It could end up being a rookie draft for Pro-league. Who knows? It's exciting that KeSPA is investing in finding up-and-coming Kr players

Rookie appears to mean no appearances in WCS, GSL, NSSL, SPL, or GSTL in the last 2 years. Though translation is rough at best

I imagine it's the sc2 equivalent of Courage tournaments. Really cool. Any word on wether it'll be streamed/casted?

That is pretty sick! I'd imagine it wont be streamed though if its anything like the Courage tournaments, doubt they would want to put more pressure on the rookies. Maybe they could cast them from replays though.. Casted or not, this is awesome!

I wonder if that means we'll see some of the old-school players in this. Like oGs TOP has been streaming lately and I don't think he's participated in anything of note. Maybe we'll see InCa cheese the hell out of some people. But for such a low prize I doubt many would put any time if they don't actively play and want to continue a progamer career.

So cool, hopefully this ends up being akin to Courage tourneys or a way to establish a rookie draft for Kespa teams. SC2KR still growing!

I remember seeing some kind of Amateur KeSPA Clan League last year as well.

Still good news though, also if it gains popularity here there might be an english stream some day I hope.
I wasn't sure if it is super relevant, which is why I only posted it on Reddit and not on TL, I'll do both next time I guess. Luckily these press announcements are so easy that even my bad korean skills are enough to read them.

I think Top (and maybe couple other old faces who are ocasionally streaming) were all participating in WCS last 2 years, as in they failed to qualify but were signed up for qualifiers.

Great to see new Korean players soon! even though the prize money is a bit weak for a whole month, if I calculated correctly...
But with the LotV beta coming out, there will be a lot more motivation to start off with sc2 again

Yeah, I would have preferred the league be open to players that meet criteria B and C but have been on Proleague rosters (though never fielded). Right now, this hurts those few players (Miso comes to mind, although he's no longer on KT) that are good enough to make the B-team on a KeSPA team but can't catch a break in individual leagues.

I'm really glad they did this. Giving incentive for rookies and some financial benefit is great for the scene because a common criticism is how difficult it is for new pros to get into the bigger leagues, so an official KeSPA rookie league helps a lot with transitioning and scouting.

I think it's a good opportunity to bring out talent that may be lurking in the shadows. Lots of people play these games but never compete because of whatever reasons.... if this produces a few good players it'll be great.

I was going to say that TANGTANG has got this, but he is in Prime's roster for SPL so he can't participate

It's a perfect opportunity for ladder heroes that haven't been noticed by the KeSPA teams yet to put their name out there.
Considering everyone is a fucking barcode these days, it's something that was needed.

Anyway, don't expect names you'd recognize get second opportunities here - it's a Rookie League, not a 'recycle' league. Teams are well aware of current non-contracted players that have been around in the scene and there's a reason why they aren't on a team (hint: they are too old and aren't good enough).

great idea, doesn't do anything for lower players that are ineligible that get $nothing because of ridiculous major tournament payout structures

I'm not sure, but that's how it works in the NBA, right? The worst team gets to pick first, right?

That'd be fun to play in but I'm guessing it's probably for KR only.

Kinda sucks that State can't play in it since he was on prime briefly.

Sounds cool, though a prize pool of £120 per month seems very low.

time for virus to come out of retirement to play in this.

switching to actual thoughts seems okay. not sure how excited I am since the rules will probably make it full of people I've never heard of but the games should be interesting at least. also I'm curious as to if any old school players play

Oh well

Yeah, I would have preferred the league be open to players that meet criteria B and C but have been on Proleague rosters (though never fielded). Right now, this hurts those few players (Miso comes to mind, although he's no longer on KT) that are good enough to make the B-team on a KeSPA team but can't catch a break in individual leagues.

Indeed. I´d love to see several B-teamers making a name for themself.
The tournament itself is a good thing though. maybe it is rebroadcasted from replays by someone, taketv ?

Kind of reminds me of the original Code A tournament back in the day. A full-fledged league with a trophy at the end, that doesn't command nearly as much respect as a Code S trophy.

Great to see undaed gaem in Korea!

Top level cynicism right there...

But I can top it:

What better way to indoctrinate players into the Kespa Jail, get them when they are fresh and sculpt their mentalities to align with Kespa ideologies and profit margins...

Let's try not to go crazy with the matchfixing accusations, it's very likely a small number of players involved(on not-original kespa teams mostly).

This is seriously awesome news for Korea. Shows that Kespa believes that investing in the scene with pay back well.

So is it a banshee? A reaper? A zombie? A skeleton? These necromancers in Korea have great power!

Good to see this, I really love anything that brings in fresh blood(so the necromancers have the power, you know )
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.
