At first I read this as "Starbucks parts with Mousesports," I didn't know they were an eSports sponsor!

Starbuck was pretty good, sad to see him leave for CS:GO =/

First time reading the title I thought it said "Starbucks party ways"... in my mind I was like... "a team had Starbucks as sponsorship?"

then i read it again... tbh 2nd time reading it was kinda disappointing in a way :\

All this EU talent

Hope he stays in, he is a consistent Challenger/RO32 Premier contender, so it's decent money.

It's really hard for players who are at the upper skill level in Europe atm..

He barely didn't make it into WCS, everything else to play in either has 2 qualifier slots or is mostly invites.. there don't seem to be any open tournaments to play in europe anymore.

IEM katowice is the only IEM event in Europe and likely won't have an OB.
The Gfinity events in UK are likely going to be 90%+ invites.
Dreamhack isn't starting untill May.

Best of luck with the future Starbuck

I don't understand why so many tournaments are invites. Sure, we want to see players we like but I'd rather see someone who deserves a spot because they play well not just some dude who has a big following on TL.

The logic behind it is that esports in the end is an entertainment business. Exposure is money and those that create exposure thus will be a company's number one goal to put into their tournament. They don't care about skill or people deserving a spot. It's about who brings more views and thus more money. That's the logic behind invites, from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense

Popular players = hype.
Hype = viewers.
Viewers = money.
I mean look at BaseTradeTV's TSN which is running right now. As I'm writing this there are almost 4K viewers. Well, I'm pretty sure that if you threw a Naniwa or a Stephano, or even a Scarlett in there you'd have at least double the viewership. And when talking about big offline events with TL previews and all the shit, this factor could only increase.
It is indeed very sad and I wish it wasn't like that, but not that hard to understand really. Especially considering a lot of tournament organizers in the SC2 scene don't have enough money to afford a tournament being a viewership/hype failure.

The flaw in the logic, however, it's that it doesn't help the scene's growth nor it stabilize it.
Given the age of players, people come and go.

But instead of rewarding the new ones (or better, the ones who train harder) they just go for popularity.

Iirc a couple of years ago I wrote my only thread here about meritocracy, but between the whole tournament organizers, the only one to share my view on this was Carmac. Not a surprise that 99% of his tourneys tend to give fewer amounts of money but almost to everyone.

Other than that, rather than sustaining the scene, it weakens it on the long run.
Your Opinion has been counted. Only 3 more Opinions needed for a reddit thread.

Personally, I'd feel more hyped seeing a no-name make his way through the bracket,especially because his skill was already verified coming through a qualifier. Seeing the same invites at tournaments can get stale too.

Good luck in CS GO.
