beats Super in a BO5. He'll be in Code B if he doesn't.

Crush that noob soO and show him how a real champion wins games!!!!

Flash vs Super is disappointing tho. Not that I think Super is the worst opponent coming down from Code S Flash could've gotten. But TvP is like all he plays right now, I'd like to see him play something else again to show his form in other MUs.

With how Taeja is playing recently I see him losing to Sorry

Yoda, soO, Taeja, Bbyong, Byul, Trap, sOs, Symbol, Myungsik, Dear, Bomber, San, Dream, Maru, Cure, Dark, Gumiho, Flash, Fantasy, Terminator, Soulkey, Patience, Bravo, MC to advance. Biggest heartbreakers (Code S caliber that got tough matchups) Yonghwa, Rain, Super
