TCM-Gaming would like to announce the official release of both Byeong Hyun 'YoDa' Choi and Hyun Woo 'First' Kang from the TCM StarCraft 2 division.

During their four months with TCM-Gaming Byeong Hyun 'YoDa' CHoi finished as the Runner-Up of the 2014 European WCS Season 3 and finished 4th at the MSI Beat IT 2014. Hyun Woo 'First' Kang finished in 5th place as the 2014 DreamHack Open: Winter tournament. In addition to that both of the players walked out victorious from a series of online tournaments including the GFINITY, ESL and ZOTAC cups.

Jim Maguire - Managing Director of TCM-Gaming

"Due to the recent changes imposed by Blizzard both Yoda and First have been forced to return to their native country to continue their gaming carriers. They have both represented TCM at the highest level in Europe and we wish them well in their futures in Korea. Our involvement in the StarCraft scene has also had to change from a European to a more global perspective and we look forward to announcing our continued support of StarCraft very soon."

Was really surprised to read this when I saw it in the sidebar, but the reason makes much sense. It was a pretty good set of months for both First & Yoda, and I hope both the team and the players can build on this success.

"couriers" should be *careers. Well, somewhat predictable news – good luck to both YoDa and First as well as TCM though!

Err I guess that was going to happen. Maybe one of them will go to DP? Because I don't really see PL teams getting new players now that PL is about to begin.
It's pretty cool to see that they still want to invest in SC2 though

Well since they can't play WCS premiere it makes sense. I'm sure they enjoyed their 4 months with TCM and it's good to know TCM stil plans to do starcraft in the future. Good luck to all of them!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Unfortunate they couldn't get the same deal that ForGG did. Wonder why?

Because YoDa and First were playing GSL in 2013 whereas ForGG was in Europe in 2012

Not very unssuspectet. TCM doesnt have any roots or connections to kor, where they gonna play now ( and maybe have a harder time then in Europe ).
I wonder if TCM will really support Starcraft from now on, because if you change it to a more "global perspective", you dont have to kick out koreans who will likely take planes to every event they get invited.

ForGG lived in Europe for way longer. From what I read, ForGG could have got a 'proper' visa if he took some French lessons but he decided not to because he wanted to live in Germany with his girlfriend instead.

Same reason MC/Hyun/Jaedong/all the Koreans who competed in WCS EU/AM but were based in Korea couldn't. ForGG is the Polt of EU, minus the visa.

Since they seem to be focused on the foreign scene, presumably they'll sign a foreigner who has a chance to do well in WCS next year? Though there's not a lot of high level teamless foreigners out there... best two are probably Happy and Neeb? And there's also viOLet who is Korean but allowed to play in WCS, maybe he's the best candidate.

And to be clear on the "ForGG rule" for competing in WCS: you have to have already been living outside of Korea as of *January 1, 2013*. The only players anyone's thought of that this might apply to is ForGG himself and possibly StarDust (and Polt and viOLet who don't need it because they have legal U.S. residency.

Blizz's choice in this, is just going to widen the gap between the skill of pro-players in EU/NA and KR.

That's one of the biggest issues.

snute, Bunny, VortiX and the othere good foreigner are that strong 'cause they have koreans in their servers.

Dividing Korean and foreigner scenes the gap will be bigger and bigger.

So if YoDa and First wont be able to play for SPL, why not keep them for their new "global perspective" as well? While not the best players in the world, I could see either of them do quite well in Korea and weekend tournaments.

Best of luck to them both, hopefully they find a new team soon enough!

Well I imagine they'd take Soulkey over First or YoDa

but yeah that's still weird

Assuming TCM was willing to maintain their contracts if they stayed in Europe for 2015 and considering how hard competition is in Korea, wouldn't be worth to move to Europe and compete in DHs, IEM, Gfinity, etc and forfeit WCS (perhaps they could play it in 2016)?

anyway ... "Our involvement in the StarCraft scene has also had to change from a European to a more global perspective and we look forward to announcing our continued support of StarCraft very soon." at least this is good news.

As long as no Team is able to pay the players enough for a worker visa, yes, these are the players left in EU.

I haven't seen any confirmation of that but I haven't seen anything indicating that he's going back to Korea either, so I'm assuming he's staying.

Sad, but not super bad news seeing as it's just format rules etc. Glad to see TCM still be interested in the scene
Hope YoDa and First get picked up fast by a Korean team for PL!
